MASTER OF ARCHITECTURE STUDY PROGRAMME

UBFA Master of Architecture is a 2 years (120 ECTS) full-time programme, accredited by the National Accrediting Board and dedicated to preparing graduate students for careers in architecture.

Upon completion of the program, students receive the title of Master of Architecture, and studies are validated for RIBA Part 2 Status.

The study is realized within the following educationalscientific, ie educational-artistic fields:

- Technical and technological sciences; - Art;

- Social sciences and humanities.

MASTER OF ARCHITECTURE STUDY PROGRAMME

The position of our school as the largest in the region requires profiling students through specific master Modules in the fields of Architecture, Urbanism, Architectural Technology, and Architectural Engineering.

MA Studies are organized and delivered through ‘study units’ and ‘modules’, which students may choose from so as to independently create their educational profiles, while at the same time gain broad knowledge from all relevant fields .

MODULES offered:

• Architecture (A) – 112 students,

• Urbanism (U) – 16 students,

• Architectural Technology (AT) - 32 students

• Architectural Engineering (SE) – 16 students.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Understanding:

• the profession role that an architect plays in society, especially in the preparation of conceptual solutions that take social factors into account;

• responsibilities towards human, social, cultural, urban, architectural and ecological values and architectural heritage;

• understanding the relationship between people and built environment, as well as understanding the need for built structure to adapt to human needs and measures;

• building construction, contractor and engineering problems related to design process;

• strategies for the sustainable development of the environment, as well as the purpose of achieving ecologically sustainable design and protection, renewal and improvement of the environment.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Knowledge of :

• methods and techniques of research, preparation of project tasks for an architectural project and evaluation of the results;

• appropriate knowledge of the history and theories of architecture, as well as related arts, technologies and humanities;

• application of theoretical concepts in the design process through a reflective and critical approach;

• physical problems and technologies, as well as the function of buildings in order to ensure conditions for internal comfort and protection from climatic influences;

• urban design, planning and skills important for the realization of the planning process;

• fine arts as an influence on the quality of architectural and urban planning, as well as the ability of their creative application;

• regulatory requirements related to the planning, design and construction of facilities as well as activities, organizations, regulations and procedures related to the integration of plans into the overall planning system and the architectural project implementation process;

• project financing, project management and project cost control.

Skills:

LEARNING OUTCOMES

• creation of architectural projects that meet aesthetic and technical requirements, of different scope, complexity and typology in diverse contexts, using multiple media of expression;

• skill which enable the creation of solutions that meet user requirements within certain financial limitations and regulations;

• conceptual and critical approach to architectural design according to user needs, which integrates social, economic, aesthetic and technical aspects.

OTHER RELEVANT ISSUES

• The faculty has capacities to conduct hybrid teaching in the system of combined formats depending on the epidemiological situation, live or online (Temas & Moodle platform)

• Number of extracurricular activities were realised within the new Research Center (CID) in cooperation with other schools and professional and public institutions. Example: workshop „Covid 19 Challenges: Architecture of Pandemic“, organized online in April 2020 during the quarantine period

• Significant progress in dissemination and cooperation with the broader public and professional community .

• A new vice‐dean position for quality affirmation and cooperation with public sector

• „AF Files publication“ best final projects of students (from 2018/2019)

• Choice of best student final diploma works for the international competitions and awards nominated by external evaluators.

• Improvment in the field of international collaboration both through scientific projects and by increasing the mobilities. Example: Erasmus + HERSUS (UBFA lead institution)
