30th Annual Cool Desert Nights

Festivities will be held Friday, June 21st, and Saturday, June 22nd, in Uptown Plaza. They will start with the traditional cruise and concert/street dance in John Dam Plaza. On Saturday, the Kiwanis will begin the morning with their pancake breakfast, leading into the Show n’ Shine all day. Tumbleweed Music Festival* The 26th annual Tumbleweed Music Festival begins Friday evening with a free concert. Saturday and Sunday will be filled with free acoustic music. We offer everything from swim lessons to open swim, lap swim, and pool parties. The facility has a 1,100 square-foot wading pool (6 inches to 30 inches deep), as well as a 4,625 square-foot, 25yard pool (3.5 feet to 13 feet deep). Children under age 8 must be accompanied by an adult.

PARENT & CHILD

WHICH CLASS SHOULD I REGISTER MY CHILD FOR? This class will focus on ways to enjoy water with your child. This class emphasizes parental teaching methods for water adjustment and basic skills. An adult must be in the water with the child throughout class. This class is designed to make your child more comfortable and enjoy being in & around the water.

LEVEL 1

Child will blow bubbles but is not comfortable submerging entire face in water, needs support with all swimming abilities, and is not very comfortable in the water. Child can only swim a few kicks before requiring assistance.

LEVEL 2

Child is comfortable putting face in water, can glide, kick, etc., for five or more feet, and lifts head up to breathe. Child can float on the front & back unsupported and is ready to learn elementary backstroke.

LEVEL 3

Child can swim freestyle and elementary backstroke without support for fifteen feet or more and can swim unassisted in deep end. Child may be swimming for a swim team with the youngest group. Ready to learn other strokes and is ready to breathe to the side while swimming.

LEVEL 4

Child can swim fairly comfortably but needs stroke adjustments/work on endurance. Child is extremely comfortable with freestyle, backstroke, and may need some help with breaststroke and butterfly.

LEVEL 5

Child can swim all basic strokes accurately with correct breathing pattern and can swim the length of the pool comfortably without problem. The child may still need some stroke adjustments for the butterfly.

LEVEL 6

Child is very comfortable in the water. Can swim all strokes two or more laps in a row. Swims on the swim team at a high level. Instructional swimming will be to improve endurance and strengthen and tone muscles.

New Attitude Line Dancing Instructor: Jo Miller Are you ready to improve your basic line dancing skills? In this class, students will continue to learn the basics and gain confidence to get out on the dance floor and have fun! The first half of class caters to beginners, while the latter half concentrates on enhancing line dancing skills. Line dancing not only tones muscles but also boosts memory and concentration.

Waltz

Instructors: Fred Fagan & Nancy Smith Ages 16+. The waltz was first danced in the royal courts of Europe during the Renaissance. Today it is danced all over the world. The waltz is easy to learn with a simple 1-2-3 count. In this class, you will learn several patterns that will let you glide all around the dance floor with your dance partner. You will be able to dance the waltz for weddings and many other occasions to music such as The Beautiful Tennessee Waltz. This class is for Newcomers to Waltz.

Instructors: Fred Fagan & Nancy Smith Ages 16+. Rumba, originating from Africa, is the dance of love and passion. It's an expressive and sensual dance highlighting the emotional and physical connection between partners. Developed in the late 19th century in Havana, Cuba, it became popular in working-class neighborhoods. Rumba is a spot dance, often performed in a small area on the dance floor. This class focuses on teaching basic patterns and Cuban motion, along with other fun patterns, catering to newcomers to Rumba.

Danced to the solid 4 count music with a strong beat, dancers quickly learn the basic step and move on to learn Opening Up with the Lady, the Lady's Underarm Turn, the Gentleman’s Underarm Pass, the Gentleman’s Behind the Back Pass, and other fun patterns. In this class you will learn several patterns that let you swing to music such as the Beach Boys and the Village People (YMCA). This class is for Newcomers to 4 Count Swing dancing.

Night Club Two Step, developed by Buddy Schwimmer in the 1960s, is a popular partner dance characterized by its mid-tempo ballad rhythm in 4/4 time with a quick-quick-slow beat. It features the distinctive Side-Cross-Side movement, adapted from the "Surfer Stomp" of the era. In our NC2S class, newcomers will learn basic steps, the SideCross-Side, Flip-Flops, Lady’s Underarm Turn, and more. Get ready to groove to tunes like "The Lady in Red" by Chris De Burgh!

Richland Fire Department will provide instruction in a 45-minute session on simple but effective CPR and AED techniques that people can use to help save lives. Ninety percent of cardiac arrest victims die before reaching a hospital or medical facility.

Effective CPR provided in the first minutes can increase survival by two to three times. Youths ages 8–15 must be accompanied by a registered adult.

Columbia Point Golf Course is an upscale, daily-fee facility built and owned by the City of Richland.

It is a challenging course for all levels of golfers and is located on the eastern side of the Cascade Mountains adjacent to the Columbia River. It boasts a variety of tee boxes and measures 6,571 yards from the Championship tees.

This James J. Engh design features mounded, rolling fairways and large, undulating greens. The parkland-style course opened in 1997. Columbia Point has a fully stocked golf shop, cafe, covered patio, and driving range complete with extra amenities, including men's and ladies' lockers available for daily use. Activities or Events by Private Organizations *This activity is offered and organized by a private organization. The City is not responsible for facilitating or staffing this activity, nor does it collect or administer participation fees.

Class Refund Policy The City reserves the right to cancel, reschedule, relocate, or combine activities as needed. If Parks and Recreation cancels an activity, participants will be notified, and a full refund will automatically be issued. A participant-initiated refund for classes and activities must be requested at least three (3) business days before the start date and will not be issued for any value less than $5. Participant-initiated refunds will be assessed a $5 processing fee per class/activity for each person involved. Refunds take approximately 14 days to process. Refunds for VISA and MasterCard transactions will be credited to the same card used in the original transaction.

Gender Equity Statement The City of Richland complies with Washington’s Fair Play in Community Sports Act (Chapter 467, 2009 Laws, effective July 26, 2009), which prohibits discrimination against any person on the basis of sex in the operation, conduct, or administration of community athletics programs for youth or adults. Outdoor Facility The city cannot predict the weather or other environmental conditions such as insects, wildlife, uneven terrain, wet grass and puddles, dirt, dust, noise from other park users, or other unpredictable, unknown, or natural factors that occur in a public park. The city will use its best effort to provide the facility at an acceptable level of service consistent with that provided to all park users.

Outdoor Cancellation Policy All event cancellations must be made in writing.

Cancellations made 14+ days before the event date receive a full refund of the agreed hourly rental fee.

Cancellations made 7–13 days before the event date receive 50% of the agreed hourly rental fee. Cancellations made 0-6 days before the event date receive no refund of the agreed hourly rental fees. Damage deposit refunded in full if canceled before the event. The administration fee is non-refundable (admin fee only pertains to Special Event Agreements).

Participants shall not be refused services due to their gender identity or gender expression. Sports Concussions and Head Injuries A concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury—or TBI— caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or by a hit to the body that causes the head and brain to move rapidly back and forth. This sudden movement can cause the brain to bounce around or twist in the skull, creating chemical changes in the brain and sometimes stretching and damaging brain cells. Medical providers may describe a concussion as a “mild” brain injury because concussions are usually not life-threatening. Even so, the effects of a concussion can be serious. People living within Richland’s city limits support the City’s parks and recreation services through taxes. People residing outside the city limits are welcomed and encouraged to enjoy City-sponsored events and programs at a non-resident rate.

NOTICE UNDER THE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT

In accordance with the requirements of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (“ADA”), the City of Richland will not discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities on the basis of disability in its services, programs, or activities.

Employment: The City of Richland does not discriminate on the basis of disability in its hiring or employment practices and complies with all regulations promulgated by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission under Title I of the ADA. Effective Communication: The City of Richland will generally, upon request, provide appropriate aids and services leading to effective communication for qualified persons with disabilities so they can participate equally in the City’s programs, services, and activities, including qualified sign language interpreters, documents in Braille, and other ways of making information and communications accessible to people who have speech, hearing, or vision impairments.

Modifications to Policies and Procedures: The City of Richland will make all reasonable modifications to policies and programs to ensure that people with disabilities have an equal opportunity to enjoy all of its programs, services, and activities. For example, individuals with service animals are welcomed in City offices, even where pets are generally prohibited.

The City Attorney’s Office has been designated to ensure the coordination of the City’s compliance with the ADA, including investigation of any complaint alleging title II discrimination. The City of Richland has a grievance procedure providing for prompt and equitable resolution of complaints alleging discrimination on the basis of disability in violation of the U.S. Department of Justice regulations implementing Title II of the ADA. This procedure has been developed to comply with 28 CFR 35.107(b) and can found in Chapter 2.11 RMC.
