MANAGER’S MESSAGE Happy New Year! This Activity Guide is the first guide we’ve compiled since before the pandemic and we are so excited to share it with you! The City of Richland is fortunate to have one of the best park systems and municipal libraries in the Northwest for our citizens to enjoy, and this is especially important as we continue to be mindful of the COVID-19 pandemic. We have opened facilities and programs safely and are once again offering many ways for our community to participate in recreational programming at the Community Center, Library, and in the field. The City’s programs are available in many forms to suit diverse interests. As you peruse the pages take note of some new recreation programs (e.g. 8-Week Introduction to Yoga) as well as some fan-favorite fitness classes (e.g. Zumba with TaiFei! Steppin’ Out with Jo! and Salsa and Bachata with Dana & Christian!) which have evolved throughout the past two years from in-person → solely virtual → their current offering of “hybrid” (Zoom WITH in-person options). As new programs are added, we hope to grow the Zoom and hybrid offerings to allow folks to Recreate with Richland from anywhere! The Richland Public Library will be adding more story time hours for toddlers and pre-school age children, and we are excited to anticipate the re-opening of Novel Café located in the Library lobby sometime in the early part of 2022! With the New Year, the Richland Community Center and Richland Public Library has returned to regular [prepandemic] operating hours! Starting Monday, January 3rd, operating hours for each facility are: Richland Public Library | 509-942-7454 Monday – Thursday 10am – 9pm Friday 10am – 6pm Saturday 10am – 5pm Sunday 12 – 5pm

Richland Community Center | 509-942-7529 Monday – Friday 8am – 9pm Saturday 9am – 8pm Sunday 12 – 4pm

Richland Public Library Curbside Pickup Monday-Thursday 12 – 6pm Fridays 12 – 5pm The Library and Recreation teams have plenty of thoughtful and fun programming to share with our community this season. Keep an eye on our websites and social media as new programs and events pop-up. Let us re-engage this year. Our Parks, Community Center, and Library are ready for your return, whether that be in-person or virtually. We look forward to seeing you. Julie Jackson Recreation Manager

Besides providing events for our members and athletes in the region, we hope to attract new athletes to the club that can benefit from the healthful, positive lifestyle gained through running and multi-sport. Over the years, one primary focus has been fitness for the children in our area and the battle against childhood obesity. We have helped raise thousands of dollars for local elementary school physical education programs through our Leprechaun Dash fun run in March. Our running club not only gives back to the running community, but we also give back to the community at large.

TRI-CITY DOG PARK SOCIETY https://www.tricitydogparks.org/ The Tri-City Dog Park Society was founded to promote, establish, and maintain off-leash dog parks in our community. Since 2005, we have raised community awareness of dog parks, held demonstration dog parks, and raised funds to help open the first off-leash dog park in the Tri-Cities area. We also worked with the City of Richland Parks and Public Facilities to open a temporary dog park at Badger Mountain Community Park while planning continued for a permanent dog park. In October 2011, our efforts were rewarded with the opening of Phase I of Paws-Abilities Place at Badger Mountain Community Park. In 2017, the park expanded to encompass the adjacent land and complete Phase II of the 5-acre park that can be seen today. The Tri-City Dog Park Society continues its efforts to maintain and enhance Paws-Abilities Place and has hopes to extend into the surrounding cities in the coming years.
