NEW! SNAG®

SNAG® stands for “Starting New at Golf”. It is a FUN game that is EASY to learn and can be played ANYWHERE. SNAG® contains all the elements of golf but in a modified form.

Falling somewhere between miniature golf and regulation golf, SNAG® allows for full shots, pitching, chipping, and putting. This is a great program for first time golfers. The game has its own simplified rules and terminology, SNAGology as we call it, that adds fun to the learning and playing experience.

Youth Sports NFL Flag Football

NFL YOUTH FLAG FOOTBALL SPRING LEAGUE

This is an 8-week, 5vs5 league, with teams of up to 10 players. Jersey and flag belts will be provided. Games will be played on Saturdays at Utica and/or Urbana District Parks. Registration deadline is Monday, March 19th. Volunteer coaches needed. Volunteer coaches meeting will be held on Thursday, March 29th at 6pm at Utica Park. Game times to be announced. Practices will be held according to the schedule below. All participants must wear a mouthpiece. All requests must be made at time of registration and will only be accepted at time of registration. Not all requests are granted. If you sign up under Head Coach’s child you will be expected to coach a team.

Ages: 5-14 years Cost: $60 per participant.

Youth Sports Gymnastics

Multi-Sports

This exciting program offers gymnastics for beginners to intermediate athletes. Students will work on skills using the bars, beam, floor, and spring board. Participants are grouped by age and skill level. Parents may only observe during the 1st, 4th, and final class sessions due to space limitations.

Youth Sports Soccer

FREDERICK COUNTY WINTER INDOOR SOCCER LEAGUE

While its cold outside, practice your skills indoors. Boys and girls can have fun playing co-ed recreational soccer indoors while learning basic skills. The Division of Parks and Recreation will form teams. Sneakers and shin guards are required to participate.

If you love tennis, you’ll love it even more as a team. All matches will be played at the Urbana Community Park Tennis Courts on Saturdays between the hours of 9am and 6pm. Teams will practice on Saturdays before their match. Registration deadline is Thursday, April 19th. Team captains are needed for each team. Teams consist of at least 6 children and at least 3 boys and 3 girls. Participants should provide their own racquets. Tennis balls will be provided.

QUICKSTART TENNIS

Quickstart tennis works by getting kids into the game immediately. Within the first hour of stepping onto the court, they are actually playing, rallying and moving around and having fun! We scale the courts down to their size, which gives the kids the confidence and ability to cover the entire court. We use junior size racquets that fit smaller hands and makes it easier to control. Quickstart tennis enables kids to have a fun experience early on in the learning process. They build confidence and become more enthusiastic about playing.

This program is for those with prior volleyball experience who want to continue learning the game of volleyball. This class builds on basic skills and introduces more advanced offensive and defensive techniques into actual game play. The class is designed for people who have already attended other volleyball camps/clinics, club ball, leagues or high school and want to continue learning the game. Youth NEW! CLAY CREATIONS FOR OLDER STUDENTS

This class will explore clay tools and techniques. Artists will be introduced to clay tools and will create pinch pots, coil bowls, and other clay projects. Advanced topics such as slab technique and scoring will be explored.

BELLY DANCING - BEGINNER

Learn the foundations of Belly Dancing in this class. We train students to maintain a healthy dance posture. Our focus is on developing flexibility and learning how to move the parts of the body which are often ignored in day-to-day living. Classes include a warmup; basic posture, hip work such as lifts and drops, figure 8’s, circles, pushes and snaps, arm movements, shimmies, turns and traveling steps, and a cool down. Music and rhythms used in belly dance will be introduced.

Visit the “Big Apple” your way! Shop, sightsee, dine, or see a show. You decide how you want to spend the day in one of the greatest cities in the world. The bus will drop you off near Macy’s, and then you’re on your own. Bus leaves NYC at 6 pm. Cost includes transportation and tourist information. Through hands on investigations campers will have the opportunity to learn about many of the local wildlife species found at Catoctin Creek and Fountain Rock Parks. Nature Escapes Camp features nature games, walks, wildlife viewing, storytelling, and crafts.

AIKIDO DEMONSTRATION- FREE

Aikido is one of the most modern forms of the Japanese martial arts. It has been called a “gentle” martial art because it uses strictly defensive techniques of evasion, redirection, and immobilization to avoid and control the attacker. Aikido focuses on minimum effort/ maximum effect, which makes it well suited for all people regardless of age, size or gender. This demonstration is a wonderful way to learn some basic, effective self-defense, and discover more about Aikido!

Martial Arts FENCING - INTRODUCTION

Fencing is a fast paced, exciting sport featured in every Olympic Games since 1896.

It also has a long history of good sportsmanship and etiquette. In this program students will learn basic footwork and skills with the saber. The course is intended for students with no prior fencing experience with the saber. There is a onetime $10 equipment fee payable to the instructor.

BROWNING BUILDING (PINECLIFF PARK) 8350 Pinecliff Park Road, Frederick: I-70 E to Exit #55 (South Street). At stop sign turn left on Reich’s Ford Road, proceed approx. 2 miles.

After crossing the Monocacy River Bridge turn left on Pinecliff Park Road. The park is at the end of the road.

CATOCTIN CREEK PARK & NATURE CENTER 2929 Sumantown Road, Middletown: US 15 S/US 340 W, Exit towards Leesburg/ Charlestown. Merge onto US 340 W. Take Lander Road exit towards Jefferson. Turn right onto Lander Road. Turn left onto Jefferson Pike/MD-180. Turn right onto Broad Run Rd/ MD-383. Turn right to stay on MD-383/Broad Run Rd. Turn right onto Sumantown Road. Park will be on the right.

CENTERVILLE RECREATION CENTER 3601 Carriage Hill Drive, Frederick: Take I-270 South to Route 80 East. Cross over Route 355 and continue for approx. 1 mile. Turn left onto Carriage Hill Drive. School will be on your right.

Recreation Center entrance is located at the North end of the school.

DEER CROSSING RECREATION CENTER 10601 Finn Drive, New Market: I-70 E towards Baltimore. Take Exit #62, turn left on MD-75 toward Libertytown. Turn left at 1st stop light on MD-144. After passing through New Market turn right on Boyers Mill Road. Go approx. 1 mile, turn left on Finn Drive (Summerfield Subdivision).

Recreation Center is at the back of Deer Crossing Elementary School.

EMMITSBURG COMMUNITY CENTER 300 South Seton Avenue, Emmitsburg: US 15 N. Turn left on S. Seton Avenue. Center is on left next to Emmitsburg Elementary.

FIREHOUSE POTTERY & ARTS, LLC 233 S. Main Street, Mount Airy, MD: Take I-70 East towards Baltimore. Turn off Exit 68 (Route 27/Father Hurley Blvd.). Go straight onto Route 808/Main Street. Firehouse Pottery is about 1.5 miles down on the right beneath the Upper Deck restaurant.

LIBERTY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL 11820 Liberty Road, Libertytown: Take I-270 N and continue onto US-15 N. Take Exit 17 to merge onto MD-26 E/Liberty Rd toward MD194 / Libertytown / Walkersville. Slight right at Liberty Rd. Continue straight onto MD-26 E/Liberty Rd. School is on left.

MIDDLETOWN COOKING STUDIO 7628 Coblentz Road, Middletown: Follow directions to Middletown Community Park.

THOMAS JOHNSON MIDDLE SCHOOL 1799 Schifferstadt Boulevard, Frederick: US 15 N, take Motter Avenue Exit. Turn left on Motter Avenue. Turn left onto 14th Street. Turn left onto North Market Street. Turn right on Schifferstadt Boulevard.

THURMONT RECREATION CENTER (previously Catoctin Recreation Center) 408 East Main Street, Thurmont: US 15 N to Rt. 77 (Exit approx. 14 miles). Make left off Exit onto Main Street in Thurmont. After about one mile go right on Summit Avenue. The Recreation Center is on the right in the back of Thurmont Middle School.

TUSCARORA RECREATION CENTER 6321 Lambert Drive, Frederick: US 340 W, Exit 5 (ramp exit) for MD-351 (Ballenger Creek Pike), go right off the exit onto MD-351 for approx. two miles. Turn left onto Lambert Drive. School is immediately on right.

URBANA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL 3554 Urbana Pike, Urbana: I-270 S to Exit 26 to Fingerboard Road. Enter next roundabout and take 1st Exit onto MD-80 E/Fingerboard Rd. Enter next roundabout and take 3rd Exit onto MD-355/ Urbana Pike. At light turn left onto MD-355/ Urbana Pike North. School will be on left.

URBANA DISTRICT PARK 3805 Urbana Pike, Urbana: I-270 S to Exit 26 to Fingerboard Road, bear right off the exit. Turn left on MD-355. Park is on the right a half a mile past Urbana Community Park.

UTICA DISTRICT PARK 10200-B Old Frederick Road, Frederick: Take US 15 N to Old Frederick Road. Follow Old Frederick Road to stop sign. Park will be on left.

VALLEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL 11150 Windsor Road, Ijamsville, MD: Take US 15 S/340 W to Lander Road. Turn right on Lander Road to stop sign. Turn left on Jefferson Pike. School is on left approx. 1 mile.

WINDSOR KNOLLS MIDDLE SCHOOL 3519 Jefferson Pike, Jefferson, MD: Take I-70 E / US-40 E MD-75 S / Green Valley Rd via EXIT 62 toward Monrovia / Hyattstown.

Turn slight right onto MD-75 / Baldwin Rd. Turn left onto MD-75 / Green Valley Rd. Turn slight left onto Fingerboard Rd / MD-80 / MD-75.

Take the 1st right onto Green Valley Rd / MD75. Turn left onto Windsor Rd. WALKERSVILLE RECREATION CENTER 83 Frederick Street, Walkersville: Take US 15 N to Rt. 26 E. Go approx. 2 miles, at the 4th traffic light and just after crossing the Monocacy River, the road bears left.

WEST WINDS TENNIS CENTER 11411 Gas House Pike, New Market: I-70 E toward Mt. Airy to Exit 62 (New Market). The center is immediately on your left.

WALKERSVILLE RECREATION CENTER 83 Frederick Street, Walkersville: Take US 15 N to Rt. 26 E. Go approx. 2 miles, at the 4th traffic light and just after crossing the Monocacy River, the road bears left.

Early program registration is encouraged since roster size is limited. Registrations are accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Pre-registration required unless otherwise indicated.

REGISTRATION CONFIRMATION

Confirmation sent via e-mail, otherwise your cancelled check or credit card statement is your receipt. You will be notified if there is a problem processing your registration or if the program is cancelled. Please make a note of your program start date.

REFUND POLICY

If you want to withdraw from a program call 301600-2936. All requests for refunds must be made 2-weeks prior to the start of the program. A $4 processing fee will be charged for each participant per program refunded. All refund requests must be approved by the Recreation Superintendent.

Refunds will be issued according to the original method of payment. Registrations for trips that require pre-purchased tickets are not refundable.

RETURNED CHECKS

A $25 fee will be charged for checks returned for non-payment.

AGE POLICY

Program participants must be the advertised age for a program before the program ends. All age requirements are set to benefit the participants and to make the instruction consistent and safe.

DISCIPLINE

The Division has a discipline policy for program participants. In the event the participant is asked to leave a program/facility, no refund will be issued.

TRIPS ALCOHOL POLICY

We strive to have a family atmosphere on our trips. If you choose to drink alcohol while on one of our trips please do so responsibly and make arrangements to have a designated driver for your trip home from the bus drop off area.

PROGRAM CANCELLATIONS/ WEATHER-RELATED CLOSURES

Please see your instructor on the first day of your program for a schedule. If there is an exception, you will be informed by the Parks and Recreation staff on the program schedule. If you are not sure whether a program will be held, call our program cancellation line at 301-600-6291. During inclement weather, outdoor programs may be cancelled. Every effort will be made to make-up missed classes. Refunds will not be granted for rescheduled classes that are missed due to conflicts with personal schedules. The Division may cancel a program for any reasonable cause.
