Join The Children’s Museum for our annual Holiday Magic program with magic shows at 10:15 am; 11:15 am; 12:15 pm; and at 1:15 pm. Young visitors may enjoy hands-on activities, create seasonal decorative crafts, and visit with Santa Claus in the carriage museum. Walk-in program. Fee collected on-site.

HOLIDAY LIGHTS & LEGACY

Rose Hill Manor invites you to view our holiday lights display and participate in hands-on exploration of holiday traditions.

The program will highlight English Holiday traditions on Monday (12/6) & Wednesday (12/8); the roots of German holiday celebrations on Tuesday (12/7) & Thursday (12/9); and explore the history of St. Nick and “The Night Before Christmas” on Friday (12/10). Enjoy making a different takehome craft each night. Experience Rose Hill decorated for the holidays and discover the legacy behind traditions. Walk-in Program; Fees collected on site.

MUSEUMS BY CANDLELIGHT

Rose Hill Manor offers visitors an opportunity to experience the holidays in Early America with the annual Museums by Candlelight Open House. Enjoy the sights and smells of fresh evergreen, holly and citrus that “deck the halls” of the Manor. Guests may preview the museum while enjoying holiday music.

SHREK THE MUSICAL

SHREK THE MUSICAL, based on the Oscar®winning DreamWorks film that started it all brings the hilarious story of everyone’s favorite ogre to dazzling new life on the stage. In a faraway kingdom turned upside down, things get ugly when an unseemly ogre — not a handsome prince — shows up to rescue a feisty princess. Throw in a donkey who won’t shut up, a bad guy with a SHORT temper, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there’s one on hand... and his name is Shrek. Full of all-new songs, great dancing and breathtaking scenery, SHREK THE MUSICAL is part romance, part twisted fairy tale and all irreverent fun for everyone! The show starts at 1:00 pm.

Cost includes admission to the show and transportation. Seats are located in the upper balcony of the Baltimore Hippodrome.

Exploring paints such as watercolors, tempera, acrylics, pastels, papers, Model Magic and even photography will lead the way in discovering new and exciting techniques in art creation. Students ages 3-5 will develop a portfolio of work using a variety of mediums. Master and contemporary artists will be introduced including Edvard Munch of Norway, Romare Bearden of NC as well as appropriate art vocabulary. TIME MACHINE

Exploring art through time is the focus of this special Portfolio Kids session for 3-5 year olds. We study art through the ages from cave paintings, Egyptian and Greek art, masters of the Renaissance and the Impressionist Era and Pop Art to arrive in the 21st century with digital art. Preschool MOMMY & ME QUICKSTART TENNIS

A fun, fast moving introduction to tennis for toddler and their parents. We use smaller nets and racquets and large foam tennis balls that will help your little ones learn hand-eye coordination and balance. The court size is much smaller. Parents and their children will be on court together having fun and playing games. Scaling things down helps preschoolers learn easier and makes it fun. Kindercombo™ is a quality developmentally designed Ballet, Tap Dance, and Fitness program. The program is broken up into 20 minutes of ballet, 20 minutes of tap dance, and 20 minutes of warm-up and fitness.

This 6-week program helps develop gross motor skills, movement creativity, fitness, and body awareness, while teaching ballet and tap technique. Parents may observe during the final class. Ballet and tap shoes are required for this class.

Come join Heather Schleupner, Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200) and ECE Educator for after school yoga! The students will develop strength, flexibility, and coordination while releasing energy and learning how to focus through breathing, relaxation exercises, group games and posture practice. Flag Football NFL YOUTH FLAG FOOTBALL SPRING LEAGUE 2011

This is an 8-week, 5 vs 5 league, with teams of up to 10 players. Jersey and flag belts will be provided. All games will be played at Utica Park on Saturdays. Registration deadline is Monday, March 21st. Volunteer coaches needed. Volunteer coaches meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 29th at 6pm at Utica Park. Game times to be announced.

Practices will be held during the week and will be held at the coaches’ discretion.

All participants must wear a mouthpiece.

All requests must be made at time of registration and will only be accepted at time of registration. If you sign up under Head Coach’s child you will be expected to coach a team.

Learn the foundations Belly Dancing in this class. We train students to maintain a healthy dance posture. Recreation Centers Catoctin, Centerville, Deer Crossing, Middletown, Oakdale, and Tuscarora Recreation Centers are built through a cooperative arrangement called the “Park/School Agreement” between the Frederick County Government (on behalf of Parks and Recreation) and the Frederick County Public School System.

Players of all abilities and levels are welcome to attend these weekly drop-in programs. There is no formal instruction during any drop-in program. All necessary equipment is provided. The Center Coordinator will monitor drop-in programs. All participants must sign a waiver and code of conduct agreement upon entering a drop-in program for the first time.

Ages: All ages, unless otherwise noted. Children under 8 years must be supervised by an adult. One adult may supervise up to 6 children. All programs are co-ed unless otherwise specified.

Cost: $2 per person per program per day. For Family & Friends, a group of three or more in a family pays a flat $5 entrance fee.

Recreation Councils The Frederick County Division of Parks and Recreation recognizes eleven different volunteer recreation councils in Frederick County that are approved by the Board of County Commissioners as extensions of the Division to provide complementary and cooperative recreation and park opportunities to citizens. Councils consist of volunteers who coordinate special events, sports leagues, recreation programs, and more. These non-profit groups are made up of caring citizens like you.

REFUND POLICY

If you want to withdraw from a program call 301-600-2936. All requests for refunds must be made 2-weeks prior to the start of the program. A $4 processing fee will be charged for each participant per program refunded. All refund requests must be approved by the Recreation Superintendent.

Refunds will be issued according to the original method of payment. Registrations for trips that require pre-purchased tickets are not refundable.

RETURNED CHECKS

A $25 fee will be charged for checks returned for non-payment.

AGE POLICY

Program participants must be the advertised age for a program before the program ends. All age requirements are set to benefit the participants and to make the instruction consistent and safe.

DISCIPLINE

The Division has a discipline policy for program participants. In the event the participant is asked to leave a program/facility, no refund will be issued.

ALCOHOL POLICY

We strive to have a family atmosphere on our trips.

If you choose to drink alcohol while on one of our trips please do so responsibly and make arrangements to have a designated driver for your trip home from the bus drop off area.
