Enrolling in Summer Camp Sign-Up! How to Register: • Register online, or • Call 301-600-2936, have your program number (i.e. #24099) and credit card number ready.

You will receive a registration confirmation via e-mail after your registration is complete so please make sure your e-mail is current in our system. Be sure to verify your receipt for accuracy.

Accommodations We are able to offer reasonable accommodations, such as providing support staff to individuals with disabilities on an as-needed basis to assist in making the program a positive experience for the individual.

If you have a child who needs accommodations, please call 301-6002936 at least two weeks prior to your child’s camp start date.

Age Policy Program participants must be the advertised age of the program before the program ends. All age requirements are set to benefit the participants and to make sure the instruction is consistent and safe.

Complete Health Profile A health profile is required to be completed for each camp participant, through CampDoc, in order to attend. Only one profile is needed for the 2021 camp season.

If your child needs medication during camp hours, download the Medication Authorization Form through CampDoc. Staff is not permitted to accept medications until the proper paperwork is complete.

Please label all belongings. Personal belongings should be kept in a bag or backpack. Cell phones and electronic devices are allowed to be carried in the child’s backpack, but must be turned off during camp hours. Camp Policies Program Cancellations/ Weather-Related Closures Please see your instructor on the first day of your program for a schedule. If there is a change in the schedule, you will be informed

by Parks and Recreation staff of the update.

If you are not sure whether a program will be held, call our program cancellation line at 301600-6291. During inclement weather, outdoor programs may be cancelled. Every effort will be made to make-up missed classes. Refunds will not be granted for rescheduled classes that are missed due to conflicts with personal schedules. The Division may cancel a program for any reasonable cause.

Signing In/Out Parent, guardian or authorized person over the age of 18 must sign campers in & out each day and must show photo identification. Staff are required to ID all persons picking up children.

Late Pickup Policy If a parent or authorized person is late picking up the child, a late fee of $1 for every 3 minutes will be applied.

Refund Policy Our refund policy encourages early decisions, so as to not affect other customers or our ability to deliver efficient programs. All requests for refunds must be made at least 10 business days prior to the start of the program. A 20% administrative fee will be charged per refund transaction. Registrations that require advanced tickets are not refundable. Refunds for Sports League registrations must be made prior to the listed league registration deadline.

There are no refunds for missed sessions.

COVID-19 Refund Policy In light of COVID-19, we have revised our refund policy. If a participant is unable to continue in a program due to illness or exposure related to COVID-19, they will receive a credit that is pro-rated based on the number of days that is missed of said program(s).

The participant may request a refund of the credit via email at parksandrecreation@ frederickcountymd.gov or by calling the Central Office at 301-600-2936.

Camp Staff Camp staff are carefully screened and selected for their activity skills, level of enthusiasm, ability to work well with children, and good judgment. Training is provided on safety procedures and expected conduct, as well as activity planning and implementation. By state law, all staff undergo background checks and must be certified in CPR and First Aid. All camp directors are over 21 years of age.

Camp Deposits A $25 non-refundable/non-transferable deposit per camper, per week will hold your child’s space in the camps listed below. Balance of registration fees must be paid-in-full by 4 pm, Friday, June 4th. If payment is not received by this deadline, your child’s registration is cancelled. Registrations made after June 4th must be paid-in-full at the time of registration.

INSECT EXTRAVAGANZA It’s summertime and the bugs and butterflies are hopping at Catoctin Creek! Campers will just love to take bug hikes, play silly bug games, make cool bug crafts and meet our buggy friends living at the Nature Center.

AWESOME AMPHIBIANS Campers will learn what makes amphibians so special and have the opportunity to meet some that live at the nature center. We’ll explore the amphibian world through games, crafts, and outdoor exploration.

NATURE THROUGH THE SENSES Explore nature through the 5 senses by learning what they are, what they tell you about the world around you, and how animals use them to survive. Campers will explore their senses through games and activities. Each day will be themed based on one of the five senses.

REPTILES ROCK Whether it slithers or scampers, this camp is about all things reptile! Through hikes, games, crafts, live animal talks, and outdoor exploration, campers have fun learning all about our reptile friends here at the park.

Mythical ones, real ones, and just imaginary ones. Enjoy the week learning, discovering, and/or making up a creature.

WILDERNESS SKILLS We will spend the week learning new outdoor skills including: wildlife tracking, geocaching, survival shelter building, and much more.

Campers will also have the opportunity to test their skills in archery.

AQUATIC ADVENTURES This camp is designed for campers who love to be in and around the water and learning about the wild creatures that live there.

During the week the campers will be able to go tubing along the creek and explore many different parts of the creek. The campers’ experiences will be rounded out with waterthemed activities and games.

SURVIVOR CAMP Campers show their survival smarts by constructing survival shelters and trying their hands at other basic outdoor survival techniques such as fire building, collecting water, and tubing along the creek.

TINY SLUGGERS TEE-BALL Designed for little tikes to begin learning the fundamentals of tee-ball and teamwork in a fun, social setting. Miniskill stations and small games will keep them wanting more. Bring a glove for this program.

LITTLE STICKS LACROSSE Skill stations and small games will help little tikes get comfortable with a lacrosse stick; including scooping, cradling, and shooting in a fun team environment! SPORTS N’ MORE Participants will have the opportunity to learn and play a variety of sports. The instructors will lead participants in fun drills and game play to enhance each players’ skills in the sport. All skill levels are welcome! Participants must bring their own water bottle.

SUMMER SWISH BASKETBALL Bring your baller out to the court to learn and have some fun with basketball! This camp introduces the basic fundamentals of the game such as; passing, dribbling, scoring, and defensive skills. We will play fun games and participate in drills to enhance skills.

GOAL GETTER SOCCER This camp is designed for eager and active players that want to develop their soccer skills. We will emphasize the fundamental skills needed for soccer through fun games and exciting drills.

Our goal is to better your child’s soccer, physical, and social skills. Participants must bring their own water bottle.

END ZONE CHAMPIONS Test your skills on the gridiron with this all-around skills program! Modeled after the skills that the pros practice and compete in during the Pro-Bowl Skills Showdown, players will learn basic and advanced skills with passing, agility, catching, and punting in a fun atmosphere. FIELD HOCKEY FUNDAMENTALS This FUNdamental program is for beginners and experienced players.

We will focus on stick work, passing, shooting, and offensive/defensive (marking) techniques. Experienced and personable coaches are dedicated to teaching beginners and challenging experienced players. Required equipment: stick, shin guards, mouth guard and protective eyewear.

BREAKAWAY LACROSSE Experienced lacrosse coaches will provide in-depth hands-on covering stick-work, ground balls, shooting/ passing and offensive/defensive concepts. Participants will learn and enhance basic fundamental skills through drills and simulated game play.

Required equipment: BOYS: lax helmet, lax stick, shoulder/arm/elbow pads, gloves and athletic shoes/cleats. GIRLS: lax stick, protective lax eyewear, mouth guard, athletic clothing and footwear.

TRACKSTARS Participants will learn basic track and field fundamentals, and play fun games to reinforce the motor skills needed to run, jump, and throw! This program is designed for children who are just falling in love with running and want to learn more.

It will prepare teens with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly give care for children and infants. WALK THIS WEIGH

Forest bathing (or shinrin-yoku) has been popular in Japan for decades and is gaining momentum in the US. The practice encourages you to walk in the forest at a slower pace and take in the atmosphere around you. Multiple scientific studies have shown that it lowers stress and blood pressure levels, while increasing immune system functioning, making you more resilient to diseases and illness. These walks are slow-paced and generally cover less than a mile of trail. During this time the guide, in partnership with the forest, will offer an evolving series of invitations crafted to help participants slow down and open their senses.

The opening of ones senses encourages mindfulness, which readies the heart and mind to be fully present in the natural world. Come discover the medicine of being in the forest.

Walk this Weigh to a new you! Be prepared to sweat it out in this cross training workout. Program starts with a light warm up of walking and jogging. Will then move to a series of lunges, push ups, skipping, side skips, high knees and kicks, and covers about two miles. A great combination of strength, cardio, and endurance.

MID-DAY HIKE: WASHINGTON MONUMENT

Join like-minded outdoor enthusiasts as we challenge ourselves to 6-miles with a 1200’ elevation gain. This hike is an out and back trail that features the first monument built dedicated to George Washington.

This rather impressive monument was built in 1827. Make sure to wear comfortable, closed toe hiking shoes and bring a water bottle, snacks/ lunch. This hike will require the ability to complete hike at a fast-moving, group pace in alloted hiking time of 3.5 hours. Please come prepared with weather appropriate attire and a water bottle.

Join us for this instructor led swimming workout plan! Designed to build endurance and develop strokes all while getting a great workout. Must have basic understanding of the front crawl, back crawl, and breast stroke prior to this course. This camp trains participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies. Certification includes: Life guarding, First Aid, and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer through the American Red Cross. Attendance is mandatory for all classes! Fee includes textbook and resuscitation mask. Prerequisites will be required to enter class. They include: Participant must be at least 15 years old by the last day of class, Participant must be able to swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing using the front crawl and breaststroke, surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10 pound object, return to surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object, timed at 1 minute, 40 seconds.
