What better way is there to spend the week than to spend it making new friends? We will be doing just that while making crafts and doing activities that build friendships. Come spend the week having fun and leave with new friends!

This is a general day camp. Spend your summer vacation with us, enjoying games and crafts that reflect the weekly themes listed below. Weekly water days will be at each location. Whatever you are interested in there is a week for you. Camp is for participants’ ages 6-11 years.

Time: Monday-Friday 7:00 am-6:00 pm Campers must be dropped off between 7:00-9:00 am and picked-up between 4:00-6:00 pm.

Cost: $119 per participant per week.

Wonders of Nature  Session 3: 7/5-7/9

Ages: 6-11 years

Join us and explore the wonders of nature at Camp Monocacy. We will take nature walks and make leaf prints. Come see what’s in our backyard!

Camp Payment Plan: A $20 deposit per camper, per week will hold your child’s space. Balance of registration fees must be paid-in-full by 4 pm, Monday, June 14. Online registrations must be paid-in-full at time of registration. Camp Monocacy registrations made after June 15 must be paid-in-full at the time of registration.

Refund Policy: If you want to withdraw from a program call 301-6002936. All requests for refunds must be made 2-weeks prior to the start of the program. A $4 processing fee will be charged for each participant per program refunded.

All refund requests must be approved by the Recreation Superintendent. Refunds will be issued according to the original method of payment. Registrations for trips that require pre-purchased tickets are not refundable.

Nature camp features lively hands-on activities, games, nature walks, wildlife viewing, storytelling, and crafts. Every week will include new adventures as well as weekly favorites. The boardwalk, limekilns, and nature trails add to the fun at Fountain Rock Park.

Fun for Fledglings 

Session 1: 6/21-6/25

Ages: 4-5 years

Junior naturalists will enjoy this camp as they discover the diversity of the animal world. Campers will spend some time indoors learning about the nature center animals and also explore the great outdoors through games, crafts, and mini-hikes. This camp is for children that love animals and hands-on activities! Come join the fun!

Animal Quest 

Investigate the habits and characteristics of the “unhuggables”!

Slithering snakes, tantalizing toads, and cocky cockroaches are just a few of the creatures that will have center stage. Campers will have fun learning while participating in active games, crafts, and outdoor adventures at the park.

Bring your little one to meet Toby the Turtle, the mascot of Fountain Rock Nature Center. Campers will learn fun facts about Toby and other animals that call Fountain Rock their home. Crafts and games will be enjoyed every day!

For the campers that enjoy science, this camp explores the great outdoors as a living laboratory and explores the natural and physical world. Wonderful Wings & Wetland Things  Nature Camp for Animal Lovers  Session 6: 7/26-7/30

Ages: 6-9 years

Come and enjoy exploring the woods and wetlands of Fountain Rock Park. Learn what animals live in the park by participating in outdoor activities. Examining animal tracks, taking discovery hikes and creek walks, and enjoying special guest speakers will help sharpen the camper’s awareness of nature and its beauty!

Magical Arts &Crafts  8/2-8/6

Ages: 6-11 years

This course is designed for children who are interested in constructing their own props, tricks and magic apparatus in order to perform magic. Make your own trick cards or learn how to make a magic box! Paint and create your own magic wand! Mixed Medias used in order to foster engineering skills as well as artistic creativity.

Along with the creation of prop also comes with instruction on how specifically to use it. This course appeals to a wide range of students. Previous experience is magic is not required.

Puppetry 

Students of this program are introduced to a wide array of different puppets, including bag puppets, shadow puppets, human puppets, marionettes, tribbles, sock puppets, improvisational puppets, and so forth. Emphasis is put on comedy and script writing for the puppets involved. Parents are encouraged to come early Friday to see a performance of what was learned.

Attention home school parents! Are you looking for a group class for your home schooled children?

We have the class for you.

Our certified instructors will take your children through all the basics of tennis instruction. We will help them develop hand-eye coordination, learn the correct techniques and have fun. Over a 4 week period, we will cover all the basic strokes in tennis, give them an understanding of how the game is played and work on footwork and strategy. We will group the students into different age levels if necessary. At the end of the 4-week session, each student will receive a certificate of completion to use toward their home school requirement for physical education. We will also offer discounts for multiple siblings. Parent will be able to utilize fitness facility during classes for a nominal fee.

Ladies Adult Group Tennis Clinic

A fun fast moving introduction to tennis for toddlers and their parents. We use smaller nets and racquets and large foam tennis balls that will help your little ones learn hand-eye coordination, and develop coordination and balance. The court size is also much smaller than a full size tennis court. Parents and their children will be on the court together having fun and playing games. Scaling things down to their size, helps preschoolers learn easier and makes the game fun. It’s a great way to spend time with the little ones and get some exercise too! We can provide racquets. Athletic attire, including sneakers will be required. Adult participation is required for all classes in this 4-week program. $30 each additional sibling Ages: 3-6 years.

Group Tennis for Home School Students

Tennis is the sport of a lifetime! Have some fun and get a great workout while you learn the game of tennis! This adult beginner clinic will cover all the basic strokes of the gave and start you off with the proper foundation to start enjoying recreational play. Over a 4 week period, our certified instructors will get you moving on court, and each week you will cover a different aspect of the game.

Have you been looking for a new, fun way to exercise?

We have the class for you. Cardio Tennis is a fast moving, fun way to get that cardio workout you are looking for. This one hour class is about getting you moving with footwork drills, rope ladders and hitting some tennis balls. We offer both a beginner class as well as an intermediate class. If you have never played tennis before, the beginner class is for you. This class is more about movement and a fun cardio workout. You will get to hit a lot of tennis balls too!

If you have played tennis before, then sign up for the intermediate class. You’ll also get a great workout, run through some footwork drills, and hit a lot of balls. The class will be taught by our certified tennis professionals to some fast-paced music! Each session is 4-weeks, and we can also offer daycare services for a nominal fee upon request at West Winds.

This is a 4-week tennis clinic made just for the ladies. It is designed for the player that wants to take their game to the next level. It is also designed for those who have played before, but have not been on the courts for a while.

FC Ultimate Games Camp is a “fun camp” where we put an interesting twist on traditional games. We’ll play tons of games some are traditional and some are wacky. KidzArt Camps

AROUND THE WORLD: Students spend 5 exciting days exploring other countries and cultures through their art. At each stop, they create unique art as a souvenir. At the beginning of the week, each student is issued a blank ‘passport’ wherein they receive a stamp after their successful completion of each country’s artwork. As they do so, they will create exciting pieces from a variety of media. Daily activities will include several projects using artist quality media.

Each student will also receive a frame to put a piece of artwork in for displaying at home.

BASEBALL America’s Pastime Baseball Camp 

These camps are designed to suit players ages 6-12 and are great for all skill levels.

Each morning campers rotate through various skill stations designed to improve every facet of the game. Fall 2010 NFL Youth Flag Football League

Nature Programs Babes in the Woods

This program is created for infants! With baby in a backpack or “pouch”, the park naturalist will take parents on a leisurely walk in the park to help baby discover nature.

River Adventure Trips

Join us for the entire day as we embark on a journey in the great outdoors. Learn the basics of navigating a canoe, enjoy lunch on the river bank, and meet new friends all while getting a great workout. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Sign up for as many of these trips as you like. All you need is a lunch and appropriate clothing for each daily activity. Middle Potomac

Ages: 6 years and older. We will be riding the Potomac current from Brunswick south past Point of Rocks to the Mouth of the Monocacy River near Dickerson, MD. This is an excellent trip for first time paddlers, those looking take a dip and those with cameras.

The river along this section is usually teeming with wildlife and quite possibly we’ll spot a bald eagle or two. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

PREFORMING ARTS Children’s Chorus Camp 

Develop an ear for blending your voice with others through unison and part singing while experiencing the thrill of singing in a choir.

Compose and perform complex rhythms on African Drums. Receive instruction from the directors of the Frederick Children’s Chorus.

CO-ED Sand Volleyball Summer 4’s (June – August)

All teams in this 4 vs.4 CO-ED recreational league will play at least 8 regular season games and then compete in the championship tournament. Teams must have a minimum of 4 total players with 1 female on the court at all times. All games are self officiated. If you do not register with a team we will put you on one. A minimum of 6 players listed and a maximum of 10 players per roster is required.

Social Etiquette Manners and More!

Join us for a fun and interactive camp covering social etiquette, communication skills and table manners. Children will participate in activities to build confidence in areas such as hand shaking, eye contact, introductions, common courtesies, gift giving/receiving, telephone etiquette and much more. Learn more about doing presentations, speaking to a group, listening skills and nonverbal communication. We will also discuss behavior at the table, table settings and practice eating! It’s a great way for children to develop skills that are used everyday and hear it from someone other than a parent. Children will have fun while learning skills that will last a lifetime.

Age Policy

Program participants must be the advertised age for a program before the program ends. All age requirements are set to benefit the participants and to make the instruction consistent and safe.

Discipline

Confirmation will be sent via e-mail.

Otherwise your cancelled check or credit card statement is your receipt. You will be notified if there is a problem processing your registration or if the program is cancelled. Please make a note of your program start date.

The Division has a discipline policy for program participants. In the event the participant is asked to leave a program/ facility, no refund will be issued.

If you want to withdraw from a program call 301-600-2936. All requests for refunds must be made 2-weeks prior to the start of the program. A $4 processing fee will be charged for each participant per program refunded. All refund requests must be approved by the Recreation Superintendent. Refunds will be issued according to the original method of payment. Registrations for trips that require pre-purchased tickets are not refundable.

A $25 fee will be charged for checks returned for non-payment.

Please remember that we strive to have a family atmosphere on our trips. If you choose to drink alcohol while on one of our trips please do so responsibly and make arrangements to have a designated driver for your trip home from the bus drop off area.

Every effort will be made to make-up missed classes. Refunds will not be granted for rescheduled classes that are missed due to conflicts with personal schedules. The Division may cancel a program for any reasonable cause.
