Saturday, August 18 • Starts at 9am Ballenger Creek Park

Your child will have a blast running their very own “triathlon”, and you will have fun cheering them on! Kids will start off pedaling their way through the bike course, then transition to the running portion and conclude with a “swim” (a dash through a water obstacle course) as they head to the finish line to receive their medal. Advanced registration is required and space is limited.

Mighty Tikes (3-5 years) Mighty Kids (5-7 years)

Every participant is REQUIRED to bring a bike or tricycle and a helmet for this event. No bikes larger than 16”. Each participant will receive a t-shirt and medal. Don’t forget to bring your cameras!

Summer Camp Information

CAMPER HEALTH FORM

All camps require a camper health information form to be filled out and brought to camp on the first day. All campers must have a completed health information form on file at the camp location in order to attend. You may receive additional forms/newsletter that are specific to your child’s camp through email before the camp begins.

SIGNING IN/OUT

Parent, guardian or authorized person over the age of 18 must sign campers in & out each day and must show photo identification. Staff are required to ID all persons picking up children.

MEDICATION AUTHORIZATION

If your child needs medication during camp hours, download the Medication Authorization Form from our website at www.recreater. com. Staff is not permitted to accept medications until the proper paperwork is complete.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

LATE PICKUP POLICY

If a parent or authorized person is late picking up the child, a late fee of $1 for every 3 minutes will be applied.

• REGISTER EARLY! Many of our camps and programs fill up fast and registration is on a first come, first served basis.

• Participants must be the advertised age of the camp by the start of

• You will receive a registration confirmation via e-mail after your

Our refund policy encourages early decisions, so as to not affect other customers or our ability to deliver efficient programs. All requests for refunds must be made at least 10 business days prior to the start of the program. A 20% administrative fee will be charged per refund transaction. There are no refunds for missed days.

Children are encouraged to dress comfortably in old clothing and sneakers. Please do not send your child to camp in open-toed shoes or sandals.

Frederick County Parks and Recreation provides reasonable modifications upon request for individuals with disabilities. If you have a child who needs accommodations, please call 301-600-2936 at least two weeks prior to your child’s camp start date.

Campers are required to pack a non-perishable lunch, snacks and a water bottle for all full day camps.

Camp staff are carefully screened and selected for their activity skills, level of enthusiasm, ability to work well with children, and good judgment. Training is provided on safety procedures and expected conduct, as well as program planning and implementation. By state law, all staff undergo background checks and must be certified in CPR and First Aid. All camp directors are over 21 years of age.

A $20 non-refundable/non-transferable deposit per camper, per week will hold your child’s space in the camps listed below. Balance of registration fees must be paid-in-full by 4 pm, Friday, June 1st.

If payment is not received by the required deadline, your child’s registration is cancelled. Registrations made after June 1st must be paid-in-full at the time of registration.

MINI MONOCACY Join us for a little bit of “Monocacy Day Camp” combined with a preschool program. With higher staff to child ratios and incorporating preschool elements, this is the perfect stepping stone into our full day camp. Each weekly theme will feature stories, crafts, and games specially designed to help your preschooler learn and make friends!

MONOCACY SPORTS & GAMES Join us for an action packed summer of sports and games! Campers will have the opportunity to learn and play soccer, basketball, kickball, dodge ball, lacrosse, floor hockey and much more!

Campers will be introduced to two new sports each day with other exciting games and activities in between. Each sport will consist of fun drills and game play. Campers will rotate activities in age and skill appropriate groups. All skill levels are welcome! Indoor courts and outdoor fields will be utilized. ECO-ADVENTURE CAMP Do you enjoy getting your feet wet, exploring streams, searching for crayfish, salamanders and frogs? Then join us for a summer filled with outdoor adventures. Each week will include a weekly theme with the following core activities: creek walks, nature hikes and team building games. Please note: activities are subject to change due to heat advisories and unsafe weather conditions.

CREEK EXPLORERS This camp is designed for campers who love wading in the creek and searching for creek creatures large and small including crayfish, frogs, and salamanders. During the week, campers will be tubing along the creek (subject to water level), exploring, and much more.

MAD SCIENCE This is an opportunity for campers to experience science through experimentation and observations. They will participate in various activities that are based on scientific theories and fun.

WET AND WILD This camp is designed for campers who love to be in and around the water and learning about the wild creatures that live there. The campers experience will be rounded out with activities, games, and activities focused on water. For an additional $30, on select weeks, campers will be safely transported to and from Catoctin Creek Nature Center for camp. A Parks and Recreation Shuttle Van will leave daily from Rose Hill Manor at 7:30 am and return at 5:00 pm. Transportation is limited to 10 participants per week. Transportation is only available during weeks 4, 5 and 6.

SURVIVOR CAMP Campers show their survival smarts by constructing survival shelters and trying their hands at other basic outdoor survival techniques such as fire building, collecting water, and tubing along the creek (subject to water level).

WILDERNESS SKILLS We will spend the week learning new outdoor skills including: wildlife tracking, geocaching, survival shelter building, and much more.

Campers will also have the opportunity to test their skills in archery.

ECOSYSTEM EXPLORERS Explore the habitats of the wild animals of Catoctin Creek. Meet live animals and explore the creek, woods, and meadows of the park searching for the wild critters that live here.

CREEK CRITTERS We will search for the unique amphibians which live near Catoctin Creek including salamanders, frogs & toads. During the week campers will be able to go: tubing along the creek (subject to water level), seining for fish, dip netting, searching for crayfish and much more.

WATER FUN FOR EVERYONE ENROLLMENT Class enrollment is strictly regulated in order to provide proper teacher/student ratios. Once a class is filled, no one else will be allowed to register.

You may be placed on a waiting list at no cost. If an opening occurs, the first person on the waiting list will be contacted. This does not mean a place will be saved for the participants. Participants on the waiting list are not to come to the first day of class. The pool supervisors reserve the right to move participants from the class they originally enrolled in if there is room and the move merits the best interest of the student. Participants should be aware that every effort to provide a makeup class will be made in the case of cancellations, not the cause of vacation/illness etc.

STUDENT/TEACHER RATIO A student/teacher ratio which provides good safety and instruction is vital to our programs. We strive to maintain a 5:1 ratio for preschool classes, a 6:1 ratio for levels 1-3, and 10:1 ratio in levels 4-5. We cannot guarantee these numbers. Instructors may vary.

APPAREL Cut-off shorts, thongs, street clothes, and sweat pants are prohibited in the pool. Shirts may be worn over appropriate swimming attire. Children that are not toilet trained are required to wear approved swim diapers.

CANCELLATIONS/WEATHER POLICY Classes may be cancelled due to low enrollment, mechanical breakdown, low air or water temperature, or schedule change. Every effort to alert you to these cancellations will be made.

Frederick County law states that the pool deck must be cleared during thunder and lightning storms.

At the first sight of lightning or sound of thunder, the pool will be immediately evacuated. Swimmers will not be allowed to return to the pool until 30 minutes after the last occurrence of thunder or lightning. Every attempt will be made to continue through the scheduled practice when the weather clears.

LESSON OBSERVATION Please remember all swim instructors are American Red Cross certified with high standards. Please allow them to teach without distraction. A parent seating area will be provided. If you have a concern please wait until the class ends and discuss your concern with the instructor. We strongly encourage parents, if they feel comfortable, to bring kids to swim lessons and exit the pool area until class is close to ending.

Level 1 is for beginners with little or no experience in the water. To enroll into levels 2-6, students must have completed or at least be able to confidently demonstrate the skills listed in the previous level, including the exit skill requirements. Learning skills varies among children. Readiness is influenced by physical development, previous experiences, home environment, parental attitudes, and individual preferences. For most skills, there are simply pre-requisites; activities and leadups that can prepare the child to perform those skills. It may take many lessons before a child can swim independently. Year round practice, regular (supervised) exposure to water and positive encouragement are ways parents can help their child to progress. To make sure your child does learn to swim well, be sure they complete the entire learn-to-swim program.

FENCING CAMP This fencing camp will cover a brief history of the sword, as it relates to fencing, dueling, and the beginnings of the sport. CAVE EXPLORATION Join our experienced naturalist John Powers for a sneak peek at one of our local caves.

Learn about the local geology and history of this hidden wonder. Participants will meet on site. Please remember to bring: a water bottle, wear long pants, and be prepared to get a little dirty. MEN’S16+ PICK-UP LACROSSE LEAGUE The league is for males who want to continue to play lacrosse in the off-season. League play will be limited to stick checks and minimal (involuntary) body checks. All games will be played on the synthetic turf at Chuck Foreman Field on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Games will have officials and all registrants will receive an XL reversible jersey with their advance registration. Gates to the field open at 6 pm. Goalies are free to play (pre-registration is required). All athletes must provide their own equipment (helmet, sticks, gloves, shoulder pads, arm pads, etc.).

The County will provide the goals, and balls for game play. Minors under the age of 18 years must have a parent/guardian waiver completed prior to playing.

PROGRAM POLICIES REGISTER EARLY Early program registration is encouraged since roster size is limited. Registrations are accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Pre-registration is required unless otherwise indicated.

REGISTRATION CONFIRMATION Confirmations are sent via e-mail, otherwise your cancelled check or credit card statement is your receipt. You will be notified if there is a problem processing your registration or if the program is cancelled. Please make a note of your program start date.

REFUND POLICY Our refund policy encourages early decisions, so as to not affect other customers or our ability to deliver efficient programs. All requests for refunds must be made at least 10 business days prior to the start of the program. A 20% administrative fee will be charged per refund transaction.

Registrations that require advanced tickets are not refundable. Refunds for Sport League registrations must be made prior to the listed league registration deadline. There are no refunds for missed sessions.

PROGRAM CREDITS/TRANSFERS To avoid the administrative fee, a customer may transfer into another program with no additional fee. A credit may also be kept on the customer account at no additional charge.

Requests for both credits and transfers can only be made 5 or more business days prior to the program start date.

There are no refunds of credits.

RETURNED CHECKS A $25 fee will be charged for checks returned for non-payment.

AGE POLICY Program participants must be the advertised age for a program before the program ends. All age requirements are set to benefit the participants and to make the instruction consistent and safe.

DISCIPLINE The Division has a discipline policy for program participants. In the event a participant is asked to leave a program/ facility, no refund will be issued.

PROGRAM CANCELLATIONS/ WEATHER-RELATED CLOSURES Please see your instructor on the first day of your program for a schedule. If there is a change in the schedule, you will be informed by Parks and Recreation staff of the update. Every effort will be made to make-up missed classes. Refunds will not be granted for rescheduled classes that are missed due to conflicts with personal schedules. COACHES CREDIT POLICY Any Frederick County Parks & Recreation volunteer head coach will receive a 25% credit off of the league registration fee upon completion of coaching requirements. All returning volunteer head coaches will receive a 30% credit.

Head coaches are only eligible to receive one credit per team regardless of the number of children he/she has on the team; credits aren’t applicable to assistant coaches.
