HOMESCHOOL ARCHERY TAG
This class is appropriate for brand new beginners to intermediate archers. Curriculum will cover traditional basics of archery form, technique, and mental skills through competitive play using Archery Tag equipment at our new Scott Key Center gym. Archery Tag combines elements of dodgeball or other combattype games with the timeless skills of archery. ADAPTIVE BOCCIA CLINIC
Grab your favorite person (ages 18+) and join us for an evening of boccia basics. In this class, participants with disabilities along with their favorite adult will learn the fundamentals of boccia, including rules, skills, strategies, and game play. Registration is good for one enrolled participant and their favorite person (ages 18+). Caregiver participation required. Goals: To increase physical activity.
Essential Eligibility - Program levels 1-3. Participants must be able to provide personal care with the assistance of a caregiver who is on site. Participants must also be able to navigate the program terrain, including hard surfaces and flat terrain with the assistance of a caregiver who is on site. GYMNASTICS
EMPOWERED GYMNASTICS - ADAPTIVE GYMNASTICS Empowered Gymnastics will teach children with physical and development disabilities, delays, or differences, the basics of gymnastics. We will use lower level apparatuses to grow the students’ comfort levels and focus on starting positions and basic skills. Each class we will start with a warm up, then move to stretching, structured activities, and a game or group play at the end. Goals: To increase strength, improve coordination, and develop a basic knowledge of gymnastics. Essential Eligibility: Program Levels 1-2. Participants must be able to provide personal care with verbal direction or with the assistance of a caregiver who is on site, follow two-step directions, and fully participate in activity with a 1:8 participant ratio. Participants are able to convey feelings, desires, and needs verbally, with ASL, or with picture cues/communication device. Participants will stay with the group with the help of verbal prompts and can manage uneven terrain independently. 8 week session.

Participants must also be able to navigate the program terrain, including hard surfaces and flat terrain with the assistance of a parent/guardian/caregiver who is on site. TAE KWON DO, INTERMEDIATE
Students with previous tae-kwon-do experience will continue practicing self-defense skills such as blocks, kicks, and strikes. Participants will learn choreographed moves called forms. Also, students will learn various block and counter-attack drills with partners. Bag drills will be used to increase focus, power, and technique. In addition to learning new skills, classes offer increased flexibility, balance, coordination, and muscle memory. Participants will be required to wear a white uniform. AIKIDO
Aikido is one of the most modern forms of the Japanese martial arts. It has been called a “gentle” martial art because it uses strictly defensive techniques of evasion, redirection, and immobilization and control an attacker. Learn how to play the fastest growing sport in America! Pickleball combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping pong on a badminton-sized court, with a modified tennis net, paddle and lightweight ball. CRAZY RUNNERS
This program will prepare little runners to run a certain distance based on their age and abilities. Our program is designed to help develop coordination and athleticism in young kids. No matter what sport your kids are getting ready for, running can get them in great condition and help them become balanced, wellrounded athletes. We teach the fundamentals using structured practices, form drills, running specific exercises, and running specific plyometrics. Soccer Stars will provide individuals with physical and developmental disabilities, delays, or differences the structure to learn the fundamentals of soccer, including basic skills, game scenarios, and rules, while enjoying a team atmosphere and completing drills and activities at one’s own pace. Goals: To increase strength and improve gross motor skills, athletic ability, and social skill in an encouraging team environment Essential Eligibility: Program Levels 1-2. Participants must be able to provide personal care with verbal direction or with the assistance of a caregiver who is on site, follow two-step directions, and fully participate in activity with a 1:8 participant ratio. Participants are able to convey feelings, desires, and needs verbally, with ASL, or with picture cues/ communication device. Participants will stay with the group with the help of verbal prompts and can manage flat terrain independently. 8 week session.

Experience the colorful magic of fall in the Young Rembrandts classroom. Kick off the season with an interesting Iguana, a video game favorite Pixel Block Character and the geometrical world of architecture as we draw the Notre Dame Cathedral. Later, students will immerse themselves in the seasonal spirit as they learn still life technique of pumpkins, draw a detailed scarecrow, and draw a silly but challenging patterned bat. This fall, your preschooler will “fall” in love with our lessons. Just like the rainbow, our youngest artists will create in the month of September; we will cover a colorful and pattern-rich spectrum of subjects. We’ll soak in the warm colors of the sun as we draw a radiating sun face and we’ll be careful not to get tangled up in our patterned spider web we draw in October! This fall, we’ll go topsy-turvy for our cartoon lessons. Eating asparagus may not sound appetizing to some, but in a Young Rembrandts classroom, it’ll make for a fun and silly drawing. The never-ending rivalry rages on as the cats and dogs go at it again in the month of September. Develop a different and more expressive appreciation for vegetables as we draw veggie expressions in October. Beat that afternoon exhaustion by movin’ and groovin’ with us as we learn some of the classic party/line dances! Goals: To increase physical activity and improve flexibility and range of motion. Essential Eligibility: Program Levels 1-2. Enjoy the brief vistas of the Catoctin Mountain ridgeline and Monocacy Valley....and of course, the sights of tall poplars and an abundance of ferns. A 7 mile loop trail with a 1000’ elevation gain, rated as a technical trail considering both rocky and steep terrain. CAVE EXPLORATION
Join our experienced naturalist for a sneak peek at one of our local caves. Learn about the local geology and history of this hidden wonder. Participants will meet on site. Bring a water bottle, wear long pants, and make sure to wear comfortable, closed toe, hiking shoes. Helmets and lights will be provided. Cave tour (30 minutes) is mostly walking and stooping. Cave temp is 54 degrees. Trip will include a 1.5 mile hike to cave entrance along the C&O Canal (3 miles total). Any participant under the age of 16 must be accompanied by parent or guardian. APPLE PICKING TIME
With the fall weather, comes the Apple harvest. Learn about this wonderful fruit and how it develops through its life cycle. C&O LOCK 29 - SENSORY HIKE
Join us for a sensory hike starting at Lock 29 on the C&O Canal. We will stop at the Catoctin Aqueduct, take in the sights, and complete a mindfulness activity. This parent/child program gives children with sensory and developmental differences the chance to explore all nature has to offer. The trail is a stroller and kid friendly 1 mile out and back hike. The hike will take approximately 1 hour including a mindfulness activity. Essential Eligibility Criteria: Program Levels 1 - 4. Participants must be able to navigate relatively flat dirt paths. Goals: To increase physical activity, gross motor skills, and body coordination.

Frederick County Senior Services offers a variety of programs to help you maintain wellness and independence.


From speakers and workshops to special events and day trips; from enrichment and social opportunities to fitness classes and programs we offer something for everyone.
The 50+ Community Centers offers a variety of fitness classes such as strength training, yoga, Zumba, and line dance.
In addition, social, recreational, and educational programs are scheduled. These include discussion groups, book clubs, film club, drawing class, and health and nutrition programs.

You will receive a registration confirmation via e-mail after your registration is complete so please make sure your e-mail is current in our system. Be sure to verify your receipt for accuracy.
ACCOMMODATIONS
We are able to offer reasonable accommodations, such as providing support staff to individuals with disabilities on an asneeded basis to assist in making the program a positive experience for the individual. To request accommodations, please call 301600-2936 at least two weeks prior to the program start date.
REFUND POLICY
Our refund policy encourages early decisions, so as to not affect other customers or our ability to deliver efficient programs. All requests for refunds must be made at least 10 business days prior to the start of the program. A 20% administrative fee will be charged per refund transaction. There are no refunds for missed sessions.
AGE POLICY
Program participants must be the advertised age of the program before the program ends. All age requirements are set to benefit the participants and to make sure the instruction is consistent and safe.
PROGRAM CANCELLATIONS/ WEATHER-RELATED CLOSURES
Please see your instructor on the first day of your program for a schedule. If there is a change in the schedule, you will be informed by Parks and Recreation staff of the update. If you are not sure whether a program will be held, call our program cancellation line at 301600-6291. During inclement weather, outdoor programs may be cancelled. Every effort will be made to make-up missed classes. Refunds will not be granted for rescheduled classes that are missed due to conflicts with personal schedules. The Division may cancel a program for any reasonable cause.
