Embark on a thrilling, inclusive and self-guided adventure! This exciting program invites individuals of all abilities the opportunity for a fun and accessible trick or treat! For the week leading up to Halloween, some trick and/or treats will be hidden in one of our parks, every day. This adventure highlights our accessible trails within Frederick County Parks and will only be found within those trails. This inclusive opportunity is a free way to explore our parks and create lasting memories with friends and family! *CLUES FOR WHICH PARK THE TRICK OR TREAT WILL BE EACH DAY WILL BE EMAILED AT 9:00 AM AND YOU MUST BE REGISTERED TO RECEIVE THE EMAIL* FREE

SENSORY
FRIENDLY VISIT WITH SANTA
Essential Eligibility Criteria: Level 1-4. Haven’t gotten the chance to tell Santa your wishlist yet? We’ve got you covered! Come visit Santa, snap a quick picture, and see what other fun activities his elves have planned for you. This program is geared towards families of children with disabilities. Parents and siblings welcome. Attendees ages 2-21 must register for the program to attend. If a participant needs personal care, a caregiver must remain onsite.

Adaptive Recreation CRITERIA
Adaptive Recreation
Frederick County Parks and Recreation offers Adaptive Recreation (AR) programs for individuals with disabilities, developmental differences and/or higher support needs, with a focus on participants’ abilities. Programs are supported by trained staff, higher staff-to-participant ratios and adapted spaces, materials and content to provide meaningful recreation opportunities. To support safe and successful participation, programs use designated levels and essential eligibility criteria outlining the minimum physical and cognitive skills required. Please see levels below.
This icon denotes programs that are designed for participants with disabilities, developmental differences, or higher support needs.
LEVEL 1
• No assistance needed to maneuver rugged terrain and extended distances.
• Can maintain their own personal hygiene and without assistance.
• Can follow multiple-step instructions.
• Able to convey feelings, desires, and emotions without assistance.
• Demonstrates age-appropriate social and emotional skills in managing personal boundaries, relationships, communication, stress, and conflict.
• Will stay with group without assistance.
• Can independently manage the sensory stimulation of a frequently large, loud, and energetic group environment.
• For outdoor adventure-based programs only: Must be comfortable in a rustic, outdoor environment (e.g. exposure to extended periods of direct sun, varying weather conditions, insects/animals, grass/dirt/mud). Must be comfortable in open water using a PFD (personal flotation device).
LEVEL 3
• Difficulty with terrain.
• May use assistive and/or self-propelled device as listed in Level 2, plus powered wheelchair or scooter.
• Maintains personal hygiene with some assistance.
• Can follow instructions with assistance.
• Able to convey feelings, desires and needs with picture cues or communication device.
• Demonstrates age-appropriate social and emotional skills in managing personal boundaries, relationships, communication, stress, and conflict with assistance.
• Will stay with group with continuous supervision.
• Can manage the sensory stimulation of occasionally large, loud, and energetic group environment with assistance.
LEVEL 2
• No assistance needed with level surfaces.
• May use assistive device (manual wheelchair, canes, walker, crutches, etc.).
• Can maintain their own personal hygiene with verbal cues.
• Can follow single or two-step instructions.
• Able to convey feelings, desires and needs with picture cues or communication device.
• Demonstrates age-appropriate social and emotional skills in managing personal boundaries, relationships, communication, stress, and conflict with some assistance.
• Will stay with group with the help of verbal prompts.
• Can manage the sensory stimulation of a frequently large, loud, and energetic group environment with some assistance.
LEVEL 4
• Full assistance and/or self-propelled device as listed in Levels 2 and 3.
• Personal hygiene with full assistance.
• Limited comprehension.
• Able to convey feelings, desires and needs with full assistance.
• Will stay with group with continuous supervision.
Important Note: Unless explicitly stated in the program description, FCPR staff do not provide hands-on assistance with toileting or feeding/eating; staff will provide assistance with verbal cues or visual aids. If a participant needs assistance during activity hours, it is the responsibility of the parent/guardian/ caregiver or individual to arrange for assistance.
Adaptive Recreation
ADAPTIVE HALLOWEEN PARTY!
Essential Eligibility Criteria: Level 1-4. In Partnership with the Parent Resource Center, join us for our Adaptive Halloween Party! Enjoy games, crafts and treats as well as have the opportunity to practice trick or treating with your child to help prepare them for that special night! Participants must register, parents/guardians do not have to register.
ADAPTIVE HOLIDAY SHOP
Essential Eligibility Criteria: Level 1-4. Join us for a special opportunity for your child to shop for a loved one for a holiday gift. Limit to 4 gifts per child. Trained staff will be there to assist your child with hand picking from a variety of gifts. Then our holiday helpers will assist your child in our workshop with wrapping your gift. Light refreshments will be provided in the lobby while you remain onsite so that your child can enjoy their shopping experience. This event is geared towards individuals with disabilities. A questionnaire will be sent out a week before regarding questions on who your kiddo will be shopping for this holiday. FEE INCLUDES: Costs of gifts and gift wrapping.

ADAPTIVE SCHOOL’S OUT! THANKSGIVING EDITION
Essential Eligibility Criteria: Level 1-4. Join us for this School’s Out Program where we will be doing all things Thanksgiving, from Arts and Crafts to fun games! You’ll be thankful you signed up! Trained staff will be onsite to assist with personal care assistance.
ADAPTIVE SCRAPBOOKING WORKSHOP
Essential Eligibility Criteria: Level 1-2. Join us for this scrapbooking class! Bring in your own fun pictures and we will supply the rest! Each person will have the chance to make and start their own scrap book to add more memories for years to come! ROCK

ADAPTIVE CHEER FUNDAMENTALS

Essential Eligibility Criteria: Level 1-2. Geared towards anyone who is new to cheerleading or wants to build a strong foundation in the sport. This program welcomes both male and female athletes of all experience levels (including absolute beginners) Program Focus: Frederick County Cheer Fundamentals is designed to introduce young athletes to the exciting world of cheerleading in a safe, supportive, and fun environment. Our experienced instructors will guide participants through the essential building blocks of cheerleading. This program is geared towards individuals with higher support needs. If participant needs personal care assistance, parent/guardian must remain on site.

Join us for these exciting classes where you will learn new recipes, cooking techniques, and kitchen tips and tricks while exploring and creating delicious, nutritious meals! This program is geared towards individuals with intellectual disabilities. Please note that all cooking classes are subject to using, but not limited to, the following allergen related and dietary restrictive foods unless otherwise specified in the title/description (i.e. if titled Gluten-Free Cooking):Gluten, Dairy, Eggs, Onions, Garlic, Pork, Nuts.

Essential Eligibility Criteria: Level 1. Grab a friend and join us on an adVANture as we take the Frederick County Parks and Recreation van to new and exciting locations outside of the county. With our trained and qualified staff with a 1 to 3 staff to participant ratio, participants will be able to enjoy fun activities with friends without the hassle of driving themselves! This program is geared towards individuals with higher support needs.

SOCCER
POWER WHEELCHAIR SOCCER CLINIC
Essential Eligibility Criteria: Level 3-4. This clinic will provide the basic skills and techniques of power wheelchair soccer. Power soccer is an adaptation of traditional soccer. Unlike traditional soccer, power soccer athletes play the game using specialized wheelchairs and adaptive equipment. Players use power wheelchairs and soccer guards to maneuver the ball across the field and score goals. Participants must use a power chair to be eligible. If a participant needs personal care, a caregiver must remain onsite.
