Town Times report
Haunting at the Ridge, an attraction by Graveyard Productions, is back at Powder Ridge Mountain Park & Resort. The haunt, which brings its guests shivering up the mountain on a chair lift, will take place every weekend in October. According to Laura Loffredo, director of sales and marketing at Powder Ridge, more than 500 people attended the opening night of Haunting at the Ridge on Friday, Sept. 30. Passes can be purchased at powderridgepark.com. Nicole Zappone, Town Times
The communities of Durham and Middlefield and the Drug Enforcement Agency are teaming up once again to give the public the opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. On Saturday, Oct. 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., residents can dispose of these medications at the Middlefield Resident State Troopers Office. See Drug Take Back Day, A11
First Selectman Eames settling into new role By Nicole Zappone Town Times
Back in July, Durham First Selectman Laura Francis resigned from her post to take a position with the South Central Region Council of Governments. Deciding who would step in as Durham’s first selectman took some time — several weeks — but on Aug. 26, Francis’ successor, fellow Republican George Eames, was sworn into office.
Eames has sat on Durham’s three-member Board of Selectmen since 2019, and will serve out the remainder of Francis’ term, which ends in December of 2023. “It’s multiple hats, multiple purposes, and I’m good at that,” Eames said of his new role. “It’s a work in progress.” “The town is really moving, and there are a lot of projects going on,” said Eames, who grew up in Durham and raised his family in town.
