Around Town Open house celebration The Durham Recreation Committee invited community members to a Meet the Resident Troopers open house celebration Saturday, June 3. The gathering took place at the recently-opened Durham Community Center, the new home of the Resident Troopers office. The family-friendly open house event included ice cream, a bounce house, crafts, and more. The Durham Community Center is located at 144 Pickett Lane in the former Francis E. Korn Elementary School building.

The Durham Animal Response Team asked the community for help naming the “horse” the group uses for training. After receiving many suggestions online and at the local Memorial Day parade, where the horse made its public debut, D.A.R.T. settled on a name. In honor of Dr. Steven Levy, who played an instrumental role in getting D.A.R.T off the ground, the horse will be known as Doc. Pictured: Members of the Durham Animal Response Team and Doc. On May 4, 2021, voters approved of the Town of Durham taking ownership of the property. Soon after, work began to trasition the former school into a community center. See Around Town, A9
