For thrillseekers looking for an activity this Halloween, the Evidence of Evil Haunted Attraction has returned to Lyman Orchards for weekends in October.

“The market is really tightening up with municipal experience and accounting experience, which are the two things that we’re looking for,” he said. Mancarella was hired in July to replace Beth Moncata, who left for the same position in Middlefield. Eames said Moncata’s departure highlights the difficulty towns face: many are competing for the same small group of applicants.

The attraction opened Sept. 29. It will continue to run Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through Nov. 4. Evidence of Evil is somewhere between an escape room and a haunted house, says David Belas, one of the attraction’s organizers.

He said municipal finances are different from the accounting process in the private sector. Even more, many towns use a software system that is very different from both the private sector and from state level finances.

“As you go through the show, you have to interact with the different characters, whether it be repeating something they say or doing something they asked you to do,” Belas said. Evidence of Evil distinguishes itself through its interactive elements. Belas says there might be one or two puz-

Evidence of Evil including ‘The Basement’, ‘The Witch’s Castle’, and ‘Wraiths’. Those interested in facing the frights at Evidence of Evil should know the event is PG-13 in nature. While attendees can exit if they’re too frightened, there are no refunds. That is to say, Evidence of Evil is not for the faint of heart.

“We start as soon as we can, you know as soon as the snow and ice melts,” Belas said.

The attraction began at Lyman Orchards in 2021. Justin Coretto, the operations manager, said the small group running Evidence of Evil wanted to create something that stands out from the crowd.

This is just one of many autumnal offerings that take place at Lyman Orchards, though many of the other activities are less “haunting” in nature. In the fall, Lyman Orchards offers pick your own apples and pumpkins as well as a corn maze.

“We wanted to make an attraction that stands out on its own for being something unique and, I guess, uniquely entertaining in a way that you can’t really get elsewhere,” Coretto said.

This culminates in the attraction running through Halloween season for fans and new faces alike.

Our destination became Dakota Wesleyan University and the George McGovern Legacy Museum. McGovern was raised in Mitchell, attended college at Wesleyan, met his wife of 64 years there, became a SD senator, and ran an unsuccessful campaign against Nixon who had to resign two years later. Why did we care? We voted for a president the very first time in that election. Whether the Nov. 7, Durham election will be your first or 40th, take stock that we are fortunate that the times have brought us serious and earnest candidates to vie for First Selectman and Selectman. I ask that you not only vote in this municipal election but throw your support behind Chris Balay and Tom Hennick. Chris, for First Selectman, has a sweeping knowledge of this town and its current and historical challenges through his endless hours devoted to key and substantive volunteer town and fair assignments. Tom, for Selectman, former Durham selectman and RSD13 board member, is one of the most respected advisors on state government policy and open government that we could possibly have. Editor : Why would I, a Democrat, vote for Jim Irish or Bob Yamartino?

Town wrong in this regard: the Board of Ed has listened to Middlefield’s voice concerning taxes through Jim and Bob (and others). Although no one likes high taxes, they have poured over the data with the BOF, giving us reasonable and livable budgets. Also, they are both looking decades ahead in implementing programs to benefit our town with costefficient savings.

I have seen both Jim and Bob spend hours on end within the Town Hall and Community Center. They don’t twiddle their thumbs. Both have lent their keen business acumen with timely, pertinent, and interested advice via their many years of leadership on Boards of Finance, and on the Board of Selectmen.
