The first North Haven Festival & Business Expo will be held this Saturday, Sept. 23, at the North Haven Town Green.
The event, which is run by the Quinnipiac Chamber of Commerce, will feature multiple local businesses and vendors, as well as music on the green from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is free to all.
There will be an antique car show and family activities from the YMCA of Wallingford. The Business Expo will also have food from local vendors such as J Roo’s, Connecticut Chowder, and the Corinthian Lodge 103 Masons.

If live music and supporting local business isn’t enough, Andrewsen also said attendees have the chance to get free merchandise.
“The first 200 people (who) come to the green will receive, if they choose, a free titanium engraved water bottle a very nice item...go engrave your name right on the bottle,” Andrewsen said.
Attendees will also have an opportunity to vote for their favorite vendor booth, an act which will automatically enter them into a raffle to win Avelo Airline tickets or a Weber Griddle, among other prizes.

As Benhaven prepares to hold its fifth Walk for Autism on Sunday, Sept. 24, much of the excitement seems to be geared toward pizza and WTNH’s Channel 8 weather mobile two popular activities that happen only after
the event’s main two-mile trek near North Haven High School.
“We have a lot of folks who are very food-motivated and pizza’s definitely a favorite food,” said Tacie Lowe. For 33 years, Lowe worked as Benhaven’s Individual and Family Support program di-
rector. Although she’s now retired, Lowe has remained as a consultant for special projects. The Walk for Autism is one she’s helped coordinate since its inception.
“The whole day is really the best event. I couldn’t really choose,” she said. “I think everybody seems to have a really good time.”
For 60 years, Benhaven has supported students and families living with autism. The nonprofit agency operates programs that target educational, behavioral and personal growth, including exercise and health. However, its Walk for Autism offers more than just exercise. It’s an event that helps raise funds for a community in need and embraces the relationships and connections within that community.
Different departments use the funds in different ways, Lowe said. The Individual and Family Support program in particular has been able to provide free meals and gym memberships for people facing food insecurity and other financial struggles.
To register, participants can visit jbsports.com. While the registration fee is $30, those who donate or raise $200 or more get to enter for free.
Registration closes this Sunday, Sept. 24 at 4 p.m.
The walk itself starts at North Haven High School, continues along Bailey Road and circles back to the school. Much of the journey is flat and is either on school grounds or near quiet neighborhoods.
There’s also a virtual walk option for people who are unable to participate in person. After registering, virtual participants are mailed an event tee-shirt and a race bib. On Sunday, they’ll do their two miles within their own location.
Awards will be given to the top individual and team fundraisers. Donations aren’t mandatory for participants, but they do help, Lowe said. Sponsorships also add a lot to their funds.
A participant named TJ has managed to win the top donor prize for the past four years, thanks to his computer savviness. His top method
is sending out emails to his long list of friends, as well as his parents’ contacts.
“We don’t know what’ll happen this year,” Lowe said.
“We still have another week, but he’s in the running (to) do it again.”
Following the walk, numerous activities will be open for participants and families to enjoy: face painting, games, raffles, and live music. There will also be emergency vehicles namely a fire engine and an ambulance on display. This year, the space for festivities is more open and more private, lessening the risk for sensory overload.
Benhaven’s Walk For Autism has grown every year since it started, Lowe said. She expects Sunday to have a great turnout.
“I think every year it’s become more and more magical,” she added. “People just have such a nice time. Families get together, old staff, alumni, students who graduated from Benhaven come back. I can’t explain how special a day it is.”

A Billboard Overlay District BOD is being proposed for I91 in North
Haven. They want to litter our town’s beautiful landscape with gigantic, bright DBBs 15’ x 60’ and 35 feet in height from the property grade. There will be 750 feet between DBBs located on minimum 4 acres on IG-80 and IL-80 properties. DBBs can be 200’ from parks, playgrounds, cemeteries, and they can be 500 feet from residential neighborhoods! These monstrosities are 900 square feet in size with TWO digital faces that will be lit 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year!

Amid the defeat, Ferrazzi did say that he was pleased with the grit his team showed throughout the game.
“North Haven was the better team tonight and I told our guys that I was really proud about the way they left it out there,” he said. “I saw some guys play their hearts out and played a lot of snaps tonight.”
The way the game started, it looked like the Titans were going to control the tempo. The offense completed a masterful 69-yard drive capped by a two-yard touchdown run by sophomore running back Brady Rossacci. Gorry went 5-for-5 for 37 yards on the drive.
On the ensuing drive for North Haven, Sheehan defensive lineman A.J. Tatro recovered a fumble and rumbled to the Nighthawks 31yard line.
Four plays later, North
Haven cornerback Connor Rapuano intercepted a pass from Gorry intended for DiNuzzo and took it 80 yards for a game-tying touchdown.
“With that play on defense, it is all about doing your homework and making sure you look at the scouting report,” North Haven head coach Anthony Sagnella said.
The pick-six proved to be the momentum shift as the Nighthawks marched down the field on their ensuing possession. Mastroianni threw a perfect 21-yard touchdown pass to tight end Ryan Bernardo to give the Nighthawks a 14-7 lead.
The drive was highlighted by a 26-yard pass from Mastroianni to Rapuano on a 3rd-and-24.
“Joe is a tough little guy,” Sagnella said. “He threw the ball on a rope tonight. I think had he not cramped,
we would have been more cohesive in the second half.”
The Titans would not go quietly. They completed a 65yard drive highlighted by DiNuzzo’s 42-yard touchdown to tie the game at 14all.
Mastroianni was not going to be stopped, however. He returned the ensuing kickoff 60 yards into the red zone
and finished off the drive with an 8-yard touchdown run to make the score 21-14.
On the ensuing drive, Rosacci lost a fumble to put North Haven back in scoring position. It appeared that he was down by contact and Ferrazzi was not happy with the call.
“I disagreed with the call
and took a look at the film already,” he said. “We didn’t think it was a fumble, but that was the call that was made. I was happy to hold them to a field goal (attempt) after that.”
North Haven was unable to convert on the field goal due to a botched snap, but turnovers continued to ravage Sheehan’s chance at a comeback. A muffed punt led to a second field goal for the Nighthawks. This one was successful and it gave them a 10-point cushion, 2414.
Despite their best efforts, which included a beautiful 33-yard touchdown pass from Gorry to Rossacci, the Titans were unable to recover from North Haven’s ruthless rushing attack.
“This loss should sting us, but hopefully it will fuel our fire,” Ferrazzi said. “That’sa good football team and could be one of the best teams we face, but if I know anything about our team, we will use this to get better moving forward.”
