Box 610 Southington, CT 06489 Re: Chief John Daly Dear Attorney Sciota: I understand you have been instructed by the police commissioners and town councilors to help retain an independent and knowledgeable individual to examine whether there were improprieties committed by the chief in connection with his efforts to hire Eric Daigle. On behalf of Chief Jack Daly, I am writing to make it clear that we are looking forward to the appointment of an investigator. Chief Daly's name has been dragged through the mud by selfish employees who are angry that Chief Daly wanted to appoint Eric Daigle to.a captaincy rather than one of them. We anticipate an independent investigation will put an end to this ugliness. Some citizens may be misled when they read in the newspapers that Mr. Daigle is a supernumerary. They might have jumped to the conclusion that he is not as qualified as others in the department. But the truth is that Mr. Daigle is a retired state trooper, highly trained and credentialed, and also an attorney in a prestigious Hartford law firm, specializing in cases germane to police work. He is as qualified as any officer in the department. Chief Daly has taken advantage of Mr. Daigle's peculiar knowledge and ability to bring in more than $400,000 in grant money to the police department.
