TIME TO CELEBRATE
Cheshire High School staff cheer on the Class of 2023 on Wednesday, June 14 as the soon-to-be graduates walk into the John H. Thorp Auditorium. The threat of severe weather that evening prompted commencement excercises to be moved indoors. The 329 graduates are listed inside. ‘Maui’ Otero, 8, finds his field of dreams in Cheshire By Lau Guzmán Record-Journal staff
CHESHIRE — Mauricio “Maui” Otero, 8, hit his first home run earlier this month at Cheshire’s McNamara Legion Field. Otero was jogging to second base when he saw his coach make the “run the bases” sign, twirling his finger in the air. Otero answered with the same twirling sign and jogged all the way to the home plate.
“When I got to home, everyone came out of the dugout and people started cheering,” Otero remembered. The youngster plays with the Cheshire Reds, a new travel team for kids ages 8 and under. Otero’s home run was the first one in recent memory, or at least since the pandemic paused the training for many of the players in the league.
