Selection of firm for new elementary schools underway Citizen staff

The Next Generation School Building Committee is narrowing down its final candidates as it seeks an architectural firm to lead the school district’s new building projects. The district plans to build two elementary schools with the intention of having these ready by the fall 2026.

Big step to connect local towns with trail nears completion MERIDEN — After launching the project nearly a year ago, city officials say disaster prevention measures along Harbor Brook are nearing completion, with a possible conclusion date as early as this fall.

Committee members visited Barack Obama Magnet University School in New Haven on Feb. 15, a 64,000 square foot facility that cost $45 million to build. Next, the committee was to make a recommendation to the Town Council. Most likely, that means a recommendation of one or possibly two firms would be presented to the Town Council at its March 14 meeting, per Committee Chair Richard Gusenburg.
