Area schools keep watch on student absences
A MUSICAL REVIVAL
By Jessica Simms Record-Journal staff
Students are considered chronically absent after they have missed 10% or more of the school days. And missing so many days can make it harder for them to catch up. In the aftermath of the disruption caused by the pandemic, some area school administrators are
reporting absentism rates that are even higher, but all of them are keeping close watch and working to reduce the number of days students miss. In Cheshire, Superintendent Jeff Solan said the school system monitors absences, reaching out to families when the school is not aware why a child is See Absent, A6
