June 8, 2020 Greetings, I, Miguel Castro Councilman of Area 1, would like to announce with great sadness that I will be providing my letter of resignation. To begin, my family and I have been experiencing some challenges over the past several years. These challenges have unfortunately been strenuous on myself and my family. Last week, those challenges hit a peak and I regret the circumstances that were ensued. Unfortunately, my family cannot heal while I am in the public light as an elected official. While I am passionate about my political convictions and I believe, my voice has a positive effect on the current political environment. My family must come first at this time. While I could wait for the judicial process to resolve this matter I have decided that at this time I must focus on my family and their needs. While I have no intention of making my private life public, I find myself in a situation where I want to provide further details on the incident. However, I know in doing so I will only reopen wounds that at this moment are too sensitive. For those of you who know me personally, you know that I could not have committed an act of domestic violence. During my eight years in office, I have served as an advocate for the hard-working residents in Area 1, small businesses, standing for social justice, equality for the LGBTQ+ community, efforts against domestic violence, and the undocumented community. I have come to the realization that I can advocate for my community outside of my role as a City Councilor, and I intend in doing so. I was raised with a strong commitment to faith and family, and my family needs me now more than ever. I want to thank you all for your support and friendship over the last eight years. It has been an honor to serve side by side with all of you. I will be resigning from my position as City Councilor, effective immediately, on June 1, 2020. I will be devoting my time and attention to my family. Please respect our privacy at this time as we are currently healing from our current circumstances as well as the past. Respectfully,
~--. ~
Miguel Castro
