Celebrate 2,000 homes and beyond 2017-2018 Annual Report

The highlight of our 21st year is, undoubtedly, our switch from being an affiliate of a national organization to being a standalone entity – Revitalize T-Town (RTT). Over my past 3 years on the board, including this past year as board chair, I have worked with a group of dedicated board members as we have evaluated how best to help RTT serve Tulsa homeowners in need. The board, in conjunction with much consultation from the RTT staff, past board members, and industry professionals, decided that a change to Revitalize T-Town would allow us to best fulfill our mission – making homes safe and secure for lowincome homeowners.

The staff and board wanted the transition to Revitalize T-Town be seamless to our donors and clients, and the RTT staff worked tirelessly to make that happen. Although our name, logo, and color schemes changed, the daily business of RTT continued without interruption. We fulfilled all of our commitments to our donors who helped us raise more than $868,977 and we were able to assist 142 local deserving homeowners with much-needed home repairs.

As Revitalize T-Town, we look forward to new opportunities that are all focused on improving our local service model. Our staff has a long tradition of implementing innovations that allow us both to serve our client homeowners and to efficiently convert donated funds to services provided. Innovations over the past year have included how we utilize contractors, how we utilize our own staff to fill in service gaps and decrease our service times, and how we utilize volunteers on projects.

As we look forward to this next year, we are excited about the role we can play as a purely local organization. We believe that in fulfilling our mission, we are helping to improve the Tulsa community as a whole. Thank you all for your generous support over the past 21 years. We are confident that our change to Revitalize T-Town will allow us to even better deliver on providing those services that have brought us this far. We are excited about where we are going and we look forward to friends, old and new, who will be embarking on this journey with us.

We would like to take the time to express our gratitude to you for your support of Rebuilding Together Tulsa (RTT), now Revitalize TTown (RTT). You are an integral part of our organization, and with your help, we are able to bring hope to many families in our community. Please visit our new website www.revitalizettown.org, Revitalize T-Town (RTT), formerly known as Rebuilding Together Tulsa, has spent 21 years serving our community and creating a strong foundation for our organization through our affiliation with the national brand. As we continue to grow and better understand the specific needs of our city, we believe we are able to improve our service to the community by branching out on our own. This allows us to tailor our services to the unique needs of Tulsa, produce the best results for those we serve and become better stewards of our donors’ resources.

Even though Tulsa is considered a city, we believe in helping our neighbors like we live in a small town. Through our home repair program, we are able to revitalize our low-income neighbor’s homes, making them safe and secure while restoring a sense of hope. This process allows our aging neighbors to have confidence that they are able to stay in their homes throughout their golden years, our neighbors living with disabilities to live independently, and our neighbors with families to find comfort in raising their children in a safe and secure home.

Celebrate changed lives Mr. and Mrs. W.

Mr. W., a Navy veteran, and his wife have lived in their home for 54 years. They raised two kids in their home and watched their 6 granchildren grow up nearby.

They have family pictures up all over their home and are proud to show them to visitors! Mr. W. used to do a lot of work on their home, but, due to aging and health, he was unable to complete the repairs needed for their home to be a safe place to continue to age in place.

“They did way more than we ever expected and we are just so grateful!”

Earlier this year, Mrs. W. had a bad fall down the stairs into her garage, resulting in a head injury. She is fully recovered but was fearful of falling. Mr. W. heard about RTT from PSO and sent in an application. Mrs. W. said, “We sure appreciate anything. He used to do everything but with age and health, he can’t anymore. Thanks a million!”

RTT installed a grab bar and low-rise steps into their garage, grab bars in their bathroom and energy efficiency repairs including a new back door and attic insulation!

Mr. and Mrs. L. Mr. and Mrs. L. live in their home with their one year old daughter. Their roof was in need of replacement, but as a young family trying to get their new business off the ground, they did not have the finacnces availlable. They patched the leaks in the ceiling on their own several times, but because of the damaged roof, water continued to come inside their home when it rained despite repair attempts on their own.

Revitalize T-Town replaced Mr. and Mrs. L’s roof, giving them a safe and healthy place to continue raising their family! After receiving a new roof, Mrs. L. sent a letter saying:

“You have changed our lives.

Truly!”

“To all Donors and the Revtialize T-Town team, You have changed out lives. Truly! Our roof was in terrible shape and we simply didn’t have the money or know how to fix it ourselves. The leaks were causing such a hassle inside and we really didn’t know how long we could go without having it replaced before it did irreparable damage. Your team was so kind and communicative, treating us with great respect and not making us feel less for our current socio-economic status. Thank you! From the bottom of our hearts!”

Ms. M. Ms. M. is 85 years old and has lived in her home for 26 years.

She loves to bake and welcomes friends into her home with open arms. A surgery for a brain tumor, a back surgery and joint problems have made it difficult for her to get around her home on her own. She uses a walker and assistance from a healthcare provider.

She had a steep, weathered and unstable ramp she had to use when going to doctor appointments. When Revitalize T-Town staff first visited her home, she said, “I have a terrible fear of going down that ramp.”

Revitalize T-Town built a new ramp for Ms. M. When she saw their completed work, she said, “I love it. I do. I do. I do!”

Ms. M was thrilled that she would be able to safely get outside to attend her grandson’s wedding at the end of October.

“My old ramp was an accident waiting to happen. I was so fearful. Now I can go outside! This is such a blessing.”

Ms. M. baked pound cake for the volunteers to say thank you.

She said, “My mother told me to never let someone be nicer to you than you are to them. I have remembered that. There is no reason to not be generous!”
