Fashion In deepest, darkest Newport, the waters are stirring and the wheels are turning. A determined and driven brand is circling, and they're ready to pounce on the UK with their striking creations. With strong ethical beliefs, a firm stance on spreading body positivity and a passion for producing locally designed and made clothing, Chyvonne Le Monnier are the new kids on the block to watch for. We recently caught up with them to find out about their beginnings, and where those ethereal designs came from.

Fashion How did Chyvonne Le Monnier begin? I'd been interested in starting my own business for a a few years before I went to university, and last year there was an entrepreneurial university module that I thought looked interesting. That was when all my ideas about what I wanted my brand to be really came together and I created Chyvonne Le Monnier - an ethically made, alternative fashion brand that tries to help the environment and wider world. I had to pitch this idea to a panel of judges and they gave me £500 to launch it!!! We launched September 2014 and we're looking forward to releasing our first summer T-shirt collection May 2015 and taking our more 'couture' designs to Graduate Fashion Week.

I know you're very proud of being home-grown - can you tell us a little bit about your ethos as a company, and what it means to you? We have 5 main principles: to be locally made, ethically manufactured, as eco-friendly as possible, to encourage a healthy body image and to never use exotic skins or real furs. Being locally made (UK as opposed to overseas) is important as the UK used to have a huge textile industry that's almost vanished but is starting to come back so I want to support that. It's also important as I know all UK companies have to pay their workers a decent minimum wage. so I know no one is being exploited. The ethical manufacture is very important to me because I don't want anyone to suffer for my designs - I couldn't sleep at night if I used sweatshops - and I'm passionate about preserving the environment for the future.

Where would you say you drew inspirations for your designs from?

Can you talk us through the process for creating your unique prints? I've been really interested in ancient religions like Egyptian, Norse and Buddhist but mostly Celtic because of my Celtic heritage, it’s a side of myself I feel very connected to and I've recently been looking into their ancient Pagan religions and the modern version known as Wicca. They use a lot of symbols and a lot of healing techniques, such as herbal remedies and crystal therapies, which tend to come up under the umbrella of ‘alternative therapies’ nowadays. Through this I remembered how they would paint themselves with symbols and wear amulets to imbue them with certain qualities and this is how the concept for the Warrior collection was born. The designs available are all made up of ancient symbols for empowerment, strength, inspiration and positive movement in your life, worked into a modern design to make you look and feel like a total badass!

Where do you see the company going? Do you have any plans to expand further, into different pieces of clothing or even jewellery? I have a lot of big plans for Chyvonne Le Monnier, I want to expand into printed leggings and eventually expand again to sell my more designer 'couture' style pieces alongside a range of printed leggings and tops and maybe at some point collaborate with jewellers to create a jewellery line alongside each collection. I also want to show in pop-up stores at the Alternative and Burlesque Fair, LondonEdge and Clothes Show Live.

What do you hope to achieve this year? I hope people love the summer gear, to want to rock it on their bodies and to bring out a winter collection of printed sweatshirts/hoodies and long sleeved tops.

I Love Crafty!

Sugary sweet and almost good enough to eat, I Love Crafty's adorable hand-crafted creations come packaged with love and care - do you love unicorns and rainbows almost as much as glittery glazed donuts?

How did I Love Crafty start? I started designing as soon as I could draw but it was only 5 years ago that I quit my day job and started working on my childhood dream of working for myself. I didn't make jewellery at first (a late bloomer!) I made bath products and candles from my crafty kitchen, but soon realized that my passion was always in fashion and design and you should do what you're passionate about. Now I’m a experienced, confident designer making original, exclusive jewellery for your fashion pleasure!

Can you talk us through the design process? I have a trusty notebook that I'm always sketching or sticking pics in, that is usually where I start but ideas can come from anywhere! I'm a bit of a hoarder so my home office is stuffed full of kitsch objet d'art, postcards from my favourite holidays and thrift store treasures, so I'm constantly surrounded by inspiring things. I also love to watch films and listen to music while I work – which inevitably influences my jewellery's tone and aesthetic – so sometimes when I start designing it can be a surprise what comes out!

What inspires your pieces? Disney obviously plays a big part! I do love Disney, all things kitsch and nostalgia, that usually influences my work. I'm also a keen gardener and huge fan of flower shows so this year particularly I've been inspired by that, as you can see from my recent collaboration collection “Spring Kittens” with the amazing Pony People. I have a few more flower creations coming so keep your eyes peeled!

What are your favourite things to make? Currently it's kitty pieces from my new “Spring Kittens” collaboration collection.

I've really pushed myself with this collection and I'm so proud of it!

Plus my office looks soon cute with piles of perspex flowers and cats everywhere... Dreamy!

Fashion How does it feel to see how far you've come? I feel very proud and humble. I love working for myself, it's always been my dream and it has taken A LOT of hard work that continues and sometimes feels quite relentless but I wouldn't do anything else! I have a daughter now which has changed the way I work, but I love that I Love Crafty provides for her and means I can have days off and work in the evenings so I can be flexible for her. I'm most proud that I've managed to do that for her!

One thing I loved about your website is how much personality and excitement bubbles through in your “About� section - you can tell you genuinely care about delivering excellent service and being friendly and loving. Is this something that you feel has helped you stand out? I hope so! My customers mean so much to me and I make sure I feel proud and happy with every order I send out to them. It's important that it's something they look forward to receiving and feels like a exciting present when they open it! Every penny I spend on the internet means a lot to me as I work for myself, so when I buy things I want to feel special and like the person making it cares about what they make, that's why I tend only to buy from small brands and artists. When I make and wrap my jewellery I always think, what would I feel if I opened this, excited, special, loved? It's paramount to me that my customers feel as special as they are to me.

We know how much you love glitter! What has been your favourite piece so far? Hmmmm that's a hard one! My favourite pieces change all the time depending on what I'm wearing or how I'm feeling. I'll always have a soft spot for my Mermaid collection as it was my first collection and was inspired by my love of Disney's The Little Mermaid. I'm currently designing some new pieces for the collection which I'm very excited about!

All Eyes OnMAYRuby 2015

So after saying April was quiet, May turned into a explosion!

So I started the month off with a shoot with Shhhh Couture Latex, Photogun photography and Sarah Jane Ellis (mua).

It had been lovely and hot the week before, but as the law of shooting outside dictates it was pretty freezing on the day of shooting, but we still had fun and I love the results – something really different – I hope you do too.

That week I went for a eye test and got told off by the opticians; it had been 10 years since I had my eyes tested and it turned out they had gotten pretty bad. I went to 14 | Rebelicious magazine

the opticians with the intention of getting Lasik (laser eye surgery) as I knew they were awful, but I was sent away with some temp glasses and told to come back in a couple of weeks to see if my eyes had adjusted enough to get the Lasik.

I will follow this story up later...

Also May was the month of the Suicide Girls Ballroom Blitz so I was spending every free moment dancing and rehearsing. I get so nervous about these things as I want them to be so good and exactly how I see them in my mind, I also want to keep the standard up for the Suicide Girls brand, also trying to dance with new glasses is so disorientating!

Friday the 22nd was the night of the SG show; it was a amazing night, great turnout and I can't wait to do the next one and perform. This may sound strange but as soon as I get on the stage all my nerves are gone as I just love performing so much.

I had a amazing shoot with Justine Louise Photography! I had been collecting and putting together a few outfits for a while and in the end we shot a Mad Max inspired look, Clockwork Orange and my fave look of the day was Freddy Krueger, mostly because I started off doing the make up thinking I really couldn’t do what I was aiming for and super surprised myself with the finished result. I made a video blog of this shoot that is now up on YouTube if you want to check out the shoot day! Also at the end of the shoot I had the idea to recreate a shot from the bath scene from Nightmare On Elm Street, so after lots of giggles from myself and Justine about how we would both have to be in the bath and how on earth we were going to balance a glove in the bath and also not expose myself, we both got in! We ended up balancing the glove on a wine bottle full of water to weigh it down, and Justine had to get in the bath with me and get some crazy angle to make it look like the film still, I am super happy with the result, totally worth us both being in the bath and Justine nearly falling in!

I did my new Soft Kitty routine – inspired by the Big Bang Theory – and Lollipop Chainsaw show. Katherine Suicide did an awesome Tank Girl inspired show and also hosted the whole event, plus the lovely Mel Clarke was on the decks with some awesome alt music. I have had some amazing photos and videos back and will be making a vlog soon as my YouTube has gotten a bit behind.

On the Sunday I went to the MCM London Comic Con in my awesome Lollipop Chainsaw cosplay. I had such a great reaction and met some amazing people, I just love seeing all the outfits and creativity, it can be really overwhelming with so much going on.

After the crazy weekend I went back to the opticians to check and see if my eyes had adjusted enough for the Lasik surgery, luckily enough they had and I had the surgery done that week on the Wednesday.

The actual surgery is painless, but the few hours after are agony but then you just feel like you have stuff in your eyes. I have been unable to look at a phone or computer screen for a while; your eyes get super light sensitive but a week after and it feels great, technology really is amazing and I can't wait until it's all fully healed.

Another thing this month and probably one of the most fun things is Periscope; if you haven’t got the app yet get it now you can watch so many random things! I have watched the RuPaul UK drag race auditions, a Baby Godzilla gig and a tonne of Suicide Girls, the Suicide Girls channel is really active with girls from all over the world. I have three time slots on the SG channel Friday night 9pm, Saturday morning 10am and Sunday evening 9pm (all UK times). I have also been broadcasting and chatting on my personal periscope @Ruby_True I am really enjoying it and will probably make a little YouTube mash up of my feeds!

So now I am on healing eyes and getting ready for a Download festival mission!

Bad Girl Banter Claire Seville - May 2015

Hello you beautiful bunch, hope you are all feeling fine.

I’ve had a bit of crazy month, it’s been a whirlwind of votes, shoots, merchandise and meetings but I’ve come out the end of it fairly unscathed.

I started the month with ‘The Hang Out’, which has been one of my favourite shoot-days so far. We had so much fun; the studio was filled with laughter, cake and bubbles! Six amazing ladies were in attendance and they all came with their own fabulous ideas and every single one of them rocked their shoot!

The gorgeous Romanie Smith came for a sleepover and we got to shoot some amazing pieces by the amazingly talented Harriet of Carapace London, which are under wraps for now. We also shot a fabulous new leg wear range for Miss Bella and my new ‘Bad Girl’ necklace which is available in my Etsy shop Bad Girl Booty.

Fetishzine Mag contacted me and asked if I would like to shoot a set for them, how could I refuse? I created something different to my usual style with the super bendy Francesca. I love what we created and I hope to explore this style and lighting more in the future.

The whole month has been super crazy as we have been campaigning for votes for ‘The National Vintage Awards'. The photographer category is full of talent this year and I feel honoured to be alongside such amazing people. Voting is now closed so we have everything crossed and hope I make it through to the final, which is then judged by a panel. If I get through, I get to go to a special event in Cheltenham, so wish me luck!

Finally, I have had two very fun ‘Pint Size Pinups’ shoots this month, which is a new service that I have been offering, especially for the little diva’s that like to play dress up. The images have caused a little controversy as the little girls have

had their hair curled and a little lipstick on.

I personally think that this is absolutely ridiculous, I have a little girl myself and she loves to dress up like me, put my heels on and raid my makeup bag, it’s what little girls do. The people that think it is wrong need to take a long hard look at themselves, really!
