All Eyes On Ruby April 2015

April has been a fairly quiet month for me in the way of shooting and performing, but it has given me the time to work on myself a little bit.

I have also booked myself in to see if I am able to get laser eye surgery as I know I should wear glasses and have ignored it for 10 years, so fingers crossed for that!

I have been doing Yoga for a long time now and recently bought Cleos Rockin Legs and Abs workout to get even more flexible. Sadly for me this reminded me I have an old injury that I have never sorted; I tore my gracilis muscle in my teens and it has just gotten tighter and more sore with time, so I booked myself in for a sports massage. WOW that hurt but in the kind of good way hurt, you know when it feels like it's doing something good? The good news is she said 3 sessions and I should have my flexibility back — splits here we come! Also with this fixed it means I can improve my squat as it was affecting my knee; I have spent years with knee pain so this is great news to me.

I also dug my Bauer Turbo skates out of retirement so going to get some new bearings and yaaaaay fun cardio!

I also picked up my camera again, I wish I had more time and patience for self shooting as I am always getting ideas I want to shoot. A friend of mine (Evelien Cascada) wanted some portraits to show off her new tattoo sleeve so she twisted my arm in to shooting her. I also got inspired by the natural light and shot a couple of self portraits by my window.

I have had one shoot this month and it was awesome make up for there only being one! I shot a warrior Viking theme with Alice Bizarre, Scott Chalmers, Ogre Leather Crafts, Georgia Ginny and Leather Lovers. As the outfits started being unpacked you could hear cries of excitement from me, SKYRIM, VIKINGS ARRRRGH all the things I love - armour and anything that makes a strong female character. I don’t know what it is, as soon as I have it on I feel transformed and really happy. We have something even bigger in the pipeline with 5 models so really excited about this, I totally want to run about the woods with weapons and armour on! I am still doing my weekly Youtube videos, Monthly Horror Block unboxings then random stuff in-between. Since last month I have done my juice detox diary and a Barry M make up haul that included testing out waterproof make up by spraying myself in the face, as you do! I have been rehearsing my shows for Suicide Girls Ballroom Blitz in May... super excited about that and just got the news that the Blackheart Burlesque is returning in September! If you haven’t been to see it go, it's modern, geeky, cute, sexy and highly entertaining. I currently have 3 sets waiting in the queue on SG, the next one out is in two weeks of myself and Dolly Diamond. Hope I get to meet some of you in May at Ballroom Blitz!

Bad Girl Banter

Hello my lovelies hope you’re all fine and dandy and things are great in your world. I must confess, I’ve been a bad tog since my last column; I’ve been spending lots of time having fun and not much time working. But hey you only get one shot at life, so better to make it enjoyable! Last issue I told you about the fund raising I was going to be doing for Comic Relief. We did so well and managed to raise a massive £640 for this fantastic cause, not quite enough to get me covered in beans though (phew!) So proud of everyone that donated and took part, well done. I did a burlesque shoot day, which was ultra glamorous and full of diamonds and feathers. Six wonderful ladies in attendance and they all did an outstanding job at giving me their best showgirl. We went off on our travels Easter; we went to the Snowbombing festival in Austria. Skiing, Snowboarding, Dj’s, Bands, Sun, Snow, Booze and lots of dancing, what’s not to love? The festival was fantastic and set in the most beautiful surroundings, a little village called Mayrhofen, who totally embrace the festival. For me, The Cuban Brothers totally stole the show, they break dance, rap, sing, dj and are absolutely hilarious, I was literally crying with laughter. I also went to a rave in an igloo, which is an experience, such amazing views from the summit too.

‘Plus Sized Wars’ aired on channel 4 and caused a right load of controversy. It featured some plus size bloggers including the lovely Georgina Horne, whom I photographed not so long ago. It was about the fight between plus size fashion brands trying to get the new cool young plus size fashionistas. Overall I think it was pretty well portrayed as an industry, apart from the producers trying to entice a feud between some of the models. I also had beef with the whole ‘promoting obesity’ they tried to suggest, very unnecessary. The ‘Loose Women’ discussed the show and Jamelia came out with the most pathetic small-minded statement ever, “Plus size clothes should not be available on the high street”. She feels that by selling plus size clothes the high street shops are helping promote an unhealthy image.

Give me strength, not everyone plus size is unhealthy, also why should women be treated any different for being plus size?! I’m shocked that someone such as herself would say such a thing being in the public eye. Us women should all be supportive of each other no matter what, and that’s the last I’ll say on the matter. As I right this column it is the eve of my Birthday and I’m going to be celebrating with a lovely tiki party at my tiki bar in the garden. I shall be wearing a beautiful dress that was made for me by ‘Violets In May’. Talking of birthdays, I’d like to wish the lovely Bettie Page a massive Happy Birthday, who would of celebrated hers this week too! That’s me signing off for now and I’ll speak to you all really soon xxx

Pay for a decent portfolio if you want to get decent paid work. Your portfolio is what sells you, so it’s really important you get it right. Rebelicious magazine | 7
