I sing in the choir at Broadmeadow United Methodist Church and our music director Chuck Reynolds reminds us frequently that the beginn ng and end of the song are often the most memorable parts. It is important to start and finish strong! As I reflect on the past year in Fondren, this shared wisdom comes to mind.
We k cked off the year w th the excitement of new additions to the strip ? The Capri, Highball Lanes and The Pearl. Closed since 1986, The Capri roared back to life with fresh turquoise paint, neon lights and a major box office hit ? Spider Man, No Way Home. Restored beautifully to its former glory as a movie theatre, but this time with better food, amenities, style and comfort. The bowling alley at Highball Lanes and our own neighborhood Tiki bar firmly established Fondren as the state?s premiere entertainment district.
Bright spots continue to follow this strong start: ESPN Gameday brought thousands of fans to Fondren as we joined in celebrating the JSU Tigers?incredible season. Fondren LIVE!, Symphony at Sunset and Fondren Unwrapped were back with a full, robust schedule, beautiful night music and the thril of live marching bands.
A garden and bottletree tour attracted a bigger crowd than expected.

Despite these positive notes, we also faced some of the most difficult challenges: a crumbling water infrastructure, persistent crime and blight. There are still unanswered quest ons and uncertainty, but we are reassured that the Fondren team is in the fight demanding accountability from city officials.

We c osed the year strong with the announcement of Fondren Forward: a $400,000 campaign to create a comprehensive community p an to guide future development to improve quality of life for our neighborhoods and business districts. The plan w ll incorporate broad stakeholder input and dentify priorities for infrastructure investment, economic development, zoning and code enhancements and public safety.
Through triumphs and challenges, we are here. We are not leaving or giving up anytime soon - for everyone knows that Fondren is the best place to be!
