A Clear Vision of Your BEST: As you reflect on the journey of your life, it is likely that many, many moments have played a part in shaping how you view your overall self today. Eventually, these become stories that you tell yourself and that become woven into your self-perception. Which stories you hold on to make a difference in how you move forward and in what you leave behind for others to remember. It’s important to let go of the old stories that no longer serve you—just as the leaves drop from the trees each fall, so must the stories of the past. They aren’t a reflection of who you are today, especially the ones that weigh you down with regrets or make you sad. Regrets hold you back and prevent you from looking ahead and moving forward. Letting go makes a difference when you replace the energy you’ve been giving it with new, positive stories that will leave behind a lasting and memorable gift for others. Remember that who you are today is different from who you were in the past. You can create a story with a purpose, a plan, and a reason. Leaving behind what you want for others to remember includes dreaming big and changing the world for the better. What you leave behind is the true purpose of life, and it must be meaningful to you. If writing your story seems out of reach, consider starting with the following: Find your purpose. According to betterup.com, “How to find purpose in life: 12 tips,” one study showed that approximately 25% of adults have a clear sense of purpose in their lives. The article identifies 12 tips to help you discover yours: 1. Develop a growth mindset. Get out of your comfort zone and surround yourself with knowledge and tools that will help you become a better version of yourself. 2. Create a personal vision statement. Identify what’s important to you and what you want to achieve. Doing so will also help you identify your values that serve as guideposts on your purposefinding journey. 3. Give back. Look for ways that you can be of service to others. Service comes in many forms, such as your time, talents, energy, or financial gifts. 4. Practice gratitude.
