When a year has been as tumultuous as this one, it’s tempting to want to move past this year as quickly as possible. However, as we end 2020, we are invited to reflect, not just on the struggle, but also on the victories that emerged. At Realities For Children, we have much to celebrate.

During 2020, the community’s resilience shone like never before. New heroes emerged, teachers pivoted, parents juggled, and though people couldn’t gather together, they still came together.

Realities For Children saw a surge of new giving even in the middle of a pandemic and an economic collapse. Champions stepped up to support our new virtual reality through the purchase of laptops for our children. Our adapted premier events welcomed enthusiastic support raising more funds than ever before!

As we close 2020, Realities For Children will continue to work hard to make sure that our children are set up for a successful 2021. Uncertainty is everywhere but what is certain is that with the support of our community, our children will have hope for a better tomorrow. We would like to invite you to join us this holiday season as we continue to inspire hope in the lives of our children and to reach further in service.

Here’s how you can get involved: NightLights & Giving Tuesday — Throughout the holiday season, Realities For Children will be championing our biggest fundraiser of the year to take children out of the darkness of abuse. We will light our famous blue NightLights tree on Tuesday, December 1 in conjunction with Giving Tuesday.

Santa’s Workshop & Bikes For Tykes — Donate new bikes, new toys, and new winter coats to brighten the holidays for children who have suffered abuse and neglect.

Above and Beyond Donor — An Above and Beyond Donor is an individual or business that commits to a recurring monthly donation of an amount of your choice to become actively involved in bettering the lives of the children we serve.

100% of your donation will go directly to providing our core services for children we serve.

I am grateful for the opportunity to be a Realities For Children Ambassador and advocate for at-risk youth in Northern Colorado. The Realities For Children legacy will benefit future generations impacting the quality of life for my children and grandchildren. By representing Realities For Children among business and faith leaders I am confident a focus on stewardship to reaching at-risk youth in our region will be accomplished. Realities For Children is an excellent way of giving back and investing in our community for the future!

When legacy, future generations, and stewardship come to mind, I am reminded of why I am a financial advisor. At Navigation Wealth Management, my goal is to be a catalyst for good among all people, never losing sight of my client’s goals now and into the future. Just like encouraging at-risk youth, I aim to encourage financial literacy and stewardship enabling individuals and couples to get ahead and accomplish their goals.

Sante Fe Craftsman Recommends Learning Rx Member to Member Testimonial

Realities For Children Business Member, Dianna Criswell of Sante Fe Craftsman speaks to the services offered by fellow RFC Business Member, Mike Winchell of Learning Rx. Mike from Learning Rx is very good at working with children and adults with learning issues. At one of the Realities For Childen Business Member networking luncheons, my husband was lucky enough to sit next to Mike. My husband spoke to him about the therapy he just completed for stroke victims. We were pleased with the progress Bob had made but not satisfied as we felt his memory was only good enough to get by. After talking to Mike, we learned he helped adults as well as children.

Our first session was an evaluation of what Bob remembered, how it affected his day-to-day living, and what he was hoping to achieve. To be honest he had quite a hard time answering

those questions. Through the training from Learning Rx, Bob has achieved most of his goals and he is back to about 95% of normal. The therapy was interrupted by COVID-19 and the plan is to complete a few more sessions and get him back to 100%. Bob is back to helping run Santa Fe Craftsman, making decisions and taking care of the store finances.

I am so thankful for Learning Rx for giving me back my husband of 51 years so we can continue with our dreams for the future.

3Hopeful Hearts Adoption Dreams Come True Alternatives to Violence CASA of Larimer County The Center For Family Outreach

Our mission began locally 6 years ago when Wayne Tesch, the founder of Royal Family KIDS International, came to speak at Timberline church for Orphan Care weekend. His message to serve foster children inspired our congregation to start two weeklong overnight camps for local foster kids, 6-12 years old.

Since then we’ve conducted 8 live camps, 2 virtual camps with a total of 366 camper spots, and over 700 volunteer roles filled. We’ve also established a year-round, one-onone mentoring program focusing primarily on the kids too old to come back to camp.

The Matthews House is impactful because of caring individuals and groups that invest in our youth and families. In 2006, the nonprofit was launched by Founder and former Executive Director, Jerri Schmitz and Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Sara Mitchell. Jerri learned there was a hidden population, largely unserved, of youth and families who could not support themselves.

They didn’t have the knowledge, skills, or resources to be self-sufficient, and had no assistance to make that happen. Since 2006, our mission is to empower youth and families by building trusting relationships and providing resources to disrupt the cycles of poverty and abuse. We have the honor of supporting and helping some of the most vulnerable members of our community in reaching for and achieving their goals to live a safe, stable, and healthy life. Realities For Children, Inc. is an alliance of local businesses whose mission is to provide for the unmet needs of children who have been abused, neglected or are at-risk by uniting local businesses, youth agencies and the community in collaborative and mutually beneficial service.

These businesses support the work of Realities For Children Charities by underwriting the administration of all their programs and services. This support allows the charity to operate without expenses, ensuring 100% of every dollar raised or donated directly benefits northern Colorado children who have been abused, neglected or are at-risk.

Partnered in service with 39 local youth agencies, Realities For Children creates a safety net of services for children when no other resources are available. We provide six core services: • Emergency Funding
