REALITIES FOR CHILDREN
Realities For Children is an alliance of local businesses whose mission is to provide for the unmet needs of children who have been abused, neglected, or are at-risk by uniting local businesses, youth agencies, and the community in collaborative and mutually beneficial service.
The underwriting support of the Business Members allows Realities For Children Charities to operate without expenses. This ensures that 100% of every donation directly benefits programs and services for the children we serve.
Partnered in service with local youth agencies, Realities For Children has created a safety net of services for children in our community who have faced abuse, neglect, or are at-risk.
Realities For Children service model supports children from entry into the system and throughout their healing process. To do so we provide three essential legs of service.
The first leg of service requires we identify and meet the immediate, unmet and emergency needs provided within 60 minutes of a request so that no child in need is forgotten.
The second leg requires effective support services once emergency needs have been met so that the healing process along the path of recovery can begin.
The third leg focuses on provision of services that equip, support and provide resources so that as children emancipate from the system they are empowered to break the cycle of abuse.
Realities For Children provides for the emergency and ongoing support needs of children in Northern Colorado who have been abused, neglected, or are at-risk.

As the current president of the Board of Directors for Realities For Children and Assistant Chief of the Criminal Investigations Division at Fort Collins Police Services (FCPS), I often get a front row seat to some of the most significant events impacting our community. I have been a police officer with FCPS for nearly 30 years, more than half of those years in Investigations, where I have been involved in many abuse and neglect cases of our most vulnerable population –children.
Fortunately, I have also been blessed to have served on the Board of Directors for Realities For Children since 2015 and have had the great fortune of seeing the amazing work and impact Realities For Children has on some of those very same children.

Realities For Children currently has 35 Partner Agencies, whose mission is to provide critical services – both emergency and ongoing, to survivors of abuse and neglect. Realities For Children is not only the framework for the support and healing needed for abused children but is also the glue that holds the Partner Agencies together within the framework.
Because of the generous Business Members in our community who have a shared goal of supporting abused, neglected and at-risk youth by ensuring the continued success of Realities For Children and its Partner Agencies, this incredible work is able to continue. Thank you for patronizing the many businesses who support Realities For Children. Too often, it is easy to avoid thinking about the existence of child abuse and neglect and hope that it never touches ones own life, but I know it does very much exist in our community and it is incumbent upon all of us to work to not only stop the victimization of vulnerable children, but to also support those who have survived it.
Your awareness and commitment to Realities For Children, the Partner Agencies and the Business Members who provide support is a huge step in the right direction.

REALITIES FOR CHILDREN
PINWHEEL

Gala

Celebrating 30 Years of Hope & Healing

On March 29th, 2025, nearly 700 guests gathered at the Embassy Suites Loveland for the 28th annual Realities For Children Pinwheel Gala. It was a powerful evening dedicated to honoring our Triumph Award recipients, a selfless hero in Law Enforcement, our devoted volunteers, foster families, Business Members, and all those who work tirelessly to support children in Northern Colorado.
The evening served as a moving reminder of the compassion that fills a room when a community comes
Triumph Award Winners

together to stand with children who have faced abuse, neglect, or are at risk—showing them they are never alone. Alongside recognizing our Triumph recipients and leaders in the community, we took a brave step forward in the fight against child abuse. During the ‘One Child is Too Many’ light ceremony, attendees united in purpose, raising over $260,000 to fund critical emergency and healing services for local children and families.
This inspiring evening would not have been possible without the incredible
generosity of our sponsors—Blue Federal Credit Union, Lion Home Service, Rowes Flowers, Saunders Construction, RC Events, Thompson River Pediatrics, Blingle!, Elevate 4:14, Embassy Suites Loveland, Layman Lewis, Sprague Roofing & Exteriors, Xtract Environmental Services, Cristiana Salon & Spa, Eagle Rock Colorado, Pedersen Toyota, and SCHEELS—and all our dedicated table sponsors, Business Members, volunteers, donors, supporters, and staff. Thank you for making this night truly unforgettable!

RAISING AWARENESS FOR CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION
Child abuse remains a critical issue that demands our ongoing attention and collective effort. While we focus on raising awareness throughout the year, April—recognized as National Child Abuse Prevention Month— serves as a powerful opportunity to amplify our message. Last month, we dedicated our efforts to educating the community about the urgent need for emergency and healing support for children who have experienced or are at risk of abuse and neglect.
We were fortunate to join forces with a wide range of businesses and community organizations in April for our Pinwheel Promotions and Events. These generous partners offered discounts, special promotions, and donation opportunities that played a vital role in raising both awareness and support for the children we serve. Their involvement made a meaningful impact, and we are sincerely thankful for their dedication to this cause.
To everyone who participated, hosted, and donated during our April outreach—thank you. Your support brings us closer to a future where every child can grow up in a safe, nurturing environment, free from abuse and neglect.
