Historical Artwork
Chainikov
“Autumn Path” 10x12” Oil $5,800 Chainikov (1960-2008) Moscow artist . Graduated Surikov art Institute in Moscow. Member of Moscow union of artists In recent years Chainikov has emerged as Russian Realism’s newest and brightest find. His recent death at the age of 47 is a great loss to Russia, and to the international art world. Chainikov embraced Russian Realism and remained ever true to its spirit. As he explained, “My themes arise on their own, through insight and not from engaging in subtleties..” His landscapes are often filled with human forms. He painted the everyday: peasants, the field workers, the old, and the young. He painted only what matters, only what is real. In the pater years of his life, one could most often find the non-assuming Chainikov at The Academic Dacha, painting Russia’s humblest fold, with the compassion and understanding of an artist who knows only how to paint the truth and the realism of life. Upon completing his training at The Instutitue, Chainikov went to the Russian Academy of Arts, painting alongside two of Russia’s most honored artists, brothers, Alexi and Sergei Tkachev. Gaining admission to the Artist’s “Akademicheskaya Dacha” enabled Tkachevs the opportunity to study the younger Chainikov’s works.

Since 1958 Gladchenko has taken part in art exhibitions working in the genre of Impressionist landscape and had become a well known artist. Boris Gladchenko passed away in 2005. Starting from 1953, he created a series of works dedicated to Siberia. His paintings “Over the Angara”, “At the Angara River Head”, “Siberian Forest” (1957) were awarded the Silver Medal at the exhibition of the World Festival of Youth and Students in Moscow. Alex Petrov
“Yacht Club” C.1949 16x13” Oil $3,000 Born in Leningrad in 1951, Aleksander Petrov was a son of the well-known graphic artists, the Petrovs. As a child he was surrounded by art albums, artwork of his parents and their friends. It is no wonder then, that Aleksandr went to the Art School at the Academy of Arts and later entered the Academy itself where he studied at the workshop of Andrey Mylnikov. In 1975 the artist graduated from the Academy and became a member of the Union of Artists. After graduation he then started to work on orders offered by the collective artistic organization, but the Soviet commission on art exhibitions rejected his works very often. From the mid-seventies, Petrov worked often on his own artistic language and, according to his own words, it took him fifteen years to forget and discard the manner of painting cultivated in him by the Academy. During that period Petrov neither exhibited his artwork officially, nor participated in exhibitions of Leningrad’s underground artists. In the first part of the 1980’s, Petrov finally achieved what he was striving for – he developed a vivid and recognizable style. Paintings by Petrov are full of fantasy but also occasionally contain aggressive characters. These are strange subjects painted in a pastose manner with rich bright colours that strike your eye. Aleksandr Petrov became famous at the beginning of the perestroika period: he exhibited both in Russia and abroad and his works were bought for museums and private collections. The period of Petrov’s most active artistic work was the time between the mid-eighties and the beginning of the 2000’s.
