in 1969. Arvil Freeman, a master and teacher of mountain fiddling, is a relative newcomer to the Stoney Creek Boys, having joined the band in 1993. Guitarist Leonard Hollifield, a prominent Nashville studio musician and former member of the gospel Kingsmen, and banjo player George Banks joined in 1975. Black explained that their music is a mixture of "bluegrass, country, western swing, and mountain folk tunes, because people are all different, and we hope to do something that everyone will enjoy."

Exploring the River Arts District Asheville's River Arts District is a collection of galleries, working artist studios, businesses, a brewery, restaurants, a music venue, performing arts venues, and more. Easily accessible by car from Asheville's downtown and West Asheville, the RAD, as it's called, runs along the French Broad River.
Parking in the district is free and there's a good bit of it. You can park on the street or in designated lots outside of studios. (Do keep an eye out for tow signs in certain areas.) Wear comfortable shoes as most of the district is within walking distance, although you'll find a
car does come in handy to get to some of the outlying studios. Generally the best days of the week to visit are Friday & Saturday. The Stroll is the first, largest, and most walkable tour of working artistsí studios in the region. Open studios are scattered throughout 19 historic buildings along the French Broad River. There are artistsí demonstrations and hands-on activities throughout the weekend. Bring the kiddos.
