It is just one of those things that savvy people keep track of - much like the stock market. This must be because for most people their home is their biggest investment. Mark Roth recently wrote an article published by Business Week "If you don't buy a home now you're either stupid or your broke".

He makes good points about really taking a deep look at interest rate trends and home price trends. This includes the fact that we are at the average interest rate of around 5%. Over the last 40 years interest rates have typically ranged between 7 and 18%.
