The way your skin looks and feels today, has everything to do with the way you treat your skin the night before.Looking amazing the morning after is more important than you think. Beauty has social implications and the appearance of the face has become one of the most important visual implements in our society. If your skin is puffy, damaged, stressed or unhealthy, your appearance will be affected.

The daylight is less forgiving than the night; therefore, plan ahead and beautify your next morning with some quick tips and help from us.

Are you a party person? Have you had a wild, long night?

n Alcohol, cigarettes, caffeinated drinks, sweating, and dry environmental conditions can dehydrate your skin and body. In order to look and feel good the morning after, you’ll need to plan ahead. Drinking a lot of water before going to sleep will hydrate your body and promote overall health and proper skin recovery. n Make a homemade natural peel with kiwi and you will notice a more youthful, radiant skin. If you have very sensitive skin, avoid massaging too much and make sure to wash your face with warm/cold water. Muslin cloths are the best fabrics to remove the dead skin cells. Make sure to keep this cloth clean for every use. n Now that you have naturally detoxed your face, let’s work on those puffy eyes. After a hangover or a long restless night, Green -tea bags work magic around your eyes. They contain antioxidant compounds and caffeine, which will moisturize and reduce puffiness. Keep the warm tea-bags on for 2 to 3 minutes and then wash your face with cold water.

STILL FEELING A LITTLE UNDER THE WEATHER? n Time for makeup! Add a light veil with sun protection, a BB Cream, or a tinted moisturizer before applying your corrector. Avoid using thick foundations. These foundations will give you a caked-on makeup look especially if your skin is still dehydrated. Next, the corrector goes around the eyes and it should be yellow-based to neutralize your dark circles. For more vibrant, well-rested eyes, add a natural tone eyeshadow that has a tint of glow. Add a coat of mascara and keep the liner minimal. Don’t go heavy on the eyes, even when puffiness has gone away. The best way to distract is to go bold on the lips. Red lips is a great choice for a first date. Depending on the outfit, you can even go with pink, peachy, or bright orange shades. Dab a little peachy tone blush on your cheekbones to highlight your skin for a healthier and fresher look.

How do we make the lips look fuller?

As a Make-Up Artist I always get asked this question by clients & models..

I show them all some simple makeup tips that they can also follow to create the illusion of fullness. Here are some of those simple tricks.

Use Concealer First of all you need to lightly apply a good quality concealer to the whole lip area including the outside of the lip line. After applying the concealer you need to blend it well.

Highlight the shape of your lips Next, with the help of a pearl pink or flesh-coloured lip pencil, highlight the area where your upper lip forms a ‘V’ shape, this is called the Cubid’s Bow. Make sure to blend gently with your fingertip to soften. This will give a sexy appeal to your lips and enhance these little peaks.

Use a soft neutral brown lip liner Now use a neutral brown shade lip liner to trace just outside the natural lip line all the way around your lips.

I use Ariane Poole* Automatic Long Lasting Lipliner in Teaberry 036.The new lip line should be slightly larger than your natural lip shape. This little change in the shape will make a big difference to the overall appearance of your lips.

Use a glossy lipstick For fuller lips you need to use the glossy version instead of the matte shades. When choosing a lipstick shade always remember that dark shades will make your lips appear smaller and hence you need to use a lighter or brighter lip colors in creamy or glossy formulations.

Create a shadow Next, depending upon on your skin complexion, apply a small bit of either taupe or dark brown eye pencil just below the centre of your lower lip line and blend it well with a clean smudge brush. This will help to create a shadow which will help to highlight the

new shape of your lips.

Apply a gloss Finally, you can finish your lip make-up by slightly applying a light pearly gloss onto the centre of your lips rather than on the entire lip. This is a kind of trick that helps to reflect light on your lips to create the illusion of fullness.

What type of mascara wand is best to use for lengthening the lashes?

What about for adding volume?

If eyes are the window to the soul, you’ll definitely want to frame your peepers with lush, long and voluminous lashes. With the right lengthening mascara, long and flirty lashes can be yours in as few as two coats.

For sexy, longer than long lashes that look like you called in the help of a professional for salon extensions, look for a ‘cone-shaped’ mascara brush that reaches every lash. NARS Larger than Life Lengthening Mascara is great to achieve this look, because the brush coaxed even the outer lashes to reach their longest potential. The formula contains nylon fiber to grab lashes for length and separation, with no clumps.

For volume its best to go with a longer, bigger & curved mascara wand, this will help to coat the whole of the lashes and add extra layers to create the illusion of thicker lashes with lots of va-va voom. I would use Maybelline Falsies Volume Express Mascara to create this look.

How can we get a contoured effect without overzealous shading?

If you’re choosing individual colors, they will need to be visible to have an effect, but will also need to blend properly with your skin tone and base makeup. Don’t use blush to shade as it can make you look gaunt.

Unless you want a gaunt look, blush is for adding a bloom of fresh color only.

As a rule, use a foundation or powder

slightly darker than your usual color for contouring the face.

Ivory skin tones need a soft pink for blush and light beige for shading one or two shades darker than your usual foundation.

Pink skin tones need a warm peach for blush and again light beige for shading a bit darker than your usual base.

Yellow skin tones need a peachy/coral blush and a honey color for shading Dark olive and dark skins can use a tawny or fudge colored blush and a bronze color for shading.

Blush Apply blusher in the usual way to emphasize your cheekbones (or look as if you have some) by applying to the apple of the cheeks ready for blending.

Shading Colour Apply your shading color in foundation or powder just under the blush in the natural hollows. (Suck in your cheeks to find them). Don’t apply all the way to the hairline or too low towards the jaw.

Blend and Blend Again Now you have patches of color on your face and you will be looking quite strange. Blend the blush towards the temple and slightly into the shaded area. Blend the darker shaded area into the rest of your base (not into the blush area) and then blend again to avoid looking like you have smudges of dirt on your face. Be very careful to avoid “tide marks”. This will take some practice before you go out in public!

Add Highlight Highlight the top of the cheekbones just above the blusher with a small amount of highlighter. Blend carefully again.

Balance the Effect You may need to balance the look with a touch of the darker shade at the temple (also at the jaw line if you have a square shaped face with broad jaw area or a round shaped face).

How can we make the lipstick last longer?

Once you have fuller lips, the next thing to focus on is to make your lipstick stay for longer hours. For this you need to follow some simple tips such as: • Apply powder to your lips before applying your lipstick.

• After applying one coat of color, blot with a tissue and then apply a second.

• Use a lip liner pencil on the whole lip first, and then apply your lipstick over top. This will also intensify the color of your Lipstick.

How can we make our eyes look wider? What about making them bigger or smaller? Is there a make-up trick that could help?

Every Make-Up Bag should have a White Eye Pencil, Used correctly this will help your eyes look brighter and bigger. To open up your eyes, simply line the inner rim of your eyes using a soft cream in color or white kohl pencil, I like New CID i – open, which is double-ended cream eyeliner used for widening and brightening eyes.

Next , it is time to apply some eye shadow. For creating the illusion of a bigger eye you need to apply a light color eye shadow on the base of your eyelid and a darker color at the crease. Just a small amount of neutral eye shadow in a light shade such as vanilla, taupe and bone colors can do the magic. Apply such a pale eye shadow over the entire lid, all the way from your eyelashes to your eyebrows. This will help to define your eyes. Next apply a dark eye shadow in matte brown or grey shade to the crease. Use your finger to blend the color up towards your eyebrow in order to give some depth. Avoid using the same color eye shadow as your eye.

Now it is time to use some eyeliner. If you wish to make your eyes look bigger never use a thick line of eyeliner all around your eyes. It is better to apply a thin line of eyeliner focusing on the natural shape of the eye. Emphasize more to the outer corners of your eyes in order to make them appear bigger in shape, using a winged ‘cat eye’ effect.

When it comes to applying eye make-up to make your eyes look wider and bigger, then you simply cannot ignore your eye brows. It is very essential to keep your eye brows well groomed and in proper shape so they look nice and neat and in place.

Give them a nice arched shape taking away any stray hairs from under the brow line.

This will give more space to your eyelid, thus making your eyes look bigger. You can shape your brows using different techniques such as tweezing, waxing or threading. It is also important to color your eye brows with the help of a brow shadow using an angled brush or pencil.

For wider looking eye make-up, it is important to curl the eye lashes too. This must be done before applying any kind of eye makeup. Use a good quality eyelash curler to curl your eyelashes. Properly curled eye lashes will make the shape of your eyes appear bigger. In case you have short eyelashes, then you can always opt for false eyelashes which are very easy to use.

As an option, highlight the outside of the eye liner with a light cream eye liner.

You can also pale out your lips so all attention is focused on your eyes.

How does permanent make-up work?

Have you ever considered the benefits of permanent make-up, for yourself or for someone else, and wondered, “What does this process entail? What does it take to achieve the perfection you desire..?!

Intradermal pigmentation is a revolutionary method of placing natural mineral based pigments into the dermal layer of skin. This state of the art technique is medically proven to be safe. Intradermal pigmentation is used for a variety of permanent cosmetic enhancements such as eyebrows, eyeliner, eye shadow and lip color.

Although the industry calls it permanent, the cosmetic pigment is made of all natural minerals and it does fade over time, especially with prolonged sun exposure. Certain products and medications, such as glycolic or RetinA can also cause premature fading of the tattoos. It is best to avoid these products around your make-up area, and wear SPF (even in the winter!) to protect your skin and your time and money spent on beautifying yourself.

Color boosting your make-up every 1 to 7 years is the best way to keep your fresh, youthful color. Every person’s skin is unique, as will be your make up. You don’t have to keep up with the maintenance if you feel you no longer care for the enhanced look. It will not turn blue or black. It will simply fade over time, eventually leaving no trace.

Glitter or no glitter?

Glitter is a fun way of glitzing up your make-up look, but less is defiantly more when it comes to Glitter…And if you’re more of a mature lady, I would stay away from glitter all together. It will sit in the creases and make you appear older. But worn in the right way there are a lot of glitters on the market these days bringing finer Micra Particles in Eye shadows which shimmer & shine just like glitter but is a lot less harsh on the eyes. I would jazz up an evening look with a splash of glitter eye-shadow on the centers of the eyelids to make the eyes really pop. I would use a cream shadow underneath before I apply the glitter shadow so it

stays put all night.

What color foundation suits Asian skin tones? Is the yellow undertone always safer?

Choose a blush colour that is close to the color of your cheeks after you’ve exercised. Hence the expression a ‘Flush’ of color on your cheeks..;-)

As I’m sure you all know, finding the correct shade of foundation for Asian women is not easy. Most make-up lines carry tones in pink. On Asian skin, this creates a mask effect. Look for foundations that have a yellow or slight olive undertone for pale light to dark skin. Nars and Cover Fx are great lines that cater to Asian women and yellow undertones in makeup. Here’s a few of their foundation shades for Asian woman: NARS Balanced Foundation Barcelona (tanned, olive and Asian complexions with golden yellow tones) Fiji (medium complexions with golden yellow undertones) Budapest (light to medium olive complexions) Use a make up primer, and then follow with a light dusting of powder. As a Make-up artist I would always use this product to create a perfect canvas for foundation application, it can also be wonderful in correcting undertones in the skin. Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer is silky soft and comes in an array of tones from clear to apricot, perfect for yellow undertones.

What’s the key to buying products for the natural look?

Understand that a ‘natural’ look is one that uses colors that are right for your skin tone. How much you use, and where, depends on your personal style.

Make sure your concealer is yellow in tone since it mutes imperfections without adding color, giving your skin a natural look.

Apply foundation that matches your skin tone. The right foundation will seem to disappear on your face. If you are African-American, it’s a good idea to have light, medium and dark shades of your foundation to allow for different gradations of colour on different parts of your face.

Apply eye make-up in earthy tones, beige, brown, gold or plum for shadows and brown and charcoal gray for liner and mascara. Skip liner or shadow entirely if you want to keep makeup light.

How does it feel to be such a successful make-up artist?

I didn’t realize I was so successful, I just love doing the make-up and hairstyling.

It‘s very rewarding to see the results on the customers; it makes me very happy to know they enjoy my work as much as I do.

TIPS

How can we make a foundation last longer?

I don‘t do anything special to make foundation last longer, I just use a primer, HD foundation, or HD waterproof foundation.

ABOUT INGA What are your plans for the future?

Do you have any specific projects that you`d like to talk about with us?

For me it was never hard work because everything I do is filled with love. It does not feel like work to me because it is something I enjoy and is a passion of mine.

When it comes to older skin, is glow always better and which foundation would you recommend?

I don‘t use any glow eye shadow, glow make-up, or glow highlighter for older skin. I use all matte colors because I think it makes the skin look more natural and not show as many wrinkles. I usually use a full coverage foundation to hide any blemishes.

Where should we apply highlighter?

I apply highlighter high on the cheekbones, in the “T”-zone, and in the middle of the chin.

What are the best products for making the eyes pop?

There are so many tricks that I like to use to make the eyes pop. Here are a few I like to use- black gel eyeliner with brown eye shadows and the smoky eye look; I like this the most.

Placing the kohl pencil in warm water prior to applying in on would help create a smudgy look. Is that a true fact or a myth?

For me, this practice is a myth. I just use different pencils and have no problem creating the smudgy look if necessary.

How do we pick the right eye-brow pencil? What color should we use for black brows, blonde brows, dark brown brows, mid-brown brows or dark blonde brows?

I don‘t really look at the real color of eye brows. For me it‘s more important to look at the hair and skin color to find the best match. For the dark skin tones and hair I recommend the black eye brow pencil. For blonde and light skin tones I recommend light brown pencil with a little gray mixed in. For dark hair and light skin tones I recommend dark brown pencil mixed with gray.

Knowing that you`re a make-up expert, we`d like to ask your professional help on some every-day issues: How can we be more adventurous with our make-up? Are there any specific eye-shadow shades that flatter more?

I am working with a lot of make-up companies with different styles. Everyone is different so it is hard to say which would be the most flattering. I recommend just be willing to experiment with different shades and colors to find what is right and what works for you. I usually work with brands: Make up forever“, Make up “Atelier”, “Mac” , “Kryolan”, “Illasmasqua”.

Which eye-shadow colors work best on dark skin? What about on pale skin?

When choosing eye shadow for dark skin I pick glow make-up, bronze, gold, and all dark shades- brown and black. For light /pale skin it depends on what you are trying to achieve- a high fashion look or a more natural look will determine the colors.

Would you say that this is an easy job or a difficult one?

For me it was never hard work because everything I do is filled with love. It does not feel like work to me because it is something I enjoy and is a passion of mine.

Since you`ve been in this industry, is there anything that you wish you`ve done or didn`t do?

I wish I would have started working in the make-up industry sooner in my life. I really like what I do so I am always looking for classes and seminars to improve my techniques and broaden my knowledge. I enjoy working as a make-up artist so much. I am very glad I have found this as a career.

Since you`ve been in this industry, is there anything that you wish you`ve done or didn`t do?

Be sure when you enter the industry you love doing this and it makes you happy. Be willing to try new things, be creative, and I wish you the best on your journey in the make-up world.

The most important thing to know is what color your eyes are and what colors are inside the eye. For example blue eyes may have hints of gray or green. You have to look closely at the colors in your eye and use colors that are opposite of the color to better play up your eyes.

he story is pretty simple. I was born and raised in Frankfurt and even after leaving this city for a couple of years, I always found the way back to the place I call “home.” Actually, this project is part of my way to say thank you to the city of Frankfurt for all the memories I am allowed to keep. For all the good and the bad times, for all the places I`ve been to, and for all the people I met. During my younger years, I saw many people that have been somewhat a part of my life, even with distance. Some of them are actors, musicians, and comedy artists. Some of them are owners of a Hot Dog stand in downtown where I`ve go at least three times a week to get the best Hot Dog in town. These are the people I would call, “the real Frankfurt;” and all of them have stories that you could see in their faces. My plan is to run this until the end of 2013 and get 99 people in front of my camera to portrait their faces and let them tell you their story within one single frame. Some of them you may know, as they are pretty famous. A few of them I have found on the streets of this lovely city and convinced them to join me on this journey. At this point, I want to let you know that I don`t accept applications to this project. Please allow me to find the people I want to see in my project either straight out of my brain or through personal contact on the streets of Frankfurt. I have thought about this project for a couple of years and each time I was close to starting, something happens around me which became my showstopper. I run from one reschedule to another and had no chance to do what I wanted most.

HANS ROMANOV Nightlife personality

Hans Romanov is really important to Frankfurt. Without him, many fancy areas of Frankfurt wouldn`t have ever been seen. He`s a cult gastronome and I can honestly say that without him we might have had less nightlife fun in Frankfurt. He opened a location and closed them down faster than anyone could even think about opening one. His parties were legendary and his locations have been up and running from one day to many years depending on the fun level Hans gathered during this time. The funny thing: He`s not born in Frankfurt. He was raised in Berlin and came to Frankfurt as a young man and never planned to stay long. stopped with the bloody rescheduling and I ran forward to get my plans done before I die one day. A few people asked me why the hell I am doing it. To be really honest with you, I can`t really tell you. Many others would start out by telling you a very art-related story with a lot of blah blah blah; but that isn`t me and the real honest answer is that I don`t really know why exactly. Maybe it is part of my gratefulness to this city as I had so many moments (good & bad) here which made me who I am today. Maybe it is just the vision; to give you an insight to this city. Or maybe it is just a way to communicate … I can`t really tell you. I do really hope I have answers after I finish this project at

RAW. But to be honest, there are a few other commercial projects running beside my personal work; so I had to focus on that for the moment. But now, I’m back and really happy as Dragoslav Stepanovic joined my project recently. For those of you who may not know him: Dragoslav “Stepi” Stepanovic is a former soccer star. He played, of course, for the national team of former Yugoslavia and for the best ex-Yougoslavien teams. He moved 1976 to germany and played for Eintracht Frankfurt and later in his career for Manchaster City in UK. But what he really got famous for is his time as coach of Eintracht Frankfurt; a german 1st League Soccer Team. Because of his very strong personality and of course his serbo/hessisch slang, he became unfogettable.

He formed the phrase, “Lebbe geht weida,” which means, “life goes on.” Probably sounds funny to German speaking folks, but believe me: it is. Stepi spent a huge part of his life in Frankfurt and even had some coaching jobs outside of Germany, but he always found his way back to Frankfurt. The funny story behind this is that I knew him during his time as the coach of Eintracht Frankfurt. My Dad and Stepi knew each other and during those years, Stepi owned a pub in Frankfurt. I remember a story where my mother asked my dad and I to go shopping on a Saturday.

Unfortunately, in the area where Stepi had his pub. So what happened is simple: my dad decided to go to Stepis Pub, say hello and get one (just one) beer. I guess it is not necessary to tell you that we didn`t go shopping anymore. We came back late night, my mother got huffish and we got no food for the weekend. I was very young, but I still remember it well. Funny, but to be honest, I am really proud Stepi joined me on this project because aside all his former work, his heart beats in Frankfurt and I am sure he will never be forgotten.

It must have been in the late 80s when I heard of Jo van Nelsen for the first time. At that time, he had a project with “Culture Beat” and performed a song with the lovely german name, “Erdbeermund.” Even if it wasn`t the time for dancefloor hits (I am more the metal fan), I loved his voice. The funny thing is that exactly in the late 80s there was a bar called “Erdbeermund” in Frankfurt. In the late 80s Frankfurt wasn`t a good place to be for nightlife; and therefore, the bar “Erdbeermund” was the final place to go after 3am. This was exactly the place when I first heard about Jo van Nelsen and his “Erdbeermund.” But back to Jo; aside from his voice, which grabbed my attention; he is a stage director, chanson singer and actor.

2. How long have you been doing comedy? When was the first time you realized you were funny?

September 2013 marks my 10th year of doing standup. No fanfare, please. I think my foray into comedy was different than most comics. I wasn’t really much of a talker growing up. I had severe speech impediments, vocal constriction, a lateral lisp. As a result, I think most of my communication took on physical shapes -- sort of a dumb kid, white trash sign language I guess. During high school, I realized my body could do weird, acrobatic, and sometimes grotesque things and I could get laughs from that. That’s right, I tripped over shit for attention.

There was an open mike down on Houston street in Manhattan, so I went down there with him on a whim. I didn’t have my ID so the bartender wouldn’t let me in. Jeff was so adamant I do it that he gave me $30 to cab to my place, grab my ID, and come back. I did, put my name in a hat, and went up and did a spectacular 3 minute set. Well, it was

Wow, that’s a doozy. There aren’t a lot of movies that I can watch over and over again. Some of the ones I loved as a kid are dated now -- the only thing that gets more dated than comedy is organic mayonaisse.

3. What is your comedic style?

I like to think I’m still discovering it.

One of my best friends in comedy, Joe DeRosa, comes from a very dark and irritable place. I love watching him, but the same time I recognize it’s not my style of comedy. I’m sort of a Buddhist (not a joke) so I don’t live in a state of aggravation.

Making a 5 minute bit about how annoying Whole Foods is is awesome in theory, but I don’t really give a shit.

It would be disingenuous of me to be a grumpy comic like Marc Maron and talk about suicide or depression. I love to do physical comedy and silly stuff, but I also try to speak to deeper truths about loneliness,

spectacular in how terribly unfunny and uninspired it was. My first time I tried “crowd work.”

I flailed around trying to be Dane Cook or something. I bombed terribly and my friend Jeff consoled me. I realized two things then: a) bombing isn’t so

7. What would you be doing if you didn’t become a comedian?

I got a degree in Aerospace Engineering from Princeton University and applied to jobs both at NASA and Wall Street. I would have probably been on Wall Street, got burnt out, and ended up teaching yoga in Costa Rica or something. Still wouldn’t mind teaching yoga in Costa Rica.

I’m STILL an actor and am preparing to play Mickey Mantle on Broadway, but I most identify myself as a comic, since acting is basically just saying words out of your mouth that someone else has written. Relaaaax actors, it’s not that fucking hard.

8. Best experience of your life.

Again, I’ll probably think about it 2 days from now. One of them has to be when I went to Iraq for the USO with Jamie Kennedy and Paul Wall. Performing for 8,000 troops in Baghdad and seeing how much it meant to them was pretty unbelievable.

Being on the tour bus for the “I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell” movie premieres was also amazing because I got to go out every day on the street and fuck with people. That’s a dream job (know anyone casting for that?)

9. Now, tell you your most embarrassing moment?

I haven’t been embarrassed since 1987. Let’s be honest, nothing is more embarrassing than shitting your pants when you’re in 7th grade. I think I live in such a constant state of embarrassment that my most embarrassing moments, in retrospect, are the funniest moments.

When it comes to hitting on women and/or getting rejected by women, I

think there needs to be another word far beyond “embarrassing” to cover my stupidity. Hitting on a girl and THEN shitting my pants in front of her might embarrass me.

10. What’s your favorite one-liner joke?

I used to do drugs. I still do, but I used to too.

11. Any comedians that have inspired you?

Since my foray into comedy was physical, my greatest influences have to be Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin, and Bill Irwin. Beyond that, Richard Pryor, Jim Carrey, and Dane Cook. Now that I’m deeper in, I’m blown away by Patton Oswalt, Daniel Tosh, and Louis CK. 12. Give us a glimpse of what a day on the job is like for you?

First part is the hardest part: I wake up at the crack of noon. If I get

There’s really only two bits of advice that are worth a damn, in my book.

First of all, get onstage. Preparing and writing and watching doesn’t mean shit if you don’t get onstage.

You will learn more from 5 minutes onstage than you will from 5 months of watching, reading, and taking classes. After that, get onstage again. Then again. Lather, rinse, repeat. Once you’re set on making this silly thing a substantial part of your life, then your job is to become a beautiful narcissist. And by that I mean, focus on YOUR shit, YOUR jokes, YOUR point of view. Don’t pay attention and don’t care about what other people are doing. There are a lot of fucked up people doing standup, and fucked up people want to drag you down into the spiraling abyss of their darkness. Don’t do it.

the years, people have accused me of stealing jokes, people have told me about dozens of other people allegedly stealing my jokes, people have tried to enlist me in shit talking about other comics, people have tried to enlist me in their coke and drugs and women.

Screw that. Focus on yourself. Be a beautiful narcissist. Standup comedian is one of the few professions where co-workers quite literally have NOTHING to do with you. Be a beautiful narcissist.

Beauty is skin deep Catalina: How would we know if our gut is not working properly?

LB: When the gut is not working properly you might experience anything from constipation to diarrhea, heartburn, bloating, irritable bowel syndrome, the list goes on. Other symptoms include chronic fatigue, premature aging, joint and muscle pain, insomnia, eczema, acne, and asthma, and also unexplained weight gain or loss. This isn’t a pleasant list of things to be suffering with so you can see just how important it is to have a healthy gut!

Catalina Magee: It’s often said “You are what you eat” and beauty has it’s social implications, so tell us Larry how do we achieve radiant skin and shiny hair?

Larry Bensusan: The easy answer I could give you would be to take lots of vitamins and minerals and eat certain foods, then all your skin and hair nightmares would go away! I wish it were that easy. But unfortunately, it’s not! The first thing you need to understand is that around 70% of your immune system is linked to your digestive system. I must admit when I learnt this I nearly fell off my chair screaming, “why have I never been told such an important thing?” Why do most doctors never tell us; when we go to them complaining of feeling ill, that it could be we have problems with our digestive system?

Catalina: OK, so a healthy digestive system is obviously very important!

Tell me more?

LB: In the gastrointestinal tract (gut) live both good and bad “gut flora” (bacteria). To stay healthy our bodies need to have more good bacteria than bad bacteria. Unfortunately an increase in bad bacteria can occur when we are stressed, eating packaged and processed foods, eating fast foods, consuming sugar, drinking too much alcohol and overindulging generally. Bad bacteria feed on sugars and fats, which are prolific with this type of diet. Also, antibiotics are so good at killing bacteria that they can often disrupt the overall gut flora balance by reducing the good bacteria which are so important for a healthy gut and a strong immune system.

INTERVIEW WITH LARRY BENSUSAN

In this interview with nutritionist Larry Bensusan, we will find out how to eat our way to beautiful skin, body and mind. In order to starve our wrinkles, we need to know how to feed our bodies.

Having beautiful skin is a very important trait in our society.

The face has evolved to become one of the most important visual communication tools, with thirty or more muscles controlling facial expressions alone. A healthy, toned body is a also an important component of an individual`s physical appearance. Here we will discuss ways to look younger and to achieve a healthy body through diet.

Catalina: So for anyone who thinks they might have a dysfunctional gut, what do they do now?

Larry: The solution is simple; take a long hard look at your diet and be CRITICAL! Ask yourself “Am I really eating a healthy, balanced diet?” For instance, eating a good healthy breakfast is probably the most important meal of the day.

This is because nutrients have not entered the body since the last time you ate which could be ten hours or more. You are about to start your day of activity (with perhaps a visit to the gym?) and the body needs energy not just a mug of coffee!

During your day it is very important that you eat regularly and always eat a minimum of 5 different fruit and vegetables, which will help you to get a balance of vitamins and minerals. Choose high quality, fresh organic food whenever possible and raw food has it’s own digestive enzyme, which is important for a healing body. Eat live natural yogurt as it contains good bacteria and it will help balance the gut. Also, cultured vegetables, like sauerkraut, fermented turnips, carrots, eggplant and radishes can contain “probiotics” and hence provide digestive and immune support.

Probiotics are live good bacteria that have a beneficial effect on our gut. Taking a good quality probiotic supplement, daily, is a fabulous way towards a healthy gut (but check with your doctor first if you have any existing medical issues).

Catalina: OK. Once we have a healthy gut will we experience better health? Is it that easy?

Larry: Yes of course… It’s basically that easy! The first thing you’ll notice will be more settled and regular bowel movements. In the long term, your skin complexion will improve, becoming more youthful and radiant; nails will be stronger, gums healthier and you will have strong, shiny hair. More importantly your immune system will be stronger and you will enjoy much better health with far fewer colds and sniffles during the year.

Catalina: You mentioned earlier that by sorting out our gut flora, it will lead to weight loss? How is that possible?

Larry: Simply put; healthy gut flora leads to a balanced gut, which in turn allows the B vitamins necessary in the metabolism (break down) of food to do their job effectively. If everything is working as it should be the body processes what we eat and drink and takes from it only what it needs to function and stay healthy and doesn’t store any sugars as fat. When the gut is unbalanced or put into “shock / survival” mode through irregular meals or not enough food intake, that is when the body stores as much fat as possible.

By skipping meals you will actually gain weight in the long term as the body doesn’t have any concept of a full fridge and “I’ll grab something later!” so stores far more fat than it needs to.

There is evidence to show that obese individuals often have dysfunctional gut flora we are not completely sure why but it has been proven that good bacteria will produce enzymes to enhance digestion and also synthesize the B vitamins.

Catalina: You mentioned B Vitamins.

Are they important?

Larry: Very important! If the B vitamins are not functioning properly (due to bad gut flora) then symptoms of ill-health will begin to show such as fatigue and feeling irritable.

Good gut flora plays a part in synthesizing the following B vitamins: pantothenic acid (B5), which is involved in protein, fat and carbohydrate metabolism; B6 which helps to release energy and is required for the normal function of our nervous system; folate (B9) is necessary for proper brain function, growth and reproductive cells. It is also vital for the healthy development of babies in utero. Lastly biotin (B7) helps the body to process and utilise glucose, as well as promoting healthy hair and nails. Also, without biotin in the diet, the ability of the body to break down fatty foods is impaired.

Therefore you can see that if biotin and the other B vitamins do not being synthesized properly in the gut then perhaps it would be difficult to lose weight.

Catalina: Ok, I can see that from what you have said that beauty is more than skin deep; it starts with getting your immune system sorted Larry: Absolutely. We are bombarded with advertising information from manufactures of beauty and health products on their “proven” benefits and although some may be good, unless we sort out our digestive system and consequently our immune system, then our overall health will continue to suffer. We all love using creams to help get rid of wrinkles, that cream you stop aging, this conditioner to stop your hair from thinning, that nail polish to strengthen nails.

We always look for that easy fix instead of looking within for why we have these problems in the first place. My advice is to start to take control of your own health by sorting out your gut problems and you will be amazed how your skin and body will be healthier, you will have a clearer mind and you’ll feel GOOD. Catalina: Do you have one last bit of advice for Trend Prive readers?

Larry: My mother always said to me ‘chew your food’ but she never said why. I have noticed that many people who gulp their food and do not chew properly have trouble with weight. This is possibly because they are not telling their body that food is on the way to the stomach.

These people need to understand that chewing food stimulates saliva, which contains certain enzymes that initiate digestion of dietary starch and protein. Lipid (fat) digestion also begins in the mouth and by swallowing foods without proper chewing you will reduce the ability of important enzymes to be absorbed in the body. So my advice would be to chew your food because it is a vital start to the effective digestion of food. Plus your taste buds are in your mouth so by chewing you get more time to savor your delicious food!

Magazine “I went to school at School of Visual Arts (SVA) to be a designer and at the admissions office thought to place me in the fine art department.

I replied: «No thank you, I would like to make money when I graduate. lol.”

Breuk Iversen

is a Creative Director, an Ad man, Graphic Designer, writer and artist. In the last 18 years, he has taken an entirely innovative approach to design while serving thousands of NYC based companies in both print and new media based (internet) platforms without espousing a ‘house style’ synonymous with other NYC firms.

In 1995, he garnered an award-winning boutique design firm, Disciplined Beauty in his second semester at SVA. By 1999 and upon graduation, receiving his BA with honors at SVA, he had over 150 clients and a fullservice design firm on 5th Avenue where he served as the Creative Director until 2001.

In 2000, he founded 11211 Magazine promoting over 3,000 businesses and the area called Williamsburg | Brooklyn (11211) from 2000-2006. Since 2006, his focus has been on Advertising, Branding, and Communications Design. His development of a system called ‘Neurochemical’ has been adopted by the 4A’s in New York City.

Iversen launched 11211 a four color glossy in Brooklyn and Manhattan intent on promoting the Zip Code. He also published: Fortnight, The Box Map (2002), Appetite, and 10003 in the East Village in NYC. 11211 Magazine had attracted worldwide attention editorializing infamous artists: Terrance Lindall, Rene Iatba, Nick Zedd, Boaz Vaadia and Mike Diana in New York City.

owning a magazine Why did you start the 11211 magazine?

In July, 2000. It was conceived with a couple of friends,drunk on Sangria, at a bar/restaurant, one hot night. Iasked everyone: «What’s the Zip Code here?». No one knew —including me— despite the fact that we all lived there.

The owner had to go up to his office upstairs and get a letter that was mailed to him. <lmao> Then, we knew, 11211. The Sangria there was probably spiked with other substances.

Was there a specific reason?

Yes, there were a few specific reasons. Some of themwere artistic, some idealistic, some financial, some forpassion, some for research. My favorite was to help build up a neighborhood that was very depreciated was struggling with its own identity. It didn’t have one. Williamsburg is so close to Manhattan but, back in those days, it was pretty dangerous. Brooklyn was a dirty name and taboo for many Manhattanites to visit.

The bar/restaurant was on the corner of North 6th street and Berry which was Brooklyn’s version of Chelsea’s meat packing district. I lived in a loft on North 4th right across the street from Vice Magazine. It was the block where the prostitutes hooked and drugs were sold. I moved there because you could get 1,200 square feet, high ceilings for cents on the dollar. It was great, fun and very illegal living there.

How did your magazine`s design process work?

How did your magazine`s design process work?

I spend a great deal of time designing things in 11211 that would be interesting from the beginning to the end. I wanted to do something very REAL with real people and real places and things. All the magazine sections started with the letter «A»; Appetite (restaurants), Audible (music), ARTfART (galleries), Arena (venues),

On July 1, 2011, the United States Postal Service (USPS) changed the 11211 Zip Code due to a «large increase in population and in the number of companies doing business in our area.”

Alcohol (bars), Archive (history), etc...

First, I purposely designed 11211 to end after 36 issues.

Second, was to include every aspect of a neighborhood and do a ‘general interest’ magazine especially for longtime residents. I was born and raised on Brooklyn and it was important to me to do something that was all-inclusive.

I was fortunate enough to be mentored by a man namedDick Raboy, who was close friend of Milton Glaser. Mr. Glaser was my teacher at SVA and back in the day, Dick Raboy helped Glaser and Clay Felker start New York Magazine. Milton told me: “You know, forget about Williamsburg and go to SoHo. At least the business owners there will appreciate your effort. There’s no money in Williamsburg”.

It was true. Glazer was correct to an extent, however, I saw so much potential in Williamsburg whereas SoHo already had its day in the sun.

How long did the prepress process take?

A day or two. We did it digitally, online. The internet was so slow back then. It took three hours to download.

Based on your experience as a Founder and Publisher of such a great magazine, what have you learned?

So much more than I ever expected to.

What I observed in others: 1) People think they get a sense of who you are just because you are a publisher.

2) When you do something they don’t like, they blame you for their dissatisfaction.

3) People become envious of your endeavor and some want to see you fail.

4) They think publishing is much easier than it is.

5) They want want to get on the bandwagon when the going is good. When it isn’t, it’s as if they don’t want to know you.

What I observed in myself: We needed 10 full page advertisers to pay for the print run. We ended up getting one the second year. It was a horror story. So far, Mr Glaser was correct. Williamsburg was synonymous with ‘no money’. I had already went through $52,000 of my own money. In two months I would go through $20,000 more. I was close to having a nervous breakdown.

What are the pros and cons of owning a magazine?

Pros: You get a little prestige but, at what price. There was a time in the 3rd-5th years where I actually had a hard time paying for meals and drinks in Williamsburg because people wanted to have me around. It was a little taste of a celebrity status. It got me laid a lot and upgraded my value and status to an extent.

Cons: When the going is good, it’s good. When it’s not going good, and you need a hand, then you can tell who your real friends are. Once someone gets what they want out of you (an article) they are basically done. Many will do «whatever it takes» for recognition. I understand this now and don’t miss it at all.

Basically, we would print ANY THING in 11211. Some of the article were the raciest stuff available. I suspect we

were testing content and see how far we could go. Vice Magazine would do the same.

What advice can you offer new magazine founders hoping to publish their first magazine?

Don’t. hahaha. No, really, don’t. Everything has gone digital and mobile. This trend will be here forever.

Here’s some facts: It took Radio 38 years to reach an audience of 50M users, TV; 13 years, the Internet; 4 years and Facebook; 2 years.

If you want to publish something, start a Blog that is useful.

Something Useful never goes out of being en vogue. Do something useful to people. It’s not about you, it should be about them.

Did you provide comments when rejecting a submission?

Yes and No. At some point we had so much content, it was overwhelming to keep up. We decided to do an extended Online foreach issue for all additional content that wasn’t advertorial driven. «Advertorials» were article that were paid for by the businesses however, the writers could write what they wanted and that was that. We are protected by the First Amendment.

Taking care of our advertisers was always priority and first on the agenda. The people, places and things that I loved and were useful were next and finally, whatever else we had room to print would go last.

What was your marketing budget and how did you get noticed by the advertisers with ad spends?

Hahaha. We didn’t. Everything was work. No one comes to you with ad dollars and when they do it is very brief, a test, and generally not a long-term thing.

They have the same problem at Advanced and Hearst Publications. All magazines and newspapers have large sales departments. Without them, they would all cease to exist.

We got noticed by local businesses because we distributed issues at their locations. If we waited for them to call us, we would have never survived for 6 years.

You want to have great pictures.

Can you give us any printing tips for new publishers?

Yes. Don’t print anything until you have 10 more advertisers than you need to break even. Make a list of your costs and do it for the love of it. There is no real money to be made in publishing. If I was were not a designer and getting tons of other business through this skill set, 11211 would have never survived past the first year.

How many magazines do you read a month and which one is your favorite?

None. I dislike magazines in general. I’m happy to share the reasons why. A good magazine is a type of tribal thing. It is designed for a specific audience and group and it is meant to do a certain thing like sell your advertisers products and services. A magazine is considered a luxury item in culture. You really don’t need it to survive and you can’t even use it for wrapping up glasses and delicate valuable when you pack up and move your home. The type of voice that speaks to your readership gives them a sense of «belonging» and helps readers define their own identity.

This is exactly how it is in America. This is what makes magazine useful. It’s basically sound bytes and nuggets of information that is useful but, often never long-lasting.

I haven’t watched or owned a TV is 19 years. The media in American is absolutely dreadful. It’s propagated information designed to influence consumerism and spending.

After WWII Germans gave the name «Propaganda» an bad name. Today in the US, these same techniques are called «Public Relations». These two are exactly the same thing.

The subversive mission of 11211 magazine was to expose this idea to an influential group of artist and writers in Wil-

liamsburg. I know for sure this worked in there from 20002006. I don’t know if this matters much today but, this idea was something I was quite passionate about, still to this day.

What`s your favorite format for reading magazines (print, tablet/iPad, PDF/ digital flipbook) and why?

I like Facebook on mobile or computer. Facebook is real and goes into the deeper meaning of what it means to be human. I can see people’s information, who and what they like, are thinking and this makes me a better Advertising, Branding, Communications expert and Designer. I’ve been on Facebook from 2007. It used to be so much more amazing back then.

If you were to do it all over again, what would you change?

I bounce back and forth with this quite often. For some years, I truly regretted it. Like I mentioned earlier, Williamsburg was a tough part of Brooklyn. It was the dregs and a living cesspool of Brooklyn.

Because of 11211, there were street closings, bomb scares outside of Peter Luger’s and HSBC bank, Church gatherings to protest and shut down the magazine, organizations were formed, Community Board #1 wanted us gone. I was held at gunpoint a couple of times, choked, punched, sued in court, beaten, stabbed once and even had people breaking into the magazine headquarters a couple of times. It was some of the most challenging days of my life in one of the most challenging areas in Brooklyn. In 2012, six years after I closed 11211 Magazine, I spent a solid month researching hundreds of websites to see if 11211 had an impact on the development of Williamsburg. It did.

I can honestly say, beyond any shadow of a doubt, that I did more for developing Williamsburg than anyone else alive.

It would be nice to find someone to challenge me on this.

I can wait. :) I may dare say that the reason Brooklyn went from 2.3 million tourist in 2000 to 15 million tourist in 2010 is because I helped develop and expose the «Cool» Brooklyn (Williamsburg) as entry point but, let me not get grand with you. :D What is one question regarding owning a magazine do you wish I’d asked that I didn’t? And how would you answer it?

Quite a few questions come to mind but, I’ll pick two.

1- What’s with this editing policy?

11211 had a no editing policy. We printed first drafts with typos and everything. I told artists (photo and illustrators): «Do whatever you want to do. I will print it.» I know this would allow them to do their best work.

I told writers the word count and «Write whatever you want to write. The one thing I ask is if you are going to complain about a person place or thing YOU MUST provide a solution and say what you think could’ve been done better.»

The reasons for this is a) Criticism is too abundant here in America.

2- What is this Neurochemical thing?

Since 2007, I wanted to improve my advertising, branding, and communication design talents. 11211 gave me an inside peek as to the cause and effect, motivations and emotional decision making process of people was psychologically and sociologically.

How neuroscience is applied to design, advertising and branding in communications is something that is still grossly overlooked and underutilized in business today.

I’ve spent the last five years mastering this into a scientific and mathematical formula called Neurochemical. It’s a lot of research. This gives me the power to predict what a business’s product or service will do and for how long it will take. It also tells me why they are where they are and what they can be doing better.

In April 2013, the CEO from the 4A’s iLab called me personally and asked me to be a participant and speaker in their «think tank». I will be training Advertising professionals at some of the biggest and best ad agencies in the US. Advertising and Branding, in general, are two of the greatest contributions America has given to the world. It also has it’s evil side for profit and corporate gain.

There has been enough data that’s been collected over the last 100 years of American Advertising to support the ‘neurochemical’ data and idea. I will NOT allow this to get into the hands of Big Box Businesses. I won’t help sell, cigarettes, GMO foods and products, or anything else that is dangerous and harmful to my fellow man (or woman).

I recently declined a Greek drone manufacturer my neurochemical skills and system. The deal was: If I got them into the pentagon, it could have meant $30-45M in commissions for my firm. For me this would be a ‘game over’ type of scenario and retirement for my business partner and I would be a reality.

It all comes down to whether of not you want to sell your soul to the devil, or not, doesn’t it? I want this technique to be used to make people’s lives better, not worse.

I recently gave a client their Neurochemical Branding report and they said: «This is like Advertising and Branding on steroids and crack!» hahaha. That’s the best one yet. I put it on our website. It really is.

We loved watching you on the German hit reality TV-series “Germany`s Next Top Model” hosted by the amazing supermodel Heidi Klum.

How was it being on such a big set and working with celebrity photographers and designers?

It was an amazing experience, I felt so fortunate to be given this opportunity. Shooting with the top photographers in the world was something I’ll always treasure and the photos will be in my portfolio forever. Meeting Cindy Crawford was definitely a highlight for me.

She walked into the room, dressed casually in Jeans and a tank top, and everyone just stopped in their tracks. In person, she was the most stunning woman and she was gracious to everyone.

During your “Germany`s Next Top Model Cycle 5” journey, was there a particular photo-shoot that you enjoyed the most and why?

The shooting with Kristian Schuller ( my favorite photographer) in Los Angeles was wonderful. We shot with a great big elephant; he was so cute (I love animals!), and I also got a stunning picture from the shoot that I love.

Do you have any regrets about your experience with the TV Series? If yes, would you name them?

Not really, this was the most amazing experience of my life and I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

At what age did you start modeling?

I started part-time at the age of 16, but after GNTM, I devoted myself full-time to the industry.

How would you describe your fashion style outside of the modeling scenes?

There’s no on/off the catwalk for me. I love fashion, it’s my life.

As a top model, how would you describe a busy day in the modeling industry?

Everyday is different. Shootings, castings, fittings, and a lot of waiting around.

How do you cope with the pressure of staying on top?

I don’t get stressed by competing with other models; I love my job.

There is lots of work and lots of models.

What do you like and dislike the most about the modeling industry?

Like- Traveling, meeting new and creative people, and the feeling of looking glamorous on a photo shoot and rocking a catwalk Dislikes- I see a lot of models around who are way too young to be in this industry. There can be a lot of pressure and negativity in the industry and this can be very stressful and damaging for a young girl.

Do you have any future plans in your career?

Yes! I’ve just launched my modeling agency in Hong Kong, Laura Management.

I’ve stopped modeling and will be focusing full-time on this next phase in my career and I have got a great team behind me.

We’re focusing on getting top models from Europe and will be transforming the face of the Hong Kong fashion and lifestyle scene.

When taking a photograph, what`s more important between a great face expression or a killer pose?

Everything needs to be perfect. The shooting can take hours just to get the pose, the face expression, the light, all in the one shot.

Do you often think about posing when you`re in front of a camera or do you just let yourself go with the flow?

I don’t pose consciously; I just feel the love and joy.

We`ve seen you traveling all around Asia and Europe. What are the essential beauty items that you take in your luggage?

I used to have a bag full of cosmetics, from hydrating to anti-aging serums, creams, and masks. Then my boyfriend who is a doctor made me throw it all away. Now I just carry a really good sunscreen and moisturizer because that’s all you need. http://www.lauraweyel.hk/

Finding the right hat is a lot like finding the right dress or pair of shoes. There are plenty of choices, but not every one is a perfect fit. What`s your hat size?

efore you purchase a hat, make sure you know your size. You can measure the circumference of your head with a measuring tape. Make sure that your hair is down and that you do not hold the tape too tightly. By knowing your measurements, you saved yourself a lot of time while shopping for the right hat. The adult hat sizes run from X-Small to XX-Large (54cm to 64cm) and unlike your dress size, they do not change throughout your life.

Hats serve their own purpose, whether to protect us from the ultraviolet rays, to keep warm, to add a trendy look or to hide a bad hair style. Either way, hats are always vital in our closets! What`s the right hat for me?

omen with square faces should wear hats that soften the look, by minimizing the jaw area. There are many hat options and styles for a square face. Start with soft designs like floppy hats and change it up with curvy lines and a rounded crown.

We`re about to interview a Master of Photoshop:

now a return to more natural standards and more physical photos with emphasis to color, atmosphere and feeling.The marketing in retouching is difficult!

The final product is not a 100% depended on me, but it is mainly depended on the source material that I’m getting every time. It is not a product made from scratch, so the resulting final product is a combination of the photographers’ skills and eye, the models, the shooting team, the brand and finally my lonely work in front of a computer screen.

Recently I read in an article that there is a percentage of one freelance retoucher to every one hundred of freelance photographers. According to this, there is not a lot of competition. What I believe should be the real concern for a retoucher is the improvement of himself in order to become better day by day. This will provide him the luxury to find better clients and to work more selectivity and as a result to build a good portfolio. Working with the best photographers makes your work become more valuable!

For those whom don`t know, what is a Photo Retoucher?

A photo retoucher is a specialist who takes the original photo and improves the image using certain techniques.

Photo retouchers mainly work with digital formats and provide services for photographers, production companies and agencies.

Retoucher is the postshooting improver on a photo, before it is shown to the public. Every fashion and beauty photographer has a retoucher behind him and most times a retoucher is invisible to the industry.

I used your services a few times before and I`ve always been more than happy with the results. For me, you are “the best investment” that a photographer can have. What is your opinion on this industry? Is there a lot of competition?

We have added the verb, “photoshopped” in our language. I disagree with this term. It took me about ten days to work on a photo in a darkroom followed by corrections with brushes. What technology has achieved is that with photoshop, it only takes five hours for the same thing! There is a huge time saving on retouching!

How many hours of retouching does a beauty portrait take for you to finish?

Depending on the photo and the use, the usual time for a beauty portrait is 2-4 hours. Of course, in the case of an advertising photo, this may take several hours to be done.

Having an appealing image can make a huge impact on your career.

Why do some people criticize Photoshop users and are obstinately opposed to post processing their images?

Today there is not even one photo in this industry without a touch on it.

Photoshop is the medium to make the photo better. Of course, there is a matter of the retouchers’ work quality. The right use of photoshop from a professional gives a better photo; the bad use gives a bad photo. It depends on the use of an instrument. You may have the knife to slice the bread, but you may also use it to kill someone…This does not mean that the knife is a bad thing!

I believe that a lot of people criticize post processing because they don’t really know what it actually is. The truth is that it is not the post processing itself that is being criticized by the photographers, but the bad use of it.

The goal is to make fake look real and not real look fake.

What advice would you give the beginning Photoshop Wizards in the industry?

I would first recommend honing their skills to a level they are happy with before start searching for clients. They should spend few months of trial and Tf , find their own style and do a good workflow that can help them to save time during work.

Read all the well-known fashion magazines and every single article about editing, even if they think that its not for them… one day it may help them… knowledge is everything!

What is needed in our business is a strong understanding of fashion and beauty photography!

You cannot retouch photos if you don’t understand the light, camera etc.

A relation with arts helps also.

If you can draw, is a big help to your work!

Understanding of color is also very important.

Don’t accept work you cannot handle…just wait for the time when you will be ready.

Things like missing deadlines and making excuses are not tolerated.

Don’t care for the physical distance of your client; you just need a fast internet connection regardless the place or country where you live.

Put your work on as many social websites as possible. You never know who may see your work there!

Have you encountered any unprofessional clients? and how did you deal with the situation?

They always exist. I usually notice them from the beginning of the cooperation and most of the times I stop the deal before it starts. It is a waste of time to try cooperating with someone that speaks a different language!

How long have you been a personal trainer?

I`ve been a personal trainer for 3 years.

What made you want to become a personal trainer?

How do you get clients to hire you?

I have an extrinsic client base to which I’ve acquired over the years through my professional experience and word of mouth. I’ve been able to set the example for my clients to see directly what my training can achieve, thus adopting motivated minds alike.

Most of our readers are artists in the Fashion industry. Have you trained a lot of models?

I’ve trained quite a few models, and have mentored close friends in the fashion and modeling industry. Those individuals that I have trained and mentored, I’ve closely followed, and maintained an affective professional relationship with. I am very supportive of up and coming models that are eager to achieve what I’ve accomplished over the years.

Is there a difference between working with a personal trainer rather than exercising alone?

There is a great difference between the two. Personal training allows for direction and motivation. Personal trainers are able to support and guide the client so that he/she is set on a path for direct outcome. It is to the trainer`s responsibility to set goals and objectives during each training session, and see that each of those goals are accomplished, in order to seek ultimate results.

What are some mistakes that people make when working out?

Giving up too soon, trying too many diets or doing bad diets. Some after working out lose focus and worry about what everyone else in the gym is doing. Those are the most common ones that I see.

Some people eat very little and still have plenty of energy throughout the day. Do I have to cut on eating so much?

I would say keep doing what you’re doing. If it’s not broke, don’t fix it. Just make sure you`re getting protein, good fats, and carbs whenever you eat.

Is there any effortfree way to tone up?

Not really, unless you were blessed with a tone figure already. If not, you have to hit the gym and put in those long hours.

The gym gives nothing away for free. You have to work for it.

How long do you train an average client for?

It really depends on their goal. It could go anywhere from 30 days to 90 days.

What`s the easiest way to get a lazy person in the gym?

Tell them the gym has free smoothies todayhaha.

How can I get a tight booty and how long would it take to achieve such a goal?

Lots of squats. A lot of hours and realistic results are seen 30-60 days.

What is the routine to getting the dream abs?

The Key to Dream Abs is proper eating and clean eating. The abs are made in the kitchen not the gym, I was told once.

This is very true. It’s about reduction of body fat and to achieve that you have to eat clean and proper foods.

Have you had a client who was difficult to work with and how was it so?

No, not really. Most of the time people think and want results over night and think that is how it works. Once you educate them more on how things work, the best part is when they start to see results. They are the best and easiest people to work with.

What is your take on people who become obsessed with the way they look?

I can understand the obsession because it takes a lot of hard work and discipline to build a nice body. It becomes an addiction.

Any advice for the aspiring personal trainers?

Yes. Do it for the love of helping others and transforming their minds and body.

Any advice for the people interested in im-

proving their bodies?

You only have one body. Try to take care of it. A little fitness and clean eating goes a long way to building a better, healthy body.

Do you have any motivational quotes?

I like to tell people that fitness is a lifestyle, not a hobby and that it takes time and patience. I try to keep things realistic.

In the working out regiment, I’d encourage my client to continue until the last second of the routine. I’d use encouraging words and use a positive attitude.

Models: If I was a model and I wanted to achieve a lean body, but not too muscular, what type of training program would you recommend?

Well, if you had no food allergies, I’d put you on a meal plan that would consist of dark leafy greens, nuts, fruits, and simple carbs. Your workout plan would include high reps and light weight.

Be Confident

When you don’t you will be viewed more as bitter than you will be viewed as sexy. Embrace forgiveness of those who have had a negative impact on you from the past. Forgive yourself as well because many times that is the wall that is blocking our self love. Doing this will then allow you to move to the next step in this process.

Find Your True Self To be able to gain confidence and loving yourself, you have to truly find yourself. You have to tap into who you truly are and stop trying to be someone you’re not. When you’re not comfortable in your own skin, you will hinder your ability to consistently exude the sex appeal that is within you. Nobody likes phony people, but a genuine person is admired and desired. So take time to get to know yourself more. Acknowledge your issues and address them. Recognize your strengths and make them better.

When you truly find yourself, being sexy becomes that much easier.

After taking a journey from within, then take a look at what you present on the surface and find what truly works for you. Wear clothes that compliment you, not make you look like a hot mess. Take a healthier approach to your body with better eating and some exercise. Embrace that no matter how amazing and sexy you are, there will always be those you won’t think much of you. Don’t let that phase you, embrace your value, and stand strong in who you are. All of these things will truly help you come into your own as a person and the word «sexy» will all of a sudden be tattooed on your forehead.
