BCM CREATIVE DIRECTOR Douglas Bassett Douglas Bassett Backstage Studio The Backstage Collections presents Haute Couture Paris Spring/Summer 15. This is the highly prized backstage event of the season—with artistically fashioned garments fit for a queen, presented in dynamic locations and adorned with outlandish makeup and hairstyles. It is here, where artistic pressure is the greatest, adding aura to the fashion brand`s image and perception.

Couture with all of its grace and elegance often brings back fashion stars, such as Eva Herzigovà for Versace Atelier, shown on the back cover. I officially began my backstage career the same fashion season she started her career. This is the miracle of Couture as us, viewers, are transported to another dimension. It is a dream-like vision, a Cinderella story.

The Photographer also has his pressure, with time offering the greatest challenge. For example, at the Gaultier show the models had such fast changes, forcing them to run past me, not able to stop or slow down. But that challenge became an advantage allowing me to capture their energy and excitement. When the models wear large gowns, such as the ones in Elie Saab`s shows, there is less movement and their posing is limited. Then when younger, less established designers work with less backstage space, the photographer must reach deep from his experiences to encourage the model`s participation to create a compelling composition.

The construction of The Backstage Collections Haute Couture book becomes most intriguing as the photographer looks for the key image around which an exciting composition is built. The key image may be a color as blue with the designs of Zuhair Murad, or perhaps the key is one model as with the designer Yanina. Often there were several key images such as Valentino`s, where parallel editing works with a sequential series of images, like The Valentino Red as an example. Bi-linear image placement helps balance the composition of each page.

Haute Couture Paris Collections is more than a document of a trend, but a marker of a place in time and history. It is a reflection of our social styles and our humanity. The Backstage Collections is more than just a magazine, but a collector’s guide of the designers who created these beautiful garments, and the models who starred in them. It is a coffee table history magazine that will last longer than the collections themselves.

The runway queen`s daughter has now also become queen. “I absolutely can walk like my mother. We have the same genes. She passed the torch to me. I felt so inspired about how she moved the garments and made them come to life.”

Anna Cleveland is elegant, beautiful, a true talent who incorporates poise and grace, infusing her personality into every garment she wears.

She lights up the runway like no other and she is what this industry needs. Backstage is no exception.

Within seconds, she transforms herself in a Vogue mannequin, creating an interpretation of the designer`s vision. She is pure art. Very few come close.
