Roccamare - in the heart of the Grosseto Maremma - offers a privileged viewpoint of the vastness of the marine horizon and the dimension of a wild pine forest, dotted with villas of modernist heritage such as Nathan Rogers' Bartolini and Berardi's Settepassi. Following in the footsteps of famous personalities such as Carlo Fruttero, Sophia Loren and Italo Calvino - who wrote Palomar here - architect Giorgio Cerrai also wanted to lose himself in the uncontaminated paths of this hidden paradise, transforming the design process into a path of research: of the balance between nature and the built environment, of the story of a new living filtered both by his own know-how and by the maturation of an intimate bond with the landscape. After the demolition of the pre-existing 1960s building, the ideational
freedom amicably granted by the owner led to the result of a Mediterranean house translated into an "ecosystem of transitions": solids and voids dialogue, in fact, in a scenographic patio layout, hinged by a single mobile boundary with all doors and windows facing the sea. The colours of the vegetation, the discreet elegance of the concrete and the iridescent tiles of the bathrooms and bedrooms find a reverberation in the diffuse transparency, while the openable perimeter allows for a continuous exchange between the private shelter-spaces and the environmental factors. Just like the whistles of Palomar's blackbirds, all the organs of this mimetic body "weave into a homogeneous warp", elevating the concept of residence to the physical transposition of a dream, deeply rooted in the territory.
Roccamare – nel cuore della Maremma grossetana – offre un punto di vista privilegiato sulla vastità dell’orizzonte marino e la dimensione di una pineta selvaggia, costellata da ville di eredità modernista come la Bartolini di Nathan Rogers e la Settepassi del maestro Berardi. Sulle orme di personaggi noti quali Carlo Fruttero, Sophia Loren e Italo Calvino – che qui ha scritto Palomar – anche l’architetto Giorgio Cerrai ha voluto perdersi tra i sentieri incontaminati di questo paradiso nascosto, trasformando l’iter progettuale in un percorso di ricerca: dell’equilibrio tra natura e costruito, del racconto di un nuovo abitare filtrato sia dal proprio know-how, che dalla maturazione di un legame intimo con il paesaggio. Dopo la demolizione delle preesistenze anni ’60, la libertà ideativa
concessa amichevolmente dal proprietario ha portato al risultato di una casa mediterranea tradotta in un “ecosistema di transizioni”: pieni e vuoti dialogano, infatti, in un impianto scenografico a patio, incardinato da un’unica delimitazione mobile con tutte le porte e finestre rivolte verso il mare. Le cromie della vegetazione, l’eleganza discreta del cemento e le piastrelle cangianti di bagni e camere da letto trovano un riverbero nella trasparenza diffusa, mentre il perimetro apribile consente un continuo scambio tra gli spazi-rifugio privati e fattori ambientali. Proprio come fischi dei merli di Palomar, tutti gli organi di questo corpo mimetico “s'intessono in un ordito omogeneo”, elevando il concetto di residenza alla trasposizione fisica di un sogno, profondamente radicata nel territorio.

QUALITY OF THE FINAL RESULT, HARMONY BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT VOICES THAT MAKE UP THE PROJECT, HARMONY WITH THE URBAN OR LANDSCAPE CONTEXT, FORMAL BALANCE COMBINED WITH THE CHARACTER OF THE LINGUISTIC CHOICES ARE SOME OF THE POINTS OF REFERENCE OF NEATSTUDIO, ALWAYS TRAVELLING - PHYSICALLY AND METAPHORICALLYIN THE DIRECTION OF NEW POSSIBILITIES FOR RESEARCH AND EXPERIMENTATION.
