Standard Studio Suite

Standard studio suites provide a spacious, bright and comfortable experience for any student on campus. These units feature a twin XL bed, kitchenette, private bathroom and a large window to allow natural light to fill the entire space. These units are close to all Polytechnic amenities including the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre where you can enjoy state-of-the-art facilities to meet your recreation and sport needs. These units offer a single occupancy setting.

Premium Studio Suite

Premium studio suites offer added touches for your stay at RDP. These units include a queen size bed, kitchenette, private bathroom and a large window to allow in natural light. Premium studios also come equipped with a TV and cable. This option is perfect for students looking for a single occupancy setting. A number of premium studio suites are barrier-free for those that require barrier-free access in their unit.

Four Bedroom Blocks

These four bedroom split level units are located just east of the main Polytechnic building and provide a spacious common area with lots of natural light. Each unit features two full bathrooms, a full kitchen and living room. Bedrooms are equipped with twin XL beds and full closets.

Four Bedroom Clusters

These townhouse-style units are a two minute walk to the main Polytechnic building and are a great experience for any student. Offering a full kitchen, living room and basement with 1.5 bathrooms, these units can accommodate a wide variety of living requirements. Recently replaced, all beds are a firm twin XL.

Four Bedroom Towers

Tower units provide the convenience of living on campus without ever having to leave the main campus building! These four bedroom, apartment-style units are directly attached to the main campus building and are interconnected by a series of hallways and stairwells. Each bedroom features a twin XL bed and storage.

Two Bedroom Clusters

Two bedroom row houses offer a single level design with two bedrooms each equipped with a twin XL bed, shared kitchen and bathroom. These units are located in a quiet area on campus, perfect for those that want to be close to their classes while enjoying additional privacy.

Two Bedroom Barrier-Free

Two bedroom barrier-free units offer accessible accommodation connected directly to the main campus building. Each bedroom comes with a twin XL bed and a shared kitchen, bathroom and living area. These units have lowered countertops for accessibility.

Bachelor Suite

Enjoy the privacy of single accommodations in our bachelor units. These single accommodation units are located in the cluster area of Residence and come equipped with a twin XL bed, a private washroom, kitchen and dining area.

Two Bedroom Family and Couple

Housing

Family and couple housing is conveniently located just outside of the tower residences. These unfurnished units include a kitchen, two bedrooms, one washroom, living area and dining area. Washers and dryers are included for easy in-suite laundry. These units are perfect for small families and couples.

There are utility hookups for your own in-suite washer and dryer. These units are perfect for families with children.

Current Prices and Services

Our current prices are available at rdpolytech.ca/residence

Academic Year (September to April): Rent is charged on a term basis. There are two terms in the Academic Year.

Apprenticeship Housing: Typically this is a weekly charge based on program length.

Family and Couple Housing: Rental Agreements are typically 12 months in length. Rent is charged on a monthly basis.

Spring and Summer Housing: Rental Agreements typically correspond to the time between May 1 and August 30 each year. Rent is charged on a monthly basis.

Tenant Insurance

Red Deer Polytechnic is pleased to offer a Tenants Insurance Program to our students who are living in Residence. For only $80 per academic year, you have a policy that covers your belongings and protects you against loss or damage you may be liable for. It is mandatory that you have a Tenants Insurance Policy active for your entire stay at Red Deer Polytechnic as per the rental agreement.

You have the option to obtain alternative Tenants Insurance through your provider of choice. Students will have an opportunity to opt-out of this provided plan if they posses alternative tenant insurance.

Please note that alternative Tenant Insurance policies are required to have a minimum of $1,000,000 personal liability coverage as part of the policy.

Utility and Internet

All utilities (power, water/sewer, garbage, gas) including internet are included in your rental and service fees. This means you do not have to worry about having to setup utility accounts, watch for bills, or wait for applicable hookups to occur. There is a one-time charge per academic year that covers all applicable utilities and internet.

Tenants Association

Residence is a great community to call home! We have a wide range of activities and programming available to students in Residence throughout their stay to help meet new people and gain new skills. Our Residence Life Team strives to plan events such as NHL or CFL games, video game tournaments, rec sport nights and more to help make Residence your home away from home. There is a charge of $75/academic year rental agreement for the Tenants Association Fee.

Carpet Cleaning

All of our units receive professional cleaning following any move-outs throughout the year. There is a charge of $50/ agreement for carpet cleaning.

How to Apply

Step

1: Residence Account Registration

Create a residence account online (only for new students to Residence). You will need to enter your Red Deer Polytechnic MyRDP credentials. These credentials are provided to new students typically through the mail after acceptance. Once entered, this will send personal details (first and last name, Student ID, personal email address) to our Residence Housing System to create your account to begin the application process.

Step 2: Residence Portal

Login to the Residence Portal. Click Login in the right corner, then click RDP – Student SSO Login. This will now ask for your Red Deer Polytechnic username and password (same as logging in to MyRDP).

Step 3: Applying for Residence

Click the Applying for Housing tab.

Select the appropriate application to begin your application for Residence.

• Apprenticeship Terms for students in our School of Trades and Technology.

• Academic Year 2024 – 2025 Housing applications for September 2024 – April 2025 (open now)

• Winter 2025 for students only requiring winter term accommodations (opens November 1, 2024).

• Family and Couple Housing applications for couples or families with children (open now).

Step 4: Pay for Application

An application fee will be required once you have completed your application. This is payable online through the application.

1. No shared bedrooms or meal plans.

2. Utilities and internet are included in your rental and service fees. You do not have to worry about set up fees for utilities, internet or pesky delays.

3. No heavy furniture to move! All units are fully furnished with the exception of the Family units. Just bring bedding, towels, dishes, kitchen utensils and small appliances.

4. Coin operated washers and dryers are located in student common areas.

5. Don’t feel like cooking? Eat out at The Market Place, Tim Hortons, Starbucks or grab some snacks at our small convenience store – The Lift. All are located on main campus.

6. No vehicle, no problem! The Tenant’s Association runs a shuttle (free of charge) to grocery stores twice a month for any residents.

7. Let’s not forget about all the events and activities that occur throughout the year coordinated by our Residence Life Team.
