Message from the PRESIDENT
It is with immense pride and heartfelt joy that I welcome you all to Richmond Rhythms an 80-90 classic musical celebration brought to life by the Richmond College Union – UK. This evening is far more than just a concert. It is a gathering of purpose a moment for us as proud Richmondites and their friend and families to unite in support of something greater than ourselves. Each year, we come together to raise vital funds that help sustain the work of our Union here in the UK. As always, our mission is twofold: to strengthen our Union and to support our beloved alma mater in Sri Lanka, especially in areas where it is most in need. The response so far has been truly inspiring. The generosity and enthusiasm shown by our members, families, and well-wishers underscore the deep loyalty and love we all share for Richmond College. This spirit of unity is what keeps our legacy alive and thriving. A special thank you goes to Champaka Ramanayake, former Sri Lankan cricketer and proud Richmondite, for his passionate leadership and commitment to this cause. I am also deeply grateful to the event organisers, sponsors, and volunteers who have poured their time and energy into making this event a reality. As we enjoy the music and reconnect with old friends, let us also reaffirm our commitment to the Union and to the future of Richmond College. Every contribution you make today whether through donations, participation, or spreading the word makes a real difference. Let us celebrate our past, support our present, and invest in the future of our Union and our school.

Two years ago, a simple Facebook post changed my journey. It was about Richmond Union UK’s Annual General Meeting. Without much thought, I called Matheesha ayya, eager to connect. His first words made me smile: “Nobody calls like this! We have to call and send reminders to people!” That moment revealed something deeper this Union works hard to keep Richmondites connected, even across the seas.
When I attended the meeting, I felt something special a home away from home. As someone facing the challenges of life in a new country, Richmond Union UK gave me support, guidance, and most importantly, a sense of belonging. I realised that even far from Galle, the Richmond spirit is alive and strong.
Through the Union, I had the privilege of meeting Dr. Sena Nanayakkara. Only after speaking with him did I discover that Richmond Union UK had donated computer equipment to our school during his time as President. Back then, as a young student learning to use computers, I never knew the faces behind those opportunities. Meeting someone who had quietly contributed to our education was humbling. It made me realise helping Richmond isn’t always about big speeches or ceremonies. It’s about small, lasting impacts that shape lives.

• A Lifelong Bond – Once a Richmondite, always a Richmondite, no matter where we are.
• A Support System – A network that stands by you when you need it most.
• A Platform for Growth – Opportunities to mentor, guide, and inspire each other.
• Giving Back – Helping a fellow Richmondite is helping Richmond itself.
Richmond College officially began in 1876, evolving from Galle High School. We recently celebrated 149 years. But there is a deeper history behind our school that may go beyond that. Anyone curious is welcome to explore it our roots may be older than we think.
But a legacy doesn’t sustain itself. I’ve seen how hard the UK Executive Committee works to keep this Union alive. Their efforts deserve more hands and hearts. If more of us join in not just to attend events, but to bring ideas and energy we can achieve even greater things together.
Richmond is more than a school. It is our second mother. This Union is our extended family.
So I invite all Richmondites in the UK to be part of this journey. Let’s connect. Let’s support. Let’s grow together.
