Hello and welcome to our first Newsletter in 2026, we are all looking forward to the beautiful Wisconsin summer months ahead so we can all spend more time outdoors and in the community.
It’s already been a busy and exciting year at RCS Empowers, Inc. and I’m so glad to share a bit of it with you! This January–April newsletter offers just a snippet of all the wonderful things that have been happening— highlights that reflect the heart of our organization, from our Participants and their families to our dedicated staff and supportive Board.
RCS Empowers, Inc. continues to move forward with upgrades to our building Including additional interior painting and big changes in our Common’s area. Both our staff and Participants are eagerly waiting for our official opening, which we anticipate being June.
Looking ahead, we have several exciting events on the horizon that we hope you’ll mark on your calendars. Our 4th Annual Golf Outing returns this August 3rd, promising a day of fun, and support for our programs. In September, we will host our Participant Art Show, which will once again showcase the incredible talents of our Participants. And for something brand new, we are thrilled to introduce our Inaugural .05K Walk/Run Fundraiser: Small Steps. Big Impact. —a lighthearted and meaningful way for everyone to get involved and make a difference. It will be fun day for all!
RCS is looking to the future as we are making plans for continued programming growth and keep stepping forward with new opportunities.

EMPOWERING
IPS PROGRAM IN ACTION
Autumn is a youth participant of the RCS Empowers, Inc. IPS Program*. At the end of 2025 and just three days prior to her 15th birthday, Autumn, with the support RCS Employment Specialist, Emma, applied at Culver’s. At the time, she was told hiring was on hold until the new year. In February, Autumn received a call from Culver’s to arrange an interview during which she was offered a position. Fast forward to the following week and her first official day as a Culver’s Dining Attendant!
*IPS is an evidence-based model of supported employment. It is a strength-based and outcome focused approach to vocational rehabilitation for people with serious mental health and/or co-occurring substance use disorders.
The IPS program is offered in partnership with the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation as well as Sheboygan County Health and Human Services.
EMPLOYMENT SERVICES = SUCCESS
Kenjen has been gainfully employed at North-side Walmart since June ‘25. Originally hired for the seasonal department (which he enjoyed immensely), Kenjen was asked to become a “picker” as staffing demands changed due to the changing season. With a bit of encouragement, he complied.
Now, due to his speed and efficiency, Kenjen is one of the top-ranked pickers at the Northside Walmart. His willingness to try something new paid off - he not only loves the new position, but also earned himself a raise in pay!
As a “supported employment hire,” Kenjen’s story represents just one of the many ways the Employment Services Specialists at RCS Empowers, Inc. assist in finding, and maintaining, gainful employment for individuals with disabilities who want to work. Other services, include: job shadowing, job coaching, resume assistance, and mock interviews.

BRAVO to the Lakeshore Chorale, Inc. singers for sharing their talents with RCS and the community!
RCS Empowers, Inc. hosted members of Junior LeadershipSheboygan County* for the group’s Diversity & Inclusion Day in February. In addition to receiving Disability Sensitivity Training, students were given tours and heard firsthand from Participants and Model Workers who are employed at RCS.
PROGRAMMING & COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Karli and members of the All About Artists class headed north to The Rahr-West Museum in Manitowoc for a once-in-a lifetime opportunity to view over 40 original public art pieces by Keith Haring which are from a five-year period when Haring roamed New York City subways, chalk in hand, and became famous for his spontaneous graffiti-like drawings.
In February, participants held an Opening Ceremony of its own. With a backdrop of Olympic fanfare and a variety of national anthems, Participants carried in the Olympic torch and flags representing different countries— all culminating with the “lighting” of an Olympic flame!

OFF THE CLOCK: RCS Employees and members of the Board were invited to clock out & kick back at 3 Sheeps Brewing in March and April. It was a great chance to unwind and connect with colleagues!
