YOUR HEALTH MATTERS QUARTERLY

WHEN SECONDS COUNT, YOU ARE THERE.

From critical condition to a heartwarming reunion at home…because of you!

Dr. Hirji has seen firsthand the transformations that patients in critical condition undergo, thanks to compassionate donors like you.

When Rebecca, a 35-year old woman, was transferred to our hospital with uncontrollable bleeding after a C-section, there was a team of people ready to make sure she received life-saving care.

Her situation was so dire, she had to be monitored by an anesthesiologist during the ambulance ride to RCH to keep her from bleeding out.

Upon her arrival, she was brought directly to the Interventional Radiology suite, where Dr. Hirji and his dedicated team got to work to locate the source of the bleed.

Within 15 minutes, they’d found and stopped the bleeding! And within two days, she was joyfully reunited with her baby and home with her family.

This is what you make possible with your support of the Royal Columbian -- and that impact isn’t lost on Dr. Hirji:

“Donors can have tremendous impact on patient care with them our team can conduct more critical procedures like Rebecca’s. We’re able to provide cutting-edge care by using the latest technology, and ultimately save the lives of more patients within our community.”

Because you care about your community, we can care for them. And that’s a beautiful thing. Thank you for your compassion to make sure that everyone in our region has access to the best health care in their most critical moments!

REDEVELOPMENT UPDATE:

When an emergency happens, every second counts. That’s why we dedicate ourselves to ensuring our emergency room is the best it can be — for the people we all love. It’s why our redevelopment and the construction of the Jim Pattison Acute Care Tower is so important.

Over the next few years, RCH will welcome a new, larger Emergency Department in the Jim Pattison Acute Care Tower with 75 treatment bays, including four trauma bays. The department will also feature an expanded satellite Medical Imaging area, housing a CT scanner, ultrasound, and two radiology rooms, allowing for expedited admission and diagnosis.

Which means we’ll be able to do even more, even faster, when every moment counts.

There will be many updates to come. For now, know that your dedication, trust and generosity is not only what inspired this dream — it’s the driving force to make it possible. Thank you!

“I’ve seen firsthand the effects of what donors can do…”

FAR FROM HOME WITH NO OPTIONS…

How You Were There for Daryll, Bethany, and baby Jacob.

Parents Daryll and Bethany don’t know how they would have survived their NICU stay without the caring hearts of people like you.

Early in their pregnancy, they received devastating news: their baby was no longer growing, and he needed to be delivered — immediately. After an emergency C-section, baby Jacob was born, weighing only 3 lbs, 8oz.

He needed a lot of complex care — care only our NICU could provide. But the family was far away from home and unable to afford a hotel room close to the hospital.

They had no idea what to do. All they wanted was to be close to their baby.

Luckily, one of our social workers found an available room nearby — all set up for a postnatal mother. And amazing people just like you covered 100% of the cost!

“The generous support of complete strangers made such an incredible impact on us when we needed it most, and we will be forever grateful,” says Daryll.

Inspired by the outpouring of love and support they received, they are focused on giving back to their community through JJ’s NICU Fund. In fact, Daryll recently ran a half marathon in support of the fund, so other parents can receive the same care his family did.

“During this stressful time, we want to ensure that these families receive anything they need, to reduce any additional stress on top of that already incurred by a stay in the NICU.”

Thanks to the support of kind-hearted people like you, baby Jacob is thriving, healthy, and definitely no longer a baby! When we come together as a community to care for and heal, amazing things are possible.

MORE AND MORE PEOPLE ARE COMING TO US FOR HELP EVERY DAY.

Your compassion today can help us meet the needs of our province tomorrow

We are so grateful to you — our caring community of supporters — for being passionate about critical, life-saving care right here at home.

But here’s the thing:

The number of people coming to us for help is getting larger by the day. Our population is growing and aging dramatically at the same time.

COVID-19 showed us that new and complicated viruses can appear, seemingly out of the blue… and that we must always be ready for them.

We realize that in order to be the critical care hospital that our province needs, we need to make some changes, and we need to make them now.

And we’re wondering if you’d like to continue to help?

Your investment in our hospital’s redevelopment will serve as an investment in the health of the lower mainland — and really, all of BC — for years to come!

Your gift today of $50, $100, $200, or any amount that’s right for you, can help us create more space at our hospital by replacing aging buildings and adding two times more patient beds!

Not only that, your gift will help us grow in medical knowledge and technology, so we can help your loved ones in new and less invasive ways.

Think of it as getting the right machines into the right rooms at the right times.

Simply put, your gift today will help everyone at our hospital help the people you love better. Your generosity will ensure that they are taken care of when they need it the most.

Thank you for your compassion!

Your generosity helps us take care of the most complex patients in our region.

YES! I want my loved ones to have the best care possible — today and for years to come!

To invest in the future of your community, please make a caring gift today.
