What’s happening Rosslare Community & Sports Centre We are pleased to announce our new Community space will be officially named The Fort Room. As many of you may know, The Fort was built in the 1640s at the extreme tip of Rosslare Point, as protection for the town of Wexford against possible invasion. A small village settlement developed around the Fort, with its own school and church. Although both institutions closed in the 1870s, the Fort remained a point of interest for locals and tourists alike, with a number of the remaining homes used as holiday residences. All that ended dramatically in the winter of 1924 when a tidal wave, followed by a series of winter storms, devastated the remaining buildings. To this day, the remains of what was once The Fort can be glimpsed at low tide. Our thanks to the Rosslare Historical Society for this fascinating account.

With the days growing shorter and a bit of a nip in the morning air, why not avail of an indoor class here at the Centre.

Our regular clubs and groups are up and running and a full listing is available on our website and in this handy newsletter, along with details of events and happenings around the village. If you haven’t signed up for your newsletter you can do so on our website (www.rosslareholidayresort.ie).Future development plans for the centre include refurbishment of the crazy golf course and the addition of CCTV to public areas. Bricks 4 Kidz 30 October to 2 November! Bricks 4 Kidz LEGO® workshop. Bricks 4 Kidz LEGO® themed 4 day Camps have been designed to teach the principles of Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths (STEM) to girls and boys, aged 5 – 12 in a fun and entertaining way. Children will enjoy using LEGO® Bricks to build specially-designed models, play games, explore the world of engineering, architecture and mathematics. Pumpkins, zombies and withering skeletons will all feature in our spectacular Halloween Camps. We hope to see all of you LEGO® fanatics there! Follow our Facebook page for details.

Shine Bright Theatre Classes every Tuesday commencing at 3pm, 4pm and 5pm. Suitable for children aged 3-12 years.

St Mary’s GAA and Camogie Club are holding a Race Night on Saturday 6th October at Culleton’s Kilrane at 9.30pm.

Bags are provided at the car park and can be deposited in any refuse bin round the village;‘any bin, any bag’.

Coffee & Crochet Club meet on Tuesdays at 11am Percussion classes and Beginner Guitar lessons available from 5:30pm to 6:30pm. More Guitar lessons are available on Wednesday from 4:30pm for two sessions. German Language Group meet every Wednesday from 11am.

Rosslare Historical Society are delighted to have launched their newest historical journal, Rosslare in History 6, edited by Gerry Breen. This journal is a great account of social history around Rosslare in years gone by. A great read and an invaluable addition to any book shelf. Books are on sale at Boggan’s Londis, Grange Road, Rosslare. €10 each.
