The new sign at the garden’s entrance
The Access for All garden can now boast all year-round colour thanks to the recent completion of a wonderful public mosaic trail. Funded by Wexford Council’s Creative Ireland Craft Scheme, the pieces were crafted by volunteers from a variety of local community groups under the tutelage of mosaic artist, Claire O’Brien.
In a series of group workshops, over 21 volunteers came together during the summer. months Under Claire’s professional guidance, they mastered the complex craft of mosaic creation, learning how to break and cut the glass safely, how to place and secure it, creating a number of beautiful mosaic designs based on the flora and fauna of the garden. The pieces produced include customised planters, stepping stones, wall plaques and a colourful sign to welcome all visitors, and all are now in place around the site. Not only has the project benefitted our village garden, but it has also given a boost to community pride. As a result, many people have attained new craft skills and a greater appreciation of mosaic artwork and the intricacy involved in its creation We are hugely grateful to Wexford County Council and Creative Ireland Craft Scheme 2019, to Claire, and the team of volunteers for their hard work and dedication in bringing this project to life. Next time you’re passing, why not call in and see for yourself. All are welcome.
