Rosslare Christmas Newsletter

Welcome to the December Edition of Rosslare Newsletter As memorable years go, 2020 must be up there in everyone’s top five. January and February proceeded along at their usual pace, then Covid-19 came along and turned our world upside down! A leisurely stroll through the supermarket aisles became a military operation and we became experts overnight in the art of zooming. It’s been a challenging time. But as is so often the case when catastrophe strikes, particularly in small communities, the village came together in a spirit of co-operation and a willingness to help those who needed it, and Rosslare Volunteers Group was up and running within days of the first announced lockdown. Prescriptions were filled and delivered, essential shopping was organised, newspapers were dropped through letterboxes; a phone call was all that was needed for somebody to put up their hand and say “Leave that one with me”. To everyone who helped, and who continue to help, your efforts are hugely appreciated. We’re not out of the woods yet, but we have reason to hope that 2021 might bring back a semblance of normality. As Christmas approaches, we remain mindful of those among us who might need a little extra boost this year and the Toy appeal, a joint venture launched by Rosslare Development Association, Rosslare Community Development Association and Cois Barry House, is now under way. You can donate up to 20th December; new toys for the Under 12s can be dropped at any of the collection points in the village – see our back page for more details. The Community Centre has a busy year ahead. As detailed in our Annual Review, we have secured funding for two projects aimed at enhancing our facilities in and we will be concentrating on raising the balance of €20k. Our first event of the year is the January Walkathon – between noon on 2 Jan and noon on 3 January, your family or group can book an hour-long slot on our track and make a start on whittling away those Christmas calories. Slots cost €50 and sponsorship cards are available from Rosslare Community Centre or from John on 087 982 9350 or Eddie on 085 1271954. All proceeds go towards our community projects. We plan to undertake a long awaited refurbishment of Green Court 1 &2 early in 2021, so we’ll be shipshape for the Summer ahead.
