At Rockford University, you get both. RU is a small, private university located in Rockford, Illinois, a city of nearly 150,000 people. Yet, it’s tucked away on 150+ acres of rolling hills and abundant trees, wildlife galore. Spotting a few deer and turkeys is not unusual, either.

It’s the best of both worlds. Learn in small classes where professors know you and truly want you to succeed. These same faculty are published authors, recognized experts, researchers, business owners, and performers— and they teach first. Interested in researching the spread of disease or the effect of music on learning, we’ve got you covered. Learn from our faculty members, 1:1, as they pursue their own research, or propose your own. Either way, a hands-on education is in store. And because our faculty and staff are entwined in the community, you’ll have access to a multitude of internship and career connections.

Through RU’s Student Opportunity Fund, I traveled to Rome during an incredible short-term abroad trip. I saw and experienced what we had learned in the classroom, and it helped me appreciate a different culture. I also learned about myself and what it means to be a better citizen of our world.
I chose to play men’s basketball because it was clear that the coaches genuinely care about each of the players and want us to succeed both athletically and academically. My experiences as a studentathlete at Rockford University will stay with me forever.
I chose Rockford University because I wanted to go to a school where the professors could spend more one-onone time in the classroom helping students, and I wanted to be in a place that builds community.
I chose Rockford University because I felt that this would be the best opportunity for me to gain leadership skills, and get a great education. The professors here help you understand everything that is taught in a small classroom setting. I felt that this was the best choice for me.
