extensive training and product knowledge that comes from servicing Kubota equipment. This training, along with unlimited information from dealer support, is something you simply can’t get when servicing your own equipment. In saying this, I’m in no way suggesting that customers shouldn’t or couldn’t take care of their own service needs. Our friendly parts departments supply Kubota parts to do-it-yourself customers all the time. Below are a few simple tips for all you non do-it-yourselfers that will stretch your service budget, and improve overall performance regardless of your machine. Keeping your battery fully charged throughout the year will extend battery life. There’s nothing worse than a machine that won’t start when there’s work to be done. Use a trickle charger or simply let it run periodically to help prevent dead batteries. Another very simple step is to keep your equipment clean. Always clean your equipment after using it, and definitely before storing it. Our service department has seen utility vehicle drivelines destroyed because of mud and dirt build up that lead to part failures. Mowers and implements that aren’t properly cleaned will dull blades faster and could create moisture problems. Tire pressure is another overlooked point. Low pressure in smaller machines like lawn mowers can cause uneven cuts. Lastly keeping fresh gas or fuel stabilizer in your unit is a must. I make it sound like equipment isn’t made to get dirty or can’t handle any misuse, but it can. There’s nothing I listed that isn’t common sense, yet it’s these common sense maintenance checks that are easily overlooked.

Three seed box options — cool season, warm season and legume — plant anything from rye and oats to prairie grasses, wild flowers, radishes and soybeans

Spring is definitely in the air. Trees are budding and cool weather crops are being planted, and if you’re like me you’re probably getting anxious to spend more time outside. For equipment owners, spring also means putting their machines back to regular use. Before you dust off your mower or hop on your tractor consider these simple tips from the certified Kubota technicians of Great Plains Kubota. For the second year in a row, Great Plains Kubota has offered winter service specials that run through the end of March. These specials, depending on the equipment being serviced, typically save customers $150 to $200. Incentives like free pick up and delivery, or free mower blades are added values to these specials because we want our customers to utilize and understand the importance of scheduled maintenance. Not only does servicing your machine before springtime use protect your investment, it can lead to savings further down the road. Proper maintenance is key to any equipment life span and success. For those who don’t perform their own service, being proactive and having authorized service done before regular usage will save time and money. A lot of customers wait until the last minute to bring equipment in which creates increased service traffic, and unfortunately can create longer return times. Beat the springtime rush and have it done during early or late winter. Customers that work our specials to their advantage save money and eliminate any down time. I know the fast talking jargon surrounding dealerships service departments can get old. Euphemisms like “factory trained”, or “authorized technicians”, both of which I’ve used in this editorial, may give some the sense of over glorifying mechanics. The fact is, there is All seed boxes can be engaged/ disengaged independently with a single lynch pin — no tools required

anny and Tina Kelly know the importance of reliable equipment, and the value of quality work. The couple bought their first Kubota in 1997. They now own 5 Kubotas including: three Kubota tractors, a M135GX, M110, B2320, a Kubota SVL compact track loader, and a RTVX-1100 utility vehicle. Over the years they’ve built a foundation of work ethics and instilled equipment operating knowledge to their four daughters. Jessie, Madison, Hunter, and Briar can all operate any of the family’s Kubota equipment, but 11 year-old Briar, much like her father, has a true passion for operating Kubota equipment. Briar, the youngest of the Kelly’s daughters, is the most enthusiastic among her sisters when it comes to using a Kubota. Impressively, she can run the SVL as well as most operators could. She even loads and unloads the skid steer from the trailer. Perhaps Briar’s favorite Kubota is her little B2320 lawn tractor which she uses to clean the stock trailer out after every use. She’s also the go-to family member when its time to pull their finish mower, but when it comes to time spent in the drivers seat of a Kubota, no one in the family can GPL Spring 2016

He basically starts in the Washita river and builds the landing 20 to 30 feet up from the river. His skid steer usage is by no means limited to oil field applications. Danny and Tina’s granddaughters, Dani and Henslee Ray, both have Kubota pedal tractors which may be limited in farming applications, but for Danny they’re a way to start teaching them early. In a family that could choose to ride one of their ATVs or Polaris RZRs you wouldn’t think the Kubota RTV workhorse would be the first choice for the kids, but it is. Improving Soil Health on Grazinglands

By J. Clay Horton District Conservationist, Ada Field Office Natural Resources Conservation Service

S

oil Health is one of the hot topics going around agricultural today, especially in the cropland community. However, the concept of healthy soils is no less important on grazinglands. And although the concept is more easily demonstrated in cropland, grazingland soils can be evaluated and improvements made based on soil health principles as well. There is an old saying, “You won’t know where you’re going unless you know where you’ve been.” So a quick look back to establish a baseline is a good place to start. As European settlers moved west they found land covered in diverse plant communities shaped by roaming herds of grazing animals and periodic fires. In fact, grazing and fire may be the only disturbance the land experienced on any regular basis. The diverse soil biology and structure under the surface was not recognized as an important part of the entire system. In fact, it is probably the most important part of the system. The soil was light, crumbly, and provided a medium that sustained and nourished plants, insects, worms, and countless soil microbes. This complex component of the system would be destroyed by modern agricultural practices before its importance was recognized. That is actually what all the buzz is about today, restoring that lost soil biology and structure. So that is where we are going. Our goal today is to restore the healthy soil function that existed over a century ago. Now we probably need to see where we are at. We need a soil test and a soil health assessment. A colleague of mine recently said, “If a producer is not willing to get a basic $12 soil test and correct phosphorus, potassium, and pH then talking to them about managing for soil health is a stretch”. There is merit to that. We have to start with a firm foundation. That foundation is adequate nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and an acceptable soil pH. Contact your local Cooperative Extension Agent for assistance obtaining a soil test, results, and recommendations. Next were going to be making some other measurable observations. These are more qualitative than quantitative and include soil structure, compaction, organic matter, soil life, water infiltration, salinity, plant health, ground cover, and erosion indicators. Some GPL Spring 2016

of these can actually be assessed through laboratory analysis but field observation is a good place to start. The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and some local Conservation Districts can assist you in conducting a soil health inventory. The next inventory piece is you and the ranch. What type of soils are here and what is growing on them? Why? Where are the fences and water? What kind of equipment is available? How much help do you need and how much do you have? What are your management abilities? What is your financial position? What is your overall production goal and is it reasonable? The answers to these questions will play an important role in how a new plan focused on soil health can be implemented. That brings us to the 5 principles of creating and maintaining a healthy soil. 1. Keep the soil protected by keeping living plants or plant material on the surface. No bare soil. Covered soils prevent erosion, improve water infiltration, add organic matter, regulate soil temperature, filter runoff, and suppress undesirable weeds. Achieve this by establishing multiple plant species to allow for living and decaying material throughout the year, maintain minimum grazing and mowing heights, and rotate livestock frequently. Try to plant with pasture drills and no till drills. If seedbed preparation is required try to use the least disturbing method available. Keep the soil bare as short a time as possible. 2. Do not disturb the soil or disturb as little as possible. This refers primarily to not plowing but also refers to hoof action and burning. A healthy soil has structure and looks crumbly. There is space between soil aggregates for air, water, roots, microbes, and other living things. Plowing breaks soils up into their smallest components and collapse together effectively tightening soil up. A plowed field will “seal off ” after the first few minutes of a rain event sending water running across the surface and into ponds and creeks. Plowing also exposes soil organic matter increasing decomposition, further reducing water holding capacity. This is an inhospitable environment for the living organisms of the soil. 11

grazing Cont. 3. Keep a living root in the ground for as much of the year as possible. Beneficial bacteria and fungi that live in the soil feed on carbohydrates. These are sugars exuded from the roots of green living plants. A dormant Bermuda grass pasture, just like a plowed fallow cropland field, does not provide food for microbes to survive. The “Soil Food Web” is similar to any other food web. The smallest living things feed the larger living things. If you lose the smallest you are effectively starting over every growing season. 4. Maintain a diverse plant community. It should be obvious that a diverse mixture of warm and cool season plants is how you keep a living root of an actively growing plant in the soil year round. However, that is not the entire story with this principle. Diversity means many species of warm and cool season plants, annuals and perennials, grasses, legumes and forbs, including deep heavy rooted brassicas. It would be convenient if we could say plant these species. This isn’t quite the case, even in cropland. Establishing and maintaining a diverse mix of forage species in grazinglands can be difficult, especially if it is into a Bermuda grass base. You can expect to augment pastures periodically to accommodate for preferential grazing to changing weather patterns. The best advice is to contact your NRCS office, local cooperative extension agent, and other professional assistance like the Noble Foundation or Kerr Center for Sustainable Agriculture for advice. They are going to be familiar with species that are adapted to your area of the country and what percentages each species should be in the seed mix.

5. Proper grazing management. There is no getting around a proper stocking rate. To achieve the four principles above and our stated goal of restoring healthy soil function we have to allow plants time to recover from grazing events. Biomimicry refers to imitating nature. Since we are trying to restore what nature had accomplished on her own for millennia it makes since to try and mimic how native grazers did it. They moved in large herds evenly harvesting a wide variety of plants. They may not return to the same location until the next growing season or longer. This will be accomplished today with rotational grazing systems. This requires forcing or encouraging livestock to graze evenly in a particular location and then moving on. The obvious method is cross fencing pastures but could also be accomplished with patch burning in some situations. Fencing requires establishing adequate livestock water also. Restoring soil health is a simple concept but not always easy to implement. It requires more management. The ranch manger cannot just repeat what was done the previous year. It requires the land manger to change the way he or she thinks about managing the ranch; working within the lands capabilities instead of forcing it to do produce. I firmly and whole heartedly believe that restoring the function of healthy soils will improve forage production with less inputs, improve water quality, protect our operation from drought and floods, and ultimately improve your bottom line.

A CUSTOMER’S TESTIMONY Above: Great Plains Edmond customer, Mike Bosley, had a full day of work with a few minor speed bumps and still had time to capture some great shots, including a few of a bald eagle! Photos By: Mike Bosley

I was recently doing a job in the middle of nowhere three miles north of Fallis, OK, when a discarded broken hunting knife ripped a big hole in my tire. Pictured in the upper right is the culprit. The cell signal in this area is essentially non-existent, so I found the nearest high point (the lake dam in the background of this picture), and pulled out my phone while standing on the back of my truck and stretching my neck up as far as I could. I was able to get one tiny bar on my phone so I called Great Plains Edmond. Our connection was terrible, but he was patient while we talked through options. Because I was on a contract job, I don’t get paid if I’m not working so I needed a solution quickly. GP didn’t have a tire in stock that would fit my L3700 so he searched the internet for tire repair shops and used Google Maps to tell me which shop might be closest to me. He also gave me their phone numbers and all additional information I needed to find a solution to my urgent problem. Now THAT is going the extra mile to help someone in need who, at the end of the day, couldn’t spend a dime with Great Plains Kubota. How great is that? There was a bald eagle that was fishing in the lake while I was there working. I took a few pictures on my lunch break. The picture in the upper left is from my office. Nice office view, huh!? New Kubota ZD1200 Series Mowers

18

K

ubota has produced over twenty five million diesel engines since 1922. Their engines are recognized the world over as a symbol of quality and reliability. Likewise the Kubota ZD Series (diesel mowers) have consistently produced powerful yet clean running mowers that homeowners and lawn care professionals have grown to depend on. This year Kubota has extended their level of mowing performance and productivity even more with the introduction of the ZD1200 series mowers. The ZD1211 is available with 60 and 72 inch mowing decks with side or rear discharge. Both are equipped with a 24.8 Kubota diesel engine, and have several new features that will increase efficiency and productivity. The ACS or Aerodynamic Cutting SystemTM of the Kubota pro decks have been designed for optimized airflow. The ACS decks are built for faster, efficient cutting and discharge. This improvement results in reduced power consumption and increases fuel economy. New spindle shafts, blade designs, and a flexible discharge chute all play an integral part in optimizing airflow within the deck. The deck’s spindle shaft is now larger and more durable, while the redesigned cutting blades are shaped to improve both cutting efficiency and overall load balance. These new blades also provide a longer service life! Improved airflow within the deck is a great advancement for performance, but there are also several new features that will ensure a smoother ride with the ZD1211 and improve overall comfort. A more comfortable seat will result in less operator fatigue and great productivity, and that’s exactly what customers are getting with Kubota’s new 1200 series mowers. With dual armrests, higher backrests, and lumbar support, the fully padded reclining bucket seat ensures a high level of comfort. The new low profile tires are sure to improve stability and traction on turf and the 3 position damper force adjustment lever lets owners personalize their comfort even more. The new ergonomically designed control layout and large bright LCD panel allows for faster operations and easier handling. There’s a lot of changes with the new Kubota 1200 series diesel mowers, but customers can still expect a rugged design powered by a dependable engine that will get through the toughest mowing jobs with ease. The 1200 series is now available at your local Great Plains Kubota. GPL Spring 2016

Little Journeys to Good Ranches A Day on the Horse Shoe Ranch

By A.C. Williams

This article was written by A. C. Williams and printed in the December 1915 issue of The Cattleman magazine. The Cattleman, still in circulation, is a publication of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association.

I

n those early days of which we hear so much, the successful, ranchman did not find it necessary to keep an elaborate record of his business transactions. The word of a man was quite as good as a written contract, and business records were usually kept on the pages of his pocket memorandum. But times have changed, and today many of the larger ranches are applying modern business methods to their management, and keeping accurate cost records of the various features of their business. A splendid example of this modern ranch, is the Horse Shoe Ranch of Hickory, Oklahoma, and when an invitation was extended me recently to visit the ranch I was not slow to accept. In company with Geo. W. Armstrong, president and principal stockholder of the ranch, John Sparks, president, and F.L. Miller, of the Stock Yards National Bank, I left Fort Worth about noon via the Santa Fe Railway, arriving at Sulphur, Oklahoma, at sunset. There we were met by A.J. Armstrong, general manager of the ranch, who loaded us into a new car and after a brief tour of the Government Park and a taste of the water from Sulphur Spring, we headed for the ranch twenty miles East. This was my first trip through that section of Oklahoma, and what a surprise it was to me to see the rapid development of this country. Hundreds of cattle were once shipped from Texas to this section of Oklahoma, fattened on grass and then shipped out to market. But a wonderful change has come about. Those vast prairies have been cut up into smaller pastures, and instead of the larger herds of yesterday, one finds today scores of smaller ones of much better quality. Contented husbandmen are tilling the soil, and the fertile valleys are producing wonderful 20

harvests of food for man and beast. We hurried on, but finally dusk overtook us, and here and there were plainly visible the lights in neighboring ranch and farm houses. Passing on through Hickory, I noticed in the distance what appeared to be the glow from a well lighted village, and turning to Mr. Armstrong, I asked, “What town is this we are approaching?” “Why,” he replied, “that’s the ranch. We pump our water at night and while the engine is doing this we simply attach it to the dynamo and make our electric lights.” Further inquiry brought out the fact that all buildings on the ranch are lighted by electricity, and that the cost, considering the convenience and the further fact that the danger of fire is greatly lessened, is possibly no more than by the old method. Presently we reached the ranch, and I shall not soon forget the bright lights and coziness of the ranch house as we unloaded and walked in. The few hours on the train followed by our brief ride in the car sufficed to improve our never failing appetites, and soon we sat down to satisfy our hunger at the table which had been previously prepared by the faithful housekeeper. I shall not undertake to describe that meal to you, for if I did so, little space would be left for the remainder of this story. Suffice it to say that one of the doctrines of the Horse Shoe Ranch is to raise home necessities at home, and verily the table was groaning under its load of home grown products of choice variety. After supper we sat around the table and discussed various features of the ranch development, and plans for the future. Briefly, here it is as I remember it. Seven years ago George W. Armstrong bought 2,000 acres of this land. For a year or two it was leased out for grazing purposes, and then the owner GPL Spring 2016

decided to buy up adjoining property and develop it into his ideal ranch. Since that time his land holdings have increased to something over 13,000 acres, and in addition to this 12,000 acres of leased lands. In the beginning he decided that successful methods should be applied to the organization and management of the ranch. Accordingly the Horse Shoe Ranch Company was organized with a capital of $100,000.00, the stockholders and officers being Geo. W. Armstrong, president; A. J. Armstrong, vice-president, and Y.Q. McCammon, secretary and treasurer. The lands are not owned by the ranch company, but are leased to the company by Mr. Armstrong for a sum equal to a reasonable interest on the investment. Accurate cost records are kept on every department of the business. Time cards are turned in regularly by every employee, showing exactly how many hours have been devoted to each particular branch of the work, and whether assisted by wagon, team, tools, or machinery. A charge is then made against each department for the cost of such work, and when the crop is harvested, proper credit is given at the market price. For example, when the cattle were bought an account was opened up on the books and charge entered for the full cost. In addition to this an annual charge of approximately $3.00 per head is made against grown cattle for pasturage, and market prices for other feeds. All sales of cattle are credited to this account, and then at the end of the fiscal year all that remain on the ranch are counted and a value placed thereon. By entering this credit they may determine whether the cattle have shown a profit for the year, and just how much. And so, with every other crop produced on the entire ranch. Modern labor saving machinery of all kinds is used extensively, the value of the machinery now in use on the ranch approximating $20,000. In order to avoid unnecessary loss and damage, all machinery is kept under lock and key, and when an employee takes out a plow, hoe, wrench, hammer or other tool, he is

GPL Spring 2016

charged with its value. When the job is completed he returns the article and is given proper credit. A full supply of small bolts, nuts and other machinery parts is kept on hand in the store room, making it unnecessary to send to town for a nut or minor piece of machinery in case of accident. A blacksmith shop is maintained where all machinery is mended and kept in splendid running order, and the ranch horses and mules shod. A liberal patronage is also received from the outside. The ranch store, opened in the beginning in order to secure wholesale prices on products for the ranch, has developed into a wonderful revenue producer, doing an annual business in groceries, hats, boots, shoes, etc., exceeding that of many mercantile establishments of our modern villages. Country produce is bought and sold in large quantities. A large brick store building will be erected at once. The products of the farming end of the ranch this year were approximately 20,000 bushels of oats, 4,600 tons of hay including about 700 tons of alfalfa, 1,200 acres in cane for silage, 800 bushels of potatoes, 300 bushels of onions, 15 acres in melons, and fruit and other products in proportionate quantities. In addition to this 5,000 gallons of molasses have been put up which will be labeled as the Horse Shoe Brand of syrup and sold to wholesale grocers at very satisfactory prices. Last year 200 hogs were butchered on the ranch for local consumption and sale through the store. An expert butcher formerly in the employ of one of the large packing companies was employed to supervise the work of killing, dressing and cutting up the meats. The hams were smoked with hickory logs and cured by the famous recipes for Virginia hams. The demand for the outside was much heavier than the supply, and unless the hog market improves, it is certain that a much larger number will be slaughtered on the ranch during the coming winter months. A dairy herd of about 75 head is kept on the ranch,

Journeys Cont. the butter fat being shipped out to creameries in neighboring cities. The hour was growing late, and we retired for the night that we might be better prepared for the activities of the coming day. Shortly after daybreak we arose and while breakfast was in the course of preparation went out to take a stroll and view the ranch houses and equipment, which owing to darkness were not clearly visible the evening before. True, there is little spectacular about these buildings, but one is deeply impressed with the fact that they have been planned and built for service and comfort. Off to one side are the three main ranch houses, fully equipped with such modern conveniences as electric lights, hot and cold water, sewerage, etc. On either side are groves of trees and beds of beautiful flowers, and to the rear a large well enclosed park, where dwell seventy deer and hundreds of squirrels. Off to the right is a large garden and vineyard, and further on are the store and office, horse and mule barns, dairy barn, implement building, granary, poultry sheds, blacksmith shop, twin-silos, corral, dipping vat, and other outhouses. Scattered over the vast acres are more than thirty houses for ranch employes. Further on is the power plant from which go out approximately five miles of underground pipes connecting all buildings with the water system. Fire plugs are stationed throughout the grounds and the ranch employes are thoroughly organized for fire fighting, holding practice at regular intervals. Off in front of the residence of A.J. Armstrong, stands a sign with letters big and broad, which reads”WELCOME.” Inquiry brought forth the information that on special occasions hundreds of neighboring farmers and stockmen gather here for picnics, ball games and similar sports. And truly, the visitor who enters their portals is made to feel the sincerity of that WELCOME. The entire ranch is well watered by some thirty odd surface tanks. The first cool spell, while very mild, had served to send a few ducks down from the North, and going by the store we loaded in a supply of guns and ammunition. The first touch of frost had tinged the grass along the hillsides with gold and yellow, and as we went bounding across the grassy trail to the spreading meadows beyond where were grazing hundreds of beautiful white faced cows and calves, I could only murmur to myself truly this is the life. Here and there were groves of spreading trees that shelter them 22

from the winter winds and summer sun. Off yonder to the right were broad fields of alfalfa speckled with red sows and their litters of growing pigs. Further on were the meadows with hundreds of mares and colts grazing by their sides, and sheep eating the stray weeds and leaving the grass unhurt. First we drove by to see a splendid bunch of two’s grazing contentedly on alfalfa and followed by a number of hogs. These were rounded up quickly and counted, and then while the boys were rounding up other bunches, we journeyed through the hay meadows, where scattered here and there were more than 200 stacks of splendid hay of approximately twenty tons to the stack. There they stood, watchtowers of prosperity, waiting for the winter months to come when the grass will be gone and the herds turned in to feast until the coming of another Spring. The ranch is well fenced in large and small pastures, and the cattle divided into three separate classes. Only a short time was required to round up each herd, and before many hours had passed we had rounded up and counted the entire number, totaling something over 4,000 cattle, 1,000 horses and mules, 1,200 hogs and 1,000 sheep. Then as the sun was setting in the West where it usually sets, we headed back for the ranch headquarters with a number of ducks, and another bird of unknown species captured by John Sparks. True we scared up many more ducks, but this was due to the fact that the hay stacks had not been specially arranged to enable hunters to creep up unnoticed to the tanks. This they have promised to arrange next year, in order that I may get up close, take aim, shoot into the bunch and possibly kill at least one duck. Then I may boast of my marksmanship, but not until then. At the close of day we rushed to the station and caught a train back to Fort Worth, each one loaded with a large sack filled with a fine ham, gallon of syrup and some pecans. And say, that ham I had the last of it for breakfast this morning, and as a more poetical writer would probably say, the flavor of that ham lingers with me, sweet and tender like the memory of my visit to the ranch.

GPL Spring 2016

For the Beef: 1. Tie the tenderloin in 4 places so it holds its cylindrical shape while cooking. Drizzle with olive oil, then season with salt and pepper and sear all over, including the ends, in a hot, heavy-based skillet lightly coated with olive oil about 2 to 3 minutes. Meanwhile set out your prosciutto on a sheet of plastic wrap (plastic needs to be about a foot and a half in length so you can wrap and tie the roast up in it) on top of your cutting board. Shingle the prosciutto so it forms a rectangle that is big enough to encompass the entire filet of beef. Using a rubber spatula cover evenly with a thin layer of duxelles. Season the surface of the duxelles with salt and pepper and sprinkle with fresh thyme leaves. When the beef is seared, remove from heat, cut off twine and smear lightly all over with Dijon mustard. Allow to cool slightly, then roll up in the duxelles covered prosciutto using the plastic wrap to tie it up nice and tight. Tuck in the ends of the prosciutto as you roll to completely encompass the beef. Roll it up tightly in plastic wrap and twist the ends to seal it completely and hold it in a nice log shape. Set in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to ensure it maintains its shape. 2. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. 3. On a lightly floured surface, roll the puff pastry out to about a 1/4-inch thickness. Depending on the size of your sheets you may have to overlap 2 sheets and press them together. Remove beef from refrigerator and cut off plastic. Set the beef in the center of the pastry and fold over the longer sides, brushing with egg wash to seal. Trim ends if necessary then brush with egg wash and fold over to completely seal the beef - saving ends to use as a decoration on top if desired. Top with coarse sea salt. Place the beef seam side down on a baking sheet. 4. Brush the top of the pastry with egg wash then make a couple of slits in the top of the pastry using the tip of a paring knife — this creates vents that will allow the steam to escape when cooking. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes until pastry is golden brown and beef registers 125 degrees F on an instant-read thermometer. Remove from oven and rest before cutting into thick slices. Garnish with minced chives, and serve with Green Peppercorn Sauce. Green Peppercorn Sauce: 1. Add olive oil to pan after removing beef. Add shallots, garlic, and thyme; saute for 1 to 2 minutes, then, off heat, add brandy and flambe using a long kitchen match. After flame dies down, return to the heat, add stock and reduce by about half. Strain out solids, then add 2 cups cream and mustard. Reduce by half again, then shut off heat and add green peppercorns.

THE BRANDING IRON

S

Shawnee Relocation

ince acquiring the Shawnee Kubota dealership, formerly Dinsmore Tractor Sales, Great Plains Kubota has taken the store to a new level of performance. Coming late summer of 2016 GP is taking their Shawnee store even further! Great Plains Shawnee has been very successful, but the store’s growth has been limited due to its location and layout. The width of the property is narrow which restricts customer traffic and equipment displays. Great Plains President, Bill Clark commented on the decision to relocate Great Plains Shawnee. “We have been looking for the right location for several years. We’ve finally found a spot that will be more beneficial to our customers. The current location simply isn’t conducive to our customers being able to easily haul equipment in and out of the dealership,” said Clark. Great Plains Shawnee’s new location will be at the intersection of Acme Road and Hwy 177. The new store will offer better customer benefits, as well as employee benefits. Late this summer customers can expect easier access, no city sales tax, a nice new facility, a rental department, and increased product lines. More room means more product and services, and that’s exactly what Shawnee customers can expect. GP Rents, which currently isn’t available at Shawnee, will go online when the new store opens. Now customers will have the opportunity to rent Kubota equipment as well as shop a wider variety of new Kubota products. Clark elaborated further on the move.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to relocate to a convenient new facility in a community that has a stable economic base with great growth potential. We would not make this kind of bold move in the face of an uncertain Oklahoma economy if we didn’t have a great deal of confidence in the Shawnee area. Our hope is the convenience will bring about increased service business and that in turn will bring about the need for additional technicians.” For questions about this move feel free to contact Great Plains Shawnee at (405) 275-4455.
