Fuel wood PNG
Particularly in rural areas there is reliance on traditional sources of biomass energy for cooking. In 2002, FAO estimated fuel wood usage was some 5 million m3. (At the rate of 1.8m3 per person). At the end of 2009, the total population was estimated to be 6.5 million. Hence fuel wood usage would be some 11.7 m3. By 2050 it is estimated the population will be 11.2 million. This implies that by 2050 there will need to be found some 20.6 million m3 of fuel wood in PNG alone.
