Enabled through funding from the Forces In Mind Trust, Scotland’s Bravest Manufacturing Company (SBMC) has reached a significant milestone in its ongoing development plan to ensure military veterans are given the employment opportunities they need to lead fulfilling and independent lives.

The Glasgow social enterprise has received confirmation that it can deliver SQA accredited qualifications in manufacturing for its team of ex-service personnel.

Led by a fully-accredited vocational trainer, the project will see SBMC’s exservicemen and women gain recognised qualifications in manufacturing through flexible plans tailored to their individual needs.

These qualifications will range from signmaking, warehousing and manufacturing operations. The trainer will also provide the programme’s participants with vital support aiding their career progression such as interview and CV writing skills.

UNIVERSITY SET TO EVALUATE THE IMPACT OF QUALIFICATIONS

A team at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) led by Occupational Therapist Shirley Morrison- Glancy will conduct an independent evaluation to examine the impact of attaining a recognised SQA qualification on long-term job prospects, confidence levels, work readiness, employability and the mental health of participants.

Scotland’s Bravest Manufacturing Company has quickly become a standout example of social enterprise in Scotland. We need fresh approaches like this more than ever as we recover from the Covid-19 health and economic crisis.
