Where refurbishment is required to existing flat roofs it is advisable to check with Local Authority Building Control (LABC) before commencing the work. Specifiers should check the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NRFC) “Safe2Torch” guidance at: https://www.nfrc.co.uk/docs/default-source/health-and-safety-guidance-publications/safe2torch-guidance.pdf Remember that all construction specification and detailing must conform with UK Building Regulations.

Preparation • Surfaces must be sound, clean, dry and free from dust. • To improve adhesion on porous, uneven surfaces and in cold or damp weather conditions, the use of a suitable bituminous flashing tape primer is recommended. • Lightly dampen porous surfaces with water before applying. Non porous surfaces should be dry. • Fill any deep hollows, depressions or cracks wider than 3mm. • During cold weather PRO Self Adhesive Flashing Tape will be easier to apply if stored in a warm place prior to use and if the surface to which it is to be applied is warmed. Do not apply to surfaces below 5oC. Application • Cut the Flashing Tape to the required length. • Remove the backing paper and lightly press into place. • Overlap by at least 25mm. • Use a wallpaper roller or similar to ensure a good even contact is made with the surface and to smooth the tape. • PRO Self Adhesive Flashing Tape can be overpainted with exterior grade paints, although slight staining may occur at the edges. • These recommendations are for guidance only as actual conditions of use may vary and are beyond our control. Storage: store in a cool dry place.

Solvent-based adhesive for bonding successive layers of roofing membranes and to bond overlaps on single layer installations that are nailed to timber. Ensure that all surfaces are clean, dry and free from oil, grease, dirt and organic growth. Porous surfaces should be treated with Bitumen Primer and allowed to dry thoroughly. Allow adhesive to develop a tacky surface before applying next layer. Coverage up to 1 litre per 2m² dependent on porosity of the surface. Store in dry conditions at temperatures between 8˚C and 25˚C.
13
PRO BITUMEN PRIMER (750ml) • Fast drying bitumen roof primer • Prepares surfaces prior to applying roofing products or flashing tape
BITUMEN PRIMER • Fast drying bitumen roof primer • Prepares surfaces, prior to applying roofing products or flashing tape
Can be used on metal, concrete, asbestos cement, slate, lightweight concrete screeds, roofing felt and asphalt. Apply by brush in one even coat. Ensure that all surfaces are clean, dry and free from oil, grease dirt and organic growth. Bitumen Primer may be applied to slightly damp surfaces but do not apply in wet weather, when rain is threatened or when poor drying conditions exist. Bitumen Primer is resistant to water within 20-30 minutes. It is essential after priming concrete or screeded surfaces the coating is completely free of solvent and therefore a safe drying time of two hours should be allowed. Coverage is approximately 6-8m2 per litre depending on the porosity of the surface.
