President’s Welcome to Dartfordians RFC Yes indeed, a huge welcome to our old friends from Dartford. Many a battle in years gone by but we have not played them for a few years, as we tried our hands at Level 5. After something of a step back after our wonderful performance at Sutton and Epsom we’ve suddenly picked up a gear with a very special win at home to league leaders Brighton and then away to Bromley last Saturday. In our little hiatus in between, we narrowly scraped a win against Beckenham, and then lost two close ones to Battersea and Canterbury. Incidentally, if you missed it, Canterbury also beat Brighton!! Dartfordians Rugby Club dates back to 1911 when the Old Boys of Dartford Grammar School decided to form the Old Dartfordians Association. After the First World War they formed an Old Boys Rugby Club in 1924. In more recent times, their old Clubhouse was eventually demolished to make way for the new Clubhouse which was eventually ready for occupation in March 1968, although the official opening was held over until the following September. The purchase of the ground was completed in 1977 and many improvements to the Clubhouse have been carried out since. They have been fortunate in that when help was needed such as when the ground was temporarily out of use, the local school readily allowed the club full use of the School’s Facilities. As can be seen at many a rugby club in recent times, Dartfordians, at the Rugby Club’s A.G.M at the end of the 1967/68 season, passed a resolution enabling non-Old Dartfordians to become full members of the club. And to keep you up to speed, we have managed to increase our attendance at Walking Rugby recently with a number of new recruits including two young ladies. If you’d like to join us, be at the AGP at 5.45 on a Monday night. It is great fun. Enjoy your day. Best Wishes
Alan Fisher President, Horsham RUFC
