Foreword Trust. A common word we hear when we meet a new person, buy a high-end item, or even see a cute puppy. It is how we gauge our connection to cer tain events that can possibly change our lives. In this por tfolio, I am going to discuss all my insecurities and self doubts about myself - both as a homegrown creator and as a professional graphic designer. Let me take you to the world of Hiraya.

A B OU T T H E D E SIG N E R Name: Razil Jacinto Bir thday: May 04 Creating humorous and witty ads are my favorite! Nothing beats a good laugh, and bringing positivity to other people. I am a morning person with the facial expression of a night owl. I love finishing all my tasks as early as possible. Creating and brainstorming during daylight is what I do best. After a long day at work, I love to end it with a relaxing leisure time for myself, which includes playing video games (mostly Nintendo and Pokémon), watching my favorite sitcom series, and writing personal blogs.

Hiraya is a Filipino word that translates to ‘Aspirations’ in English. I first heard this word from a local television show called ‘Hiraya Manawari’ (May your dreams come true). I used to have wild, seemingly impossible dreams when I was a kid. I once told my father that I would be an animator when I grow up. Though my current path seems far from my childhood dreams, I am happy because I’m still working in the same creative world I once dreamed of.

Initia lly, Sketch Up was not my for te. But thanks to TEAM Agency, I was able to learn a few basic skills which allowed me to create simple models. I designed both the ar tworks and models for CPS’ exhibit stands and recycle bin.

Galimgim is a Filipino word for ‘nostalgia’. It is a bittersweet feeling, more related to the word ‘melancholy’ which is a kind of sadness seemingly without any real reason. I am a nostalgic person at hear t. I treasure a lot of things, especially those that I purchased in the past and will inevitably affect my life in the future. An example of this is a magazine titled ‘K-Zone’ which I bought when I was only 11 years old. Every time I read through the pages of this magazine, I remember why I took this pathway I am currently taking. I remember the excitement I felt before, hoping that someday I will be good at drawing and designing.

At the star t of the pandemic, I was hired as a freelance graphic designer by a digital marketing agency. I created social media posts for different clients. This specific example was for ATBP - an accounting firm.

When the pandemic hit, I lost one of my full-time jobs. For tunately enough, IDP Philippin es and my freelance work gave me enough reasons to remain optimistic. These cer tificates are awarded to people in IDP who maintained excellent work ethic in the midst of COVID-19.

Tuwa translates to ‘Joy’ in English. I doubted myself many times in the past. I neglected and ignored the achievements and accolades I received because I focused too much on my work, often forgetting how much fun I had whenever I made creative posters and adver tising promotions. Learning from this self-sabotage, I make sure to listen to my inner self now. To slowly breathe in and out, to appreciate myself and all the hard work I have done.

After word All the hatred I felt in the past came from not loving and trusting myself more. Doubting all my abilities, all my characteristics - good or bad - made me feel like I was a fraud. I finally came to understand that the one I hated the most was myself. But I have hope that with all the years of selfhelp, professional help and proper diet, step by step I will come to like myself.
