Trinity Lutheran Seminary Wednesday April 20, 2016 3 p.m. – 8 p.m. Background Anderson Ecumenical Institute recognizes that mass incarceration is a critical issue that all congregations face and seeks to identify promising and proven practices to address the issue within the ministry context and beyond. The institute’s goal is to develop an ecumenical experience that highlights the critical issue of mass incarceration. Strategies that have been deployed by clergy across the country to effectively address the issue will be shared. Model programs identified and lessons learned will be captured and widely disseminated in the Anderson Ecumenical Institute community and AME Church connection.

About our Keynote Speaker
Anderson Ecumenical Institute’s Mass Incarceration Symposium was held on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 pm at Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio. This workshop featured a panel discussion, question and answer session, community resource room, followed by our keynote speaker, Mr. Glenn E. Martin, President and Founder of JustLeadershipUSA. Solutions were the focus of the event in reference to mass incarceration, reentry challenges, and policy reform.
Organizing Committee The organizing committee began planning in January for the symposium. The co-chairs of the committee were Dr. Michael Miller, Associate Dean of Academic Services and Ms. Raye Kimberlin, Marketing & Alumni Relations Manager. Dr. Michael Joseph Brown, Interim President/Academic Dean, Rev. Felicia Bagneris, Presidential Office Coordinator, Ms. Shanee Murrain, former Director of Library Services & Archivist, and Ms. Sonya Thomas, Public Relations/ Research Manager also served on the committee.
Glenn E. Martin is the Founder and President of JustLeadershipUSA (JLUSA), an organization dedicated to cutting the US correctional population in half by 2030. JLUSA empowers people most affected by incarceration to drive policy reform. Glenn is a national leader and criminal justice reform advocate who spent six years in New York State prisons.
