Brooking Vineyards

E

ric Brooking, owner and winemaker of Brooking Vineyards, graduated from San Diego State University with a major in Electrical Engineering. He found his way into the music industry designing equipment such as the Line6 POD for guitars. He soon realized his passion for wine making and started growing grapes in 2010. By 2014 Eric entered 5 wines in the San Diego County Fair, which was open for entries from around the World. He received 5 gold medals, Best of Division, and Winemaker of the Year! Brooking Vineyard's wine is produced in the traditional San Diego County winestyle. Invented by the British in the 1600's, it gained popularity in Portugal, Spain, and California (known as "Angelica"), where the Fransican Friars made this fortified rich, sweet, robust wine. The San Diego County climate is perfect for this style of wine making. Grapes are picked first thing in the morning, sorted, crushed, and developed with their new solar powered winery. Brooking's 2014 Estate Tempranillo Angelica is a rich, robust, traditional wine to be savored after dinner and the most planted varietal in Portugal. Brooking's 2014 Estate Muscat Canelli Angelica is a white Angelica with a slight hint of oak, raisins, and a condensed collection of flavors which balances the natural sweetness to deliver a sophisticated yet pleasurable experience. Sit Back and Sip the History!

he heart of San Diego wine country. I am excited that you have made your way here. With our many attractions, you are sure to have a relaxing and fun time. While in Ramona, we hope you will consider visiting one or more of our 30+ award winning wineries—many set in the scenic hills with their dramatic rock clusters and meandering valleys. When you finish tasting wine, experience a great dining experience at one of our local restaurants. On your way, explore the unique antique shops on Main Street where you’ll find old time candy, trinkets, and souvenirs, and buy your western wear. Or, you can explore life in the 19th century at the Guy B. Woodward Museum, an exhibition of early Western culture. And in January/ February join the Hawk Watch at the Wildlife Research Institute on Saturday mornings. For the more energetic, book a horseback ride through a local ranch, take in a round of golf at Mt. Woodson Golf Club, or go for a hike at one or more of our many pristine trails. It’s always fun to show your friends your picture sitting on the top of Mount Woodson on Potato Chip Rock. And there’s still more—you might be able to discover a camel dairy, a zebra ranch, and a jousting school, or, take a short drive down Highway 78 to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. I am sure that whatever you decide to do when you visit Ramona you will have no difficulty finding friendly, helpful people willing to make your experience memorable. So peruse this guide to help you find and contact all of the places you plan to visit, check out the map of wineries, and be sure to let them know how you found them. I thank you for taking the time to visit. Please return soon, and let your family and friends know about this hidden gem so close to San Diego—Ramona, California, the heart of San Diego wine country.
