Sketches of line designs

Iterations of the logo

The project was expanded from a packaging project to a whole rebrand of Edea. Edea is a skate company that creates man-made skates for figure and roller skaters, and they focus on innovation, Italian style, and modern craftsmanship. The mission was to create a rebrand that fit with the luxurious and expensive products, as well as their values, while maintaining their identity of skating.

Intro page, home/search page, and home pages for k-pop groups

MOBILE VERSION

K-WHO is a website and app that helps new and existing fans obtain more knowledge about K-pop idols and groups in an informational and visual way. The main objective was to create a library of these groups and idols, as the site incorporates the visuals of K-pop, the idols, and the groups themselves, while also incorporates digestible information for the users to learn. This way, the information and visuals about these groups and K-pop in general are all in one place and is accessible for users to sift through.

BRAND IDENTITY

The project was to pick a pre-existing company, rebrand the identity of the company, and create a brand standards for said company. Baxter is a multinational healthcare company that focuses on medical products and therapies that are used throughout hospitals and clinics. As their brand emphasized making a meaningful difference and saving and sustaining lives, the brand’s identity was shaped to a more positive and brighter outlook, using bright and bold colors to make a more positive experience for the users and the patients.

The color system is split up into five care systems that the brand has: hospital (h), nutritional (n), renal (r), critical (c), and surgical (s) care. The color care system is used on the package itself for the individual products, while the round sticker label is used on a huge package box to indicate what care system is being shipped. The rectangular sticker is primarily used for the smaller boxes that include individual products to help indicate the care system, the product number, the quantity, the size, and the type of product that’s inside the package.

FIVE THINGS Publication Design Book Design Photography

PROCESS

The idea of the project was from Tara Anderson’s podcast of “Five Things.” Anderson is the host and producer of the Five Things podcast and it sets on the idea of why we keep certain objects, what part about it defines us, and what memories we experienced from them since we kept them. The mission was to make the bookbinding, the casing of the book, and the book itself special in some way for the person the book is about (Howard Thornton). In this case, his mixed-race identity was the embodiment of this project itself.

THE CASING

The book and casing itself represent Howard’s Japanese culture, incorporating Japanese book-binding and bento box scarves to wrap around the book as if it was a “bento”.

Showcasing the diecut page closed and opened

THE CONTENTS

For this book, special diecuts with folded pages were done to create special openings in the book to showcase Howard’s quotes from a personal interview about his objects. This helped create the relation of the book to videogames, as the diecuts recreate the act of immersion with the book. Mostly the content inside the book calls back to videogames, and these medium help him escape from reality. His thoughts of the content comes from a Westernized culture, as he lived in America for most of his life.

Five Things. Memories through objects.

DIGITAL BRAND STANDARDS MANUAL

A non-profit organization was assigned to a team of student designers to help rebrand or refresh their organization’s identity. For Alley Cat Advocates, the mission was to create a refresh for their brand and their deliverables to gain more attraction and awareness to their organization. As an individual project, I was tasked to create a brand standards manual for the non-profit organization. Because of the hit of the pandemic mid-semester, the brand standards was made into a digital version for convenience to the client.

PROCESS JOURNALS’ SYSTEM

From the Fall 2019 semester, two books were made as a documentation for the process of the projects from two courses: Book Forms and Packaging Design. The main component of these two books was to convey ideas, concepts, and research and see the results from beginning to end. The process was documented by months and five colors that are representative of fall (Research/Ideas, Initial Sketch, Work-in-progress, Refinement, and Final Design).
