A look at features of Rhodolite Garnet Rosy gemstones have always been the most enticing items of adornment and collection. Rhodolite is a popular variety of lesser known gemstone group called Pyrope. It belongs to the family of garnets and was earlier exclusively found in North Carolina. It was first extracted from the Cowee Valley in Macon County. The gemstone derives its name from the Greek word for “Like Rose”. Rhodolite garnet shares its lineage with pink mineral varieties like rhodochrosite and rhodonite. Apart from the natural varieties, there are artificially coloured, inclusion-free garnets that make Rhodolite a reasonably good item of collection.
